  Jason on drums.

Jason on drums.

For any Led Zep fan, I'd highly recommend catching a show by JBLZE (Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Experience).  For all of us that missed the 70s it's the closest thing we'll get to seeing them live, and they really do the music justice.

Has everybody watched the 2007 "02" Reunion DVD titled Celebration day? Jason plays drums with the 3 original Zeppelin members. If you're a Led Zeppelin fan it's an amazing concert and Jason's drumming is on point!

When John was on tour the butler would bring Jason to the schoolboy races in the Rolls if memory serves me.

John sponsored a big two day schoolboy meeting at Hawkstone Park back in the ‘80’s and gave each class winner ( 6 classes ) a brand new RM.

I always thought it was cool that after the John Bonham’s death, the rest of the band said they could never be Led Zeppelin again. That is, until Jason joined them for the reunion a couple of decades later.
Photo just so there’s some bike content.

Raced against him a bunch as a kid, his dad was the equivalent of Dave Grohl back in the day , and he just rocked up with a bike on a trailer and wellies on and got on with it.

He was just another moto-dad.

Jason is on a few of our FB groups, still a decent guy, and a proper moto head.

Not trying to derail,  but on what planet is Dave Grohl equivalent to John Bonham?!?

Anyway, Jason always seemed like a damn good dude in interviews.

He was the drummer of the biggest band on the planet at that time.

Was that too hard for you to work out on your own?

1977(?) schoolboy mx in Britain. That’s Jason Bonham next to the bike, scratching his head. His dad, John, in the red sweater.

John died in ‘80 while they were working on an album, so most likely ‘79.

Just watched the new movie Becoming Led Zepplin. Was very good. There was quite a bit of footage from early concerts/studio work.

The movie covers their childhood/growing up and then through the first two albums.

Thanks for that little review, Kevin852 !

My local little family run Cinema - I go to that as much as I can, instead of the bloody multiplex across the river from me - has it on next week, so I'll get up there to see it.

Saw the almighty Zeppelin twice in the '70s. Once in Cleveland and once in Pittsburgh. They truly were THAT good. Saw Skynrd at least 3 times, they weren't too shabby either. 😉

Jason hooked me and a pal up at a Sammy Hagar and the Circle gig in 2019. Watched from side stage, just by the guitar tech. Very cool.

My friend had no idea I’d set this up so it was a last minute surprise for him.

Jason is a good guy.

Let me know what you think! And good on you supporting the small guy. We have a drive-thru about 30 min from my house in Barstow that is small and family ran. Try to support them as much as possible as it would be a shame to see it go away.

I am jealous. I was born in 1967, so just a little too late to see them live. But grew up listening to them and they are in my top 5 for sure.

Just got back from a Mid day showing of it.

I, at the age of 65, was probably the Youngest person in the Audience.

The Cinema was packed!

***The little Cinema  (in Glenbrook, NSW ) - I've been going to it since the 70s, when I had to go there, or into the Big City to see movies. I go there often (twice, so far this week), buy my tickets online, after finding out that pretty much Every cent of the charges, go to Them - the Cinema. It's cheaper to buy at the counter, and, I could get a 'loyalty membership', that would make it cheaper again, but I'm happy to pay $16, to have Them get as much money as possible from me. They do, at times, struggle to remain open. My  GF, "She Who Must Be Obeyed" after working as a Concert Venue / Multiplex Cinema Manageress for many years, got out of the Big Cinema Circus, and, up 'til recently, worked there part time. I'm glad she doesn't now, as it was a bit hard not revealing our relationship, in front of her fellow workers, but she didn't want that known. I must be an Embarrassment, I guess .... *

The Movie - Bloody Brilliant!

I had little idea of both John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page's already  burgeoning  / successful careers as session Musos and Producers and Arrangers. They played on so many other Musicians Tracks / Records, like Lulu, Shirley Bassey, The Stones and on and on. And, to hear Robert Plant talking about him being pretty much homeless, living out of a brown suitcase, when the band - as a 'new' Yardbirds - was starting, was interesting.

The use of a rare (few?) audio interviews with John Bonham was great . Near the end, when he was talking about his fellow band members, with much affection, and they listening  to it, was quite touching. When Jimmy - or was it JPJ or RP? - said, ''do you think we can do better than Forty Pounds a week", to get John Bonham from another bands clutches,, well, that was wonderful!

As an aside, one of my musical Heroes (yes, I'm weird) - Animal, from the Muppets - well it's said he's based a fair bit on Keith Moon, but I reckon, the nicer / more talented side of The Crazed Muppet, might be based on JB.

The generosity  / apparent Love of the band members towards each other was wonderful to see - so many Musical partnerships are full of acrimony / hatred.

And, very early on to see the quiet joy of Jimmy Page seeing an early TV performance of him and a fellow student, who taught him some chords / helped him to first make real use of his Guitar, performing on TV, a song; "Mumma Don't Want No Skiffle Played Here" ( I think that's what it was called) was great . A short bit, but it looks like he may never have seen it.

One section, where Led Zep played to an Audience  of Very Normal, late 60s People - Little Kids, with their fingers in their ears, Mums with tiny little Kids with a WTF look on their faces, and a wide variety of 'Non Rock' types, was just Classic.

I found I wanted more of the Interviews  / stories, than when they played a few songs fully through - hell, I've listened to those for decades, and have them all at Home to listen to, any time. The Stories were The Thing.

I really, Really hope that there is another / more of this  - a Series of Movies, that go onwards from this, as it basically only got through to Led Zep 2. There's So Much More to come, in their story.

I Loved it!

Oh, and you saw a few pics / bits of video with Jason, as a little tacker, in the film!

I agree with all that you said.

Same thing in my theater in regards to age. I am 57 and younger than most in there. But there were to women sitting next to me who were mid 20's and they were rocking out. It was awesome to see.

The thing that struck me maybe the greatest was how much JPJ is NOT a rock star. Page and Plant are/were rock stars. It is almost like JPJ become part of the greatest rock band on accident, like he was supposed to be the accountant or something haha He is very introspective and just kind of "go with the flow" kind of guy it seems.

And that concert they did in Denmark with the kids plugging their ears and the moms with the "karen faces" was too funny.

Kevin852 :

"like he was supposed to be the accountant or something"

Hey, that's what Plant was 'supposed' to be - he was studying to get his 'articles' in accountancy, on his Dad's advice !

Now that, surprised me.

But yes JPJ  seemed like he could have done Anything.

And, same as Page was so much more than 'just the guitarist'.

His making sure He / They 'owned' their Recordings, before signing for any Label, well, there's a Very canny mind! How often do we see how f**ked over by contracts the vast majority of  Muso's are?

I loved how their interviews were separate, I think though, sitting in the same Grand Room, in the same Ornate chair.

I learned so much about them all, that I had No Idea about.

And, it was such a good natured thing, with much appreciation and love for  each other, and Music.

I really hope I'm right in thinking that there is more of these interviews / this documentary on Led Zep, to come.

I far from 'worship' them / their Music - well, any Muso's, but it's been a part of my life, since I was a very little blighter, what with my Mum always having all sorts of records 'turning', in the 60s.

Somewhere I have a pic of John Bonham giving Brad Lackey one of his good records for giving Jason some riding tips as a kid.

Brad and I were at A1 years ago and Brad introed me to Jason in the Knothole Club. Pretty cool!
