Obviously Pastrana did it. Anyone remember Reed doing it mid season while carrying the #1 plate? I love when top guys venture out of their specialty and still bang it out. Like RC DOMINATING step up at the X games.

No ones listed the 1st guy to do it…

And, yes, he’s a pro…

Definitely ruined his mx career. He was right there with RV and Dunge in 2010 sx,  part of the new blood.  His talent is off the charts. Who knows how great he could have been. He made the most of it and pivoted his career into other avenues. His youtube channel is great

I must be getting old.

That step up stuff RC was doing was almost too hard to watch...just nuts !!!

33ft is just over 10 meters.  When I was a  kid I was too scared to jump off the 10 meter diving tower at the local pool...and there was water to land in.

I completely forgot about his Xgames stuff.

Totally forgot it ever happened myself. I have to say though as impressive as it was it's also damn impressive that Renner was just a foot off on a bike that was clearly not as fast as RCs factory Suzuki

the "top" pro rules a lot of the people out.

not top pro

Carey Hart, Mike Metzger, Kenny Bartram, Ronnie Renner, Mad Mike - all raced pro mx/sx

did Mike Jones do one? I didn't follow freestyle closely, but he went years on the circuit and did everything else but just seemed like that was his nemesis

Didn't Stew do a sick whip that looked like a backflip from the photo angle?

Edit: not an actual backflip though.

I don't think so.  He tried and failed at a barrel roll one year, crashed hard.

Pastrana, Reed and H.Deegan are the only AMA #1 plate holders to accomplish the flip

To a rider who grows up to be better, faster, and more in control its just un-natural. Who, in their right mind, would throw a motorcycle upside down? All the time we are NOT crashing. I did cry a little watching Metzger at X games ...

Xgames 2009 best whip contest. He was throwing some sick whips for sure! I’m thinking Josh Grant might have been there that year as well

I believe that’s right, but Deegan did it before he was a pro. Considering Roger’s thoughts on Pastrana’s freestyle riding, it’s incredible that Reedy also did it while at Suzuki, and while in a title fight in the premier class. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall when that conversation went down.

Dang, y’all might be right, can’t find any evidence that he actually landed one

Jarryd McNeil. Most probably forget he raced Washougal a few years ago.

Mike Metzger!

Carey Hart was the first to do it in a comp. He didn't ride away from it so some don't count it as a backflip but he still did it. image-20240608073306-1
