I’m just here to say this -

I have not watched the video, I haven’t read the court docs, I have no intimate knowledge of the situation in question…..

It’s been 7-8 years since I’ve spoke with Rich, but - Rich Taylor and his family have always been some of the kindest & most genuine people you could hope to be meet.

He has spent years in the sport as a legend and so far as I know it this is the first negative thing I’ve seen come about with his name attached.

I don’t know any of the details, I don’t know anyone’s perspective, all I know is there are a ton of people that have foregone the pitch forks and are going straight to the gallows with his name, his family and his business.

Keep in mind the above is NOT to disparage LACR. I love LACR. Jack and the entire LACR team are incredible and would give you the shirt off their back…..

I just am holding my opinion until I (who is NOT a lawyer) get some actual facts.

Say what you will about Cooksey,  It could be Dan Rather and Barbara Walter’s for that matter, you do not drag anyone through the mud and cause harm to their name AND business until your damn sure the story is straight.

From what I can gather from the GoFund me page, it looks a 50 rider was practicing with big bikes, crashed and got ran over. The family is blaming the track and the flagger.

Several times I was practicing on the big track and I see 50cc putting around, so I went I tried to talk to the parents and they very rudely cus me out .  People think the track is like a ride at Disneyland.  You buy a ticket and you can go on any attraction you want! , people don’t realize just how dangerous this sport is.

As a father of a kid who used to race on a 50, that one ultimately comes down to the parents. In no instance is it ok for a 50 to be on the track with big bikes. If they don't separate big bikes from little bikes, it's then on the parents to load up and leave.  Thr biggest bike I ever let my kid ride against was with 85s. Even that was even questionable but it was kids he was at the track with frequently knew he was out there with them and looked out for him. Sucks to have to go home when your kids want to ride but it's unsafe for the kid as well as every other rider on the track. I sure hope tgr kid recovers well and this incident doesn't ruin the sport for him!

I wrecked at a hare scramble last fall and broke my arm and dislocated my shoulder. No surgery, but had an ER visit to reset the shoulder and two months worth of PT. My wife is still getting letters/emails from our insurance wanting more details about my wreck. I'm guessing they are digging to see if we'll provide more information for them to attempt to sue the promoter and/or land owner. I'm not going to do any of that, but I could see the Taylor family having nothing to do with the lawsuit. Maybe they are 100% behind it IDK just giving another perspective. But, I can't see him shitting on a track and risking his business/name for a couple hundred grand.

I've received those letters on two different occasions. I lied the first time to protect the small business where I got hurt by telling them it happened at home (broke my ankle goofing with the kids at a trampoline park). The second time I simply ignored the letters. It worked out for me OK as all this was many many years ago, but I don't recommend doing either...in hindsight I'm sure lying was probably insurance fraud even if it was with noble intentions and I've heard that ignoring the letters can lead to policy cancellation. It sucks how the system works.

Ultimately, your safety is your own responsibility. The riders can choose not to race if they don't feel safe, and it was the rider whose mistake caused him to crash.

A court of law is going to listen to testimony from riders, however. If they feel that the particular section of track was unusually hazardous, it could be a big problem for LACR.

Setting aside the lawsuit, did he actually race to qualify his son?

It sounds like it would have stuck out.  ML was saying that his kid was 13 at the time and Rich was about 200 pounds  . And that it was not an LL qualifier at LACR.

There was a Road to Mammoth race that could have fit the timeline. But still I bet that somebody would have noticed and protested him if it was as obvious as it sounds. Some clarity on that would be good too.   I just hope that everybody takes a breath and finds out the real deal before reacting to extremely .

The random screen shot you just posted has nothing to do with the allegation that Rich raced a qualifier for his son. Do you understand the difference between the two issues?

I just dug through the Cooksey video....let's clear up a few inaccuracies.

1. It wasn't a Loretta Lynn Regional, the younger Taylor brother only attempted LL one time on 85s and never tried for it again. The crash was at a Road to Mammoth race in late February of 2017.

2. The 15 foot down side berm was actually around 40-50 feet down a cliff/steep hillside. I remember the crash area because it was insanely sketchy how the section was built and I personally swapped and almost ate shit off that corner around two weeks before. Donn Maeda crashed in the same section the week prior at a Transworld race and requested the section be changed because he almost flew off the same cliff. Looking down the section you'd fly off, literally, scared the hell out of me...

3. The most obvious thing that can't be overlooked when you look up basic court docs, when injured if the injured party has major medical bills, the insurance company will sue anyone and everything attached to the incident to recoop their loss on the payout. The lawsuit is filed under the injured person's name, not the insurance company's name. If the injured party doesn't co-operate with the lawsuit, they will suspend payments to medical bills, etc.

Shitty part is most of this falls under NDAs and unless someone wants to get sued...it's hard to release details of the case itself.

4. Injuries to Zach were pretty severe, it wasn't just a broken pelvis. His total broken bone count was around 30. Shattered both ankles, his wrists, broken toes, broken sacrum, broken pelvis, collapsed a lung, and a ruptured bladder. He had three blood transfusions, and actually flat-lined at the hopsital. He was fucked up, over three weeks in UCLA hospital.

5. Rich would've gone to the hospital with Zach with the severity of his injuries, he's also over 200 pounds trying to pose as his 120lb 13 year old son the same day? Again, this was in late February, there was only one are qualifier for LL that had happened that year before that date, that was at ACP. There was no area or regional qualifiers for LL scheduled at LACR in 2017

Not to be a contrarian, but after a major injury every insurance company will ask the questions. If they would have said, yes it was a rider error not anyone but the injured fault the insurance company would have accepted it and kept paying.

Small world eh? He's not blood related uncle, but he was my dads mechanic back in the 80's and he was around a lot when I was younger so he's still Uncle Don to me

I never said it did. Here you are trying to make people look stupid again. It was to confirm it was a mammoth qualifier where the kid wrecked.

When I raced at the Dunes regularly in the 80’s there was a guy in the Open Int. Class with us that everybody called Uncle Don. Even had it on the back of his pants. I wonder if it is the same guy?

I didn't say anything was okay, I just pointed out inaccuracies and commented that lawsuits need to be taken with a grain of salt since info is scarce.

It's up to everyone to make an opinion, if they want to, from the information provided. Or just read, it's just information.

I appreciate that you added “if you want to”.

I have observed that many, including a younger me, feel the need to have an opinion on everything. And also cling to and project that perspective onto the world as if it was 100% true and “right”.

Side note…I see the Vital crowd is on brand. The guy getting lit up for being involved in a lawsuit suing a track also has 5 upvotes to “sue someone into oblivion.”

If you have been on the wrong side of an accident and incurred astronomical medical bills you could see how ruthless insurance companies are and will pull no stops at getting someone else to cover your medical costs without a debit ever coming from their own collection and investment of your monthly premium.

To clear something up about Rich’s kids age.  He’s under 26 and in Ca. he can be on his dad’s policy which I’d bet my paycheck he probably is.
