Washougal was pressured into dropping its infeild section for more vending space. It was the best place to spectate, and gave the track is only fun sections. The Chuck Sun table-top, catcher's mit, leaches lump, and the Huffman five were l removed. The AMA or whomever strong armed them into to making changes for one, weekend a year that affect us NWerners at every other race during the year. I wish they would have held heir gound like glen helen and said fuck off.

Track looks fun to ride, but damn it needs some hills... Freestone is far and away the worst national on tv cause it is just flat... and the corners are all big sweepers so there's no block passing...

Why is it that all tracks have these long ass corners... they end up way flat and fast and shit...

Hairpins and Hills people!!!!

The freakin sweeper is the most overused corner in motocross these days...

What happened to multiple 2 feet deep ruts headed into a sharp hairpin where the tech riders won out and the ballsy guys could blast it round the outside...

You wanna get some passing, change the corners from the current dirt version of road race tracks... They won't be apexing the freakin things and flat tracking if the corner was tight and rough!!!

MX needs some 90s track layouts with deep tilling, hairpins, hills and bumps... slow the fuckers down, make it about the riders and stop giving them opportunities to hit their head at 70-80mph

I think I've seen enough of deep ruts and tight technical stuff the last couple of weeks. I'll take a healthy dose of WFO with my MX! Besides a good MX track has it all... kinda like the nice little layout we have here in the mitten we fondly refer to as ... REDDDDDDDDDDDD BUDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Washougal was never "strong-armed" into getting rid of their infield section for vending. That''s ridiculous. But the Chuck Sun tabletop needed changed or moved because guys could have landed in the infield -- 60s were clearing it. It was a jump that was a big deal when Sun was around in '80 and '81, and but in the last ten years it was obsolete. So Washougal changed it, at the recommendation of whoever was at AMA Pro Racing back then, not MX Sports.

Not sure why we're getting blamed now for stuff that happened long before 2009, which was our first year managing the series.

It is MX Sports' fault for the oil spill in the gulf, and the high gas prices!!! Since Obama is "above" being blamed for anything, MX Sports is the new "George Bush".... Wink

Well there you go, everything that was questioned and raised has pretty much come true.
As a transplanted Euro who think's US Mx is Still the best in the world I am truly saddened that as a fan we lose out.
If you work in the Mx industry It would appear as long as the cow's still chewing cud and crapping out Casino Dollars who care's ?.
Lesson learned moving on,
Good luck to Pala you are a fantastic facility, However location wise and terrain ?.
As I said before unless your paid to be there the biggest loser here is undoubtedly the family of Mx fans who will choose to either attend, go riding or maybe just head to the beach.
It's a sad day for Mx, After the last 4 months of bullshit tracks, rider injuries and general mediocrity, We can look forward to more of the same,
just outdoors.
jb.
Good points especially w/regard to this years SX season. Great facility does not guarantee great track. Remains to be seen, but most likely will have all the necessary accoutrements,(think Luongo/FIM) but a super smooth, no elevation, outdoor SX. The series already has suspect tracks like this in TX and Colorado. It is unfortunate that the Outdoors is in danger of the same level of mediocrity that SX rolled out this year. We can only hope!

Pala Raceway Joins the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross
Championship Schedule and National Promoters Group
Facility Will Host Series Finale in 2010

MORGANTOWN, W.V. (May 3, 2010) - MX Sports Pro Racing, in conjunction Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports, are pleased to announce that Pala Raceway, located in Southern California, will join the prestigious Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship and will serve as the season finale for the 2010 season.

Pala Raceway is one of the newest motocross playgrounds in Southern California. Based just outside the sport's hotbed in Murrieta and Temecula, Pala is focused on providing the best riding facility possible to the thousands of motocross riders in the region. Whether young or old, a novice or a veteran, Pala Raceway offers a variety of tracks for all riders with the mission of eventually becoming the motocross Mecca of California.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Pala Raceway to the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship schedule," said MX Sports Vice President Davey Coombs. "Ryan Ouellette, in conjunction with The Pala Band of Mission Indians, has built an incredible venue for motocross competition. They have placed a strong emphasis on making their track a truly world class facility, and thus, we felt it was the ideal location to host the 2010 season finale."

Since opening its gates to the motocross community, Pala has quickly become one of the most popular sites for all riders, including the same pro competitors that will hit the track in just four months. Recently, it was selected as the site of the new DC Shoes Motocross Training Facility.

"We are very proud to have been selected to host a round of this prestigious series" said Ryan Ouellette of Pala. "We fully expect to pull out all the stops on this event and have already assembled a strong team to help us build out the facility, including former racer Ryan Hughes, who has a tremendous amount of global racing experience. It is our goal to turn this event into a rich Southern California motocross tradition for years to come."

"The NPG is pleased to welcome Pala Raceway as our newest member," added RedBud Motocross' Amy Ritchie, of the National Promoters Group (NPG). "Not only is Pala a first class destination with the resort and casino, but it is also headed up by real motocross enthusiasts, all of whom have a deep passion for the sport. These guys are going to fit right in, and I can't wait to see the facility and the event."

The 12th and final round of the season will mark the series' triumphant return to the heart of motocross country and will allow the diehard fans in Southern California the coveted opportunity to watch a pair of champions be crowned for the first time since 2007.

Guys we best hold judgement until after Sept.11th. We don't want to rush into things to fast like we did the last Sept. 11th issue. It could turn out to be the best new thing in Decades for the Business of Motocross. Sorry but at this level now its not a sport any longer. They have a lot of work to do so give them time. Good Luck Pala.

The place is still being built up and now they will probably fast track some of the work. The national track has not even been built and I heard part of the track is over the hill off the main track in the back. Just heard

However - the problem is going to be getting to the track. That place is already backed up on the weekends due to the casino traffic. There are three casinos in the area and there are only 2 two-lane roads that lead to the track. It is pretty bumper to bumper with all sorts of stuff going during weekends. If you think getting in and out of Glen Helen is a pain - this place is going to be hell. I bet they will end up running a bus line to get people in and out - if not - it is going to take hours to get in and out. The rooms down there in the casinos are also up near $200 per night on the weekends

But the race should be good -
the two lane road in and out and Interstate 15 being the only real freeway to get you to highway 76 is my only concern that may stop me from attending.

I hope the guys at PALA come up with a plan to get people in and out in a reasonable time frame.

Maybe we are just spoiled because access to Carlsbad wasn't much better than what we are looking at with this PALA race and Saddleback was one lane in and out for about 7 miles to the freeway.

For the sake of PALA and MX Sports I hope the outdoor championship is still undecided come Sept. 10th.

good luck to all the parties involved

I wish we had a search feature, didn't DC say it was never happening. Not, in discussion, potential or an option but it was not happening.

The essence of a lie is not the words you use but the message you convey.

That said Pala is a great place and aside from it being BFE - they have the facilities to do it up.

Possible. I had just heard that Pala was going to be the location for the Nationals just before all this nonsense. Including Jody's Box saying No, nope, nope, nope like that goofy vulture from Bugs Bunny. Then DC came on here with the same song then all of a sudden.

SURPRISE!

Just curious why even come on to Vital to try and control the spin when probably all along it was heading there minus a signature.

Congratulations from all sides. I hope there are some good TV deals this year so we can follow all the events.

It was days before this whole thread where I had heard it from two reliable sources that Pala was the location. In fact that entire thread is asking for confirmation of the Pala rumors. What would precipitate a rumor in this reference, An ounce of truth?

I still think the communication here is skewed. Minus the ink on paper I am going to conclude that this deal was done. And because there was a lot of butt hurt everyone was playing their cards close to their chest.

Tiki, you are better than that. He never said Pala was out. He said they were looking at various options. If there was a deal with Pala, I doubt they would have waited a month to move on it.

Now, were they talking with all those location to work out a suitable deal? Sounds like yes. It's a business that's fluid. For DC to share as much as he does about who he's talking to is a bit surprising actually.

As far as the rumor having a grain of truth to it? Do you think someone from one of the other locations could have said exactly the same thing? DC was here!!! He wants to put an MX in Atlanta! blah, blah, blah.

I think you are judging this a bit harshly and unfairly.

I said it was the AMA that "stong armed" them, and that is what it was made to sound like to us locals. And this was three years ago before MX sports took over.

I dont really get why a sixties ability to jump it would have anything to do with removing the jump? Arn't there singles at just about every track? Couldn't the problem of it being too small be fixed by making it wider, adding dirt to make it longer, moving fances back, or any combination of the three? Sorry, DC but I'm going to chalk that up as a weak argument.

Who cares. For me. driving from Sacramento to Pala is no different than driving to Glen Helen. C'mon guys, Glen Helen is not even that good of a track and if they would rather run a GP, then go for it. Not like Glen Helen is a staple in the sport that has been around forever like Hangtown or Unadilla. Majority of the riders and fans can't stand that track anyway. Good for DC for finding you SoCal boys another "local" track to bring the event to. If you don't want it, NorCal will take it!

1st post and you nail it. Southern CA gets a new track for their National plus a GP at their old track. What is there to complain about???

Motodrew, if I ran Washougal, I would build a new Chuck Sun Tabletop. The old one did not evolve in size or difficulty with the equipment, which is why I brought up the fact that sixties were jumping it at the end. Same thing happened to the infield tabletop at Loretta Lynn's: the athletes and the equipment just outgrew it.

But I don't run it, and I never had a say in it removing anything from their track. It's Ralph Huffman's place, and I promise I will suggest he consider putting something like that back in the track. This year is Washougal's 30th Anniversary on the AMA circuit (and 40th in existence) so it's the "retro" race. What a better way to celebrate Washougal's heritage than to put a Chuck Sun jump back in?

But it has to be different than the last one, because a modern 450 might land down on the banks of the Columbia River!

Hmmmmm??? Now just where did I hear Pala was going to be getting the Glen Helen race??? Didn't we already know it was Pala, back in March???

I had a nice conversation with someone closely related to Glen Helen, and now know both sides.. I will say Glen Helen sounded bummed about the whole thing, but they have moved on and I will as well.

DC can come on here and spin it whichever way he wants. Trying to play it off as Glen Helens the only one at fault though is really counter productive.. Saying he has "moved on" from the Glen Helen National, shows a lack of respect for the track and the fans.

Im with Trip on this one. It wasnt exactly hidden that Pala was going to be the home of the next National before this whole debacle. You guys that think it isn't, well you better get your jackets and boots because a blizzard of snow is coming your way.
