Southwick is right after the break, this is where things getting interesting with the top 4 in points if they stay within a similar points margin after this weekend.
Quick break down of last year's Southwick results:
(Hymas did not race, could be a potentially good result with his skill set)
TV16 went 1-3 for the OA Win
HD38 went 4-10 for 6th OA
Kitchen went 5-9 for 8th OA
This could potentially be the worst track for Deegan based off results. Does the training at the sandbox with Roczen in FL help?
Same scenario for the Chef as above.
Shimoda showed up for summer with a 6-1 for 3rd OA
Hymas could be the biggest spoiler and snipe another win..
It's gonna be a dog fight all summer in the 250 class, may the best racer win
For the past 40 yrs I can remember Southwick being a pivitol event in the AMA National series. Wether you like or hate sand, the series could be won or lost there. The chance of a DNF from mechanical failure was very high. The asphalt gate pad affected the start, the heat and humidity is usually high, and the chance of thunderstorms is almost a guarantee. Always some local threw a wrench in the works too. Southwick often determines the outcome of the season, despite the fact that championships are won in August.
Which locals will break into the top 10 out of no where?
Even if its nothing near a real deep sand track that you find in Holland or Belgium i still think Vialle will have the upper hand. Maybe battle with Hymas half the moto and then pull away.
I think Haiden will end up in 3rd. He will probably run out of steam after blasted every berm out there but still finnish ahead of Kitchen and Shimoda.
Do we have some data to go off of that says Hymas is good in the sand?
Checked the vault, doesn't look like he's ever raced Southwick.
Southern Idaho where he grew up is mostly blue groove hard pack, there is sand to be found at off road riding areas but I don't know of any sand moto tracks.

Deegan is fit but in my opinion he was riding more like Barcia and needs to be more like Tomac if he wants to win at Southwick. I’ll give him credit, his riding is solid this year. He isn’t plowing every corner when he hangs it out like he did last year.
I guess because he rides in FL? But then again it seems like 90% of the factory guys do.
I know he raced some NGPC and WORCS stuff; not sure if any of those had real sand though.
Off topic a bit but can anyone here whose ridden southwick tell me how hard it is for a beginner? They have open practice Saturday, but I’ve never ridden sand before. The only tracks I’ve ridden are mx101 and Wareham. I’ve been to a dozen nationals there, but have always wanted to ride it.
Local talent isn’t what it once was. Look for Joe Tait to likely be the fastest. He has raced a bunch of nationals and I don’t think (?) has cracked too 20 - yet. But he is riding really well!
Plenty of beginner/C guys out there on a regular weekend practice. Go for it.
Championship starts at southwick.
It's much harder to ride than a normal track like 101 or 508 where you can rest a bit
Chris Canning has cracked the top ten the last couple years...
Canning has Southwick dialed. I think he's married to Keith Johnson's daughter. I don't know if he's racing. James Harrington 777 could maybe get top 20 in the 450 class. No real local standouts right now
I think Canning messed up his wrist on Sunday at the Jday race.
Definitely go for it!! Canning teaches a class on Wednesday nights from 4-7 if you wanna go that route. A couple buddy’s and me did it last week was a good time.
I don’t see southwick on his website. Just 508 and bro mx.
The weekly camps 4-7 are Diamond mx on Mondays and the Wick on Wednesday. Check out there IG.
Pit Row
Can't beat a nice practice day at the wick
Go for it. It’s only tricky if it rains a lot the day before, then it’s rutty and sticky. Otherwise riding sand is super fun and it’s not so deep there that you won’t have fun. Plus falling in the sand doesn’t hurt, as bad.
Man, I remember Southwick being a locals come out to play and kick ass, sure hope at least one cracks the top 10.
No data more than a pretty damn good riding style for good results in the sand and training with two guys that grew up training at Lommel.
Hymas ride the bike exactly how you should ride on a sand track, i hope i don’t jinx him now.

These are results from a few WORCS races 3 years ago, 2 of them are PRETTY sandy if you've ever been to either Havasu or Mesquite. I'd say Hymas rides the sand decently, and has probably refined his technique since he's been training with the Lawrence Bros.
Deegan wins all 4 motos and the fan club starts a riot.
I was thinking the exact same thing. He has perfect technique for sand. Should be interesting to see how it pans out. Jett is the new boss at Southwick so he's got a good yardstick to go off with him
He was talking about sand riding on pulp. Said that's what he grew up riding.
It isn't easy but it's definitely doable, most of it is gonna be pretty low speed until you really get the hang of it so mistake won't be too bad.
Just be ready to pick your bike up a lot so hydrate for the extra exertion, you'll go home with sandy soil in everything but you'll have fun.
Trick to sand is keeping speed WFO with a smooth flow fast enough to stay up on top of the sand. Slower and you sink in and bobble till you can get up on top again. Falling is usually a soft landing.
You are on the gas more than letting off.
riding in sand is a lot like riding in mud.
This right here. It wasn't sand, but last night they ripped the track I was riding really deep. A couple guys commented it felt like we were riding mud. You have to stay on the gas
Canning just posted a crash the other day, I do not believe he will be lining up. Dislocated wrist and some broken bones. Crash is on his IG and it is pretty gnarly. Smokes a tree
