One bike for Enduro/Offroad AND MX?

Curious as to what would be your pick if you could only have one bike for both offroad and MX?

I appreciate they are fundamentally different disciplines - essentially I intend to race offroad but will likely be practicing as local MX tracks quite a bit

Initially I looked at the KTMs but the lack of linkage possibly doesn't make them ideal for MX?

Ktm 350 xc.

”motocross bike” with 18” rear wheel, large tank and enduro gearbox. The best happy medium you can buy i would say.

Hmmm... I don't think we get the XC-F in the UK unfortunately

100% this ^^^^^^

I have a 21' Beta 300RX and absolutely love it.  I ride moto, desert, hard enduro, GP, XC, and I've raced it at endurance night racing events.  Most fun I've in dirt bike gear in a long time!!  I like the Betas so much I just got the 24' 450RX about 2 months ago now.  I still ride my 300 more than the 450 though!

Well, 2T or 4T?

I lean 2T for where I ride and picked up a '17 300XC; it's like the Swiss Army Knife of offroad. I've had it since '18 and don't plan to turn it loose. It's like a modern KDX - it just does everything well (just at a higher level than the KDX right out of the box).

I haven't been interested in getting a newer one because: I've got it dialed for me, it's carbureted and I don't feel like risking getting one of the injected lemons. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

FWIW, I've got a shop full to choose from and it's hard to think of one that can do everything as well as the XC, but the 125s always beckon with their fun factor!Woohoo

2024 Beta 300 RX.  The last of the do all Swiss Army knife Betas, big tank, 6 speed.  The 25’s have smaller tanks, 5 speed more moto ish.

So glad I bought a 24.  I’ll never sell it.

2020-2024 Yamaha WR250f with the GYTR Competition ECU. Remove the air box snorkel, pea shooter muffler insert and the throttle limit screw and you basically have a YZ250fx with a heavier flywheel, and a headlight! Great KYB suspension, fast as hell (but really good in the tight stuff) and Yamaha reliability.

The Beta 390 is a great bike for all three you mentioned.

Theres no way i could take my 24 EC 300 on to a track stock. At 175 pounds the suspension is WAY to soft for a track. XC/HS/Enduro the valving and spring rate is absolutely perfect and I don't plan on a revalve. Some of yall have some nuts sending these TEs/XCW/ECs on a track.

My absolute favorite do it all bike was a CRF 450x set up for Worcs. There’s always gonna be trade-offs, trying to satisfy that broad of a range, but it was only ever really a disadvantage on slow, tight single track type stuff.

My KX450 was also great but didn’t have a hydraulic clutch and would overheat too easy in really tight stuff. They also needed a heavier flywheel and/or clutch basket to keep from stalling

I got the wr 250f 2020 exactly for this reason

The suspension is quite stiff and with the ECU being tunable for the occasion gives plenty of poke and suits whatever the terrain

Range is around 80 miles and no engine rebuilds every 5mins

KTM 300 XC has linkage. I love my '19 model.

For me it is a YZ250FX if you are doing gnarlier GNCC type stuff or YZ450FX if desert. The reviews seem to show this is the YZFX sweet spot. And the power tuner makes setting the power character easy.

I sought this answer for many years before ultimately deciding there just isn't one, especially if you ride moto at a fairly high level.  All the XC bikes are just too heavy and soft for hard moto and the moto bikes beat you up on trails, have too-small tanks, overheat and tires are always a problem. I ended up with a husky FC350 for moto and a YZ250X 2-stroke for everything else. I'm finally at peace.

The YZ250x (or Fantic) two stroke would be my choice.
I've ridden on MX tracks with a Sherco SE 250 Factory. With a few clicks on the kyb suspensions, it works decently.

I'll second the YZ250FX. Great all around bike and very comfortable in the woods and on the track. You could keep an extra 19" rear wheel for track days and have maps setup for each situation.  If I needed a single do it all bike it would be at the top of the list.

With the new spring forks that are stock on the new KTM/Hus off road bike it sounds intriguing .

Suspension will be the biggest issue and it might be a bit soft for serious MX riding though.

Hard to beat a good old YZ250 with an 18” rear, that’s been my setup for moto and off-road for almost 10 years now and it’s been a solid setup.  Really any 250 two stroke would be a great choice, to me it’s the most versatile motor type.

Beta 200 for off road and a TM 125 for the track.

You can ask your dealer to order one for you.

I like the Yamaha fx bikes because they put a real tractor 1st in them. The Austrian bikes you gotta go xcw before you get the lower ratio gears, I believe the xc's are the mx trans with some models getting a 6th gear. Honda and Kawasaki cross country bikes have the mx trans. With the granny gear you can crawl out of almost anything without burning the clutch when it gets nasty. Then the next day you can rip around a mx track, it's really the type of bike most people should buy.
