Alpinestars Getting into Streetwear - Opinions?

So it looks like Alpinestars is going to drop their first release of their "RSRV" clothing tomorrow (6.6.24). It appears to be a limited drop of a luxury/performance streetwear line but accommodating motorsport elements into it (with a price tag to match).

What are your thoughts?

One part of me thinks it's a ridiculous money grab but another part of me thinks it's cool and unique. I could also see celebrities wearing it which would be cool to see since the world is only used to "mainstream" sports and their associated companies. For example, whenever I see someone wearing something with a Nike or Adidas logo, I automatically assume they are into some kind of traditional sport. But whenever I see someone wearing something with an "Alpinestars" logo, I assume they are into some form of motorsport (most likely motorcycles). Which is another reason why I'm an Astars fanboy (but that's another topic). In my opinion, the Alpinestars brand and logo is becoming the "de facto" brand for SX, MX, and MotoGP. So, mainstream brand exposure is beneficial in my opinion. I want the whole world to know that our small world of motorsports exist and our niche sport is awesome and deserves the praise and respect that mainstream sports do.

This has already been a thing for a while. I think around a year. Multiple celebrities have worn Astars stuff, Drake is one that comes to mind as having worn it recently.

Zero chance I'm paying anywhere near that for clothes but the hat with the recycled piece of race suit is a cool idea.

Everything I’ve gotten from them has looked amazing, and worn out incredibly too fast. Boots in 25 hours, pants torn at the seam( no crashes) in 2 rides, multiple pairs.

i won’t spend my money with them any longer and they’re one of the best marketed and best looking stuff out there!

People who spend that and more on designer, only wear it a couple of times anyway.

Man, I tried not to whine about this... But...

Lame as fuck.

Sell out crap for idiots and associating with scum bag companies too.

The knock-off logos are an absolute piss take given that NGK and Bel Ray are still going and still supporting motorsport themselves. That's the icing on the cake.

Haha I remember that stuff showing up in places like Sorts Direct... Horrendous.

However cool the McGrath, Pastrana, Windham etc No Fear days were, I was glad to see the back of them after that.

Alpinestars channeling their inner PT Barnum…..

They’ll probably make some good money on it, though. But I have to admit that if I ran into anyone wearing those things shown, I’d subconsciously think that they were just a bit dumber than average.

Just one step behind Fox and Oakley.  As an old guy, it pains me to see core moto companies branching out to the m-asses, but it is hard to blame them when their brands have grown that direction and no doubt they will profit.  It just comes at an expense for guys like me that would rather support a company sticking to their roots, but obviously at this point when they go mainstream at this scale, guys like me are the minority of their target demographic.

Alpinestars has been going this direction for quite a while, none of this surprises me.

That’s the thing that ruins the jacket, I think. If the jacket didn’t have those patches, it would actually be a pretty cool looking item. Wouldn’t fit me, but for the right size it wouldn’t be bad at all. The fake logos turn it into something that looks like it belongs at Walmart, but the price is for a dozen Walmart units.

For anybody who has not clicked on the link yet, the most affordable item is a $285 t-shirt.

Yeah that's fair 👍

The price and style is fair enough, that's subjective, I wouldn't pay it/wear it but that no big deal, each to their own.

The fake/altered logos of current brands is just unacceptable, in my opinion of course, which doesn't mean shit.

I think these clothes are geared more toward the F1 crowd. They didnt take a look at the Millville National and say these are our people.

If you saw Alpinestars sales numbers and how low they actually are, you would be shocked.  They need every penny that they can get their hands on.

It’s kind of a double edge sword. On one hand, moto companies tapping new markets makes them more money to (hopefully) invest in developing moto gear. On the other hand, it dilutes the brand and can sometimes serve as a distraction from core product lines. I think it comes down to company management.

That said, alpinestars has been at the mall for years and their products have been disappointing for just as long. There hasn’t been a single product of theirs that I’ve thought was on par with an equivalent product made by a more focused company. I’ve purchased street bike gloves and jackets, moto boots (tech 10s and 7s) and various odds and ends from them over the last 15 years. They’ve always been expensive and fallen short of similar products made by focused motorcycle brands.

Wow, came back to quite a bit of hate in this thread. It might not be the moto scene’s cup of tea but, this is just the way fashion is trending. High dollar, limited drop items. You can’t really blame the company for trying to innovate, cross barriers, and succeed in more places than just motorsports. There absolutely is a market for stuff like this, they’d be fools not to take advantage of that.

Yeah I don't think the average vital mx user is necessarily the customer they are going after. I do find it funny that that the same guys saying a limited run shirt is too expensive will pay $350 for some limited drop alpinestars gear which if were being honest has a crazy high profit margin as well.

The crashed Moto GP shoulder protector hat is actually pretty cool you have to admit.

when you think street wear fashion, it has always been linked to the motorcycle industry.  Harley Davidson has been doing street wear collaborations for over 100 years, and has been a major part of their business model.

Ironically I wore a black Alpinestars logo T shirt when I went to buy a truck at a Chevy dealership last Saturday.

2 people my salesman and the back room finance guy both recognized the logo and mentioned Alpinestars to me.

Alpinestars is a lot bigger than just the MX industry. Automotive is HUGE.

Way, way, waaaaaaaaaaay too expensive. Way too expensive. You could cut those prices in half and they'd still be way, way, way, way too expensive. If I won the lottery I'd be buying a different colored supercar for each day of the week and still be saying that's too expensive for the product they are selling. it makes me want to stop wearing the Alpinestars stuff I already own just out of spite. Alpinestars is out of their ever-loving, cocaine-addled minds if they think that's the market value for a t-shirt with compression sleeves sewn into it. The dudes at Supreme are looking at Alpinestars and saying, "Bruh! That's expensive!"

The hat with the race-worn crash pucks is a cool idea. I'd be willing to pay way, way too much for that hat, but way, way too much is still about $240 less than that.

This. I wonder if they think Bel-Ray is dead or something?
