When was the last time there was a fluent well spoken announcer who knew nothing about the sport?
Well....she had good reason. I just had my sloppy lips on my hands to make the sweet sweet music with....
2007 Motocross of Nations at Budds Creek Maryland.
RC, RV or Hunter wouldn't call anyone a keyboard warrior to their face either. So what makes them any different?

Art Eckman...
Art Eckman RIP and RC cannot be compared.
But since you brought up Eckman, let’s put his voice to this headline:
The GOAT calls out keyboard warriors David!
Sounds lame even in Eckman’s voice.
Wasn't comparing I just answered his question of when the last time there was a fluent well spoken announcer who knew nothing about the sport....he was a sportscaster on an Atlanta tv station prior to getting the SX gig.....
They had a couple guys from ABC back in the day. I think Indy 02
And that burly tall woman in the late 70,s, I think her name was Caitlan........
The issue we have in every sport, especially ours, is that former pros are given analyst positions when so many more qualified people for that specific job would be miles better. A guy who never had the speed to make the pros, but understood the sport, is well spoken, and can articulate words on the broadcast would be immaculate. But everyone who may fit that bill is glossed over completely because they aren’t a former pro. Off the top of my head, I can’t remember the last time we had a non former pro as what would be referred to as the “color analyst”. We went from Emig to RC. Before him, it was Stephenson for one year in 06. Cameron Steele I guess would be the one in 04 and 05. Before that it was Bailey for several years.
Point is, being a former pro, let alone a champion, means the job is essentially yours if you want it over anyone else who wasn’t a pro. Emig was forced out for another pro who had a more successful career. That ain’t gonna happen with RC because he literally had the most successful career ever. We all know there are hundreds if not thousands out there who would be great at the job RC has, but they will never even get a chance.
I’ve noticed this too, but I’ve never known why RC doesn’t seem to like Chase…
Chase mentioned on Pulp a couple weeks ago that he watches the broadcast on mute, so I guess the feeling is mutual.
People who use the term “keyboard warriors” are generally a type of person.
Temper High!
promoting from within has ruined many a businesses
I wonder what RC and RVs comeback to Blair calling them out would be? Is Daniel Blair also just a keyboard warrior now?
Starts about 9:00.. "broadcast was a bummer".. "it was clear nobody did their homework"
Pit Row
Out of context much....he was specifically talking about the futures coverage and not the entire broadcast...
Paul Malin will get all the EMX125 kids' names right and WMX girls' names right this weekend.
It's not like the Futures were on some separate broadcast, they were right during the climax of the St. Louis broadcast.
And RC (not sure why you're calling out RV about the broadcast?) would do a better job if he attended and announced all the big amateur races...
Did you listen to the title 24 segment? RC and RV both used this as their main point.
Then, someone with experience offers criticism of exactly what RC and RV were defending.
RC may be the GOAT of moto, but Daniel Blair or Grant Langston would smoke RC in the broadcast booth all day, any day. Paul Malin in MXGP is another great example (for great announcing / commentary).
I would absolutely tell RC he should not be in the booth in person. I would do it respectfully, but would be honest
For some reason, the networks find a ton of value in "X time champion" because it allegedly brings credibility. I don't give a damn if they know what they are talking about and can communicate it well.....which RC does not.
Ok, let’s test this out. Next time Ricky is on pulp I dare any of you chodes to call in and tell him that he is bad on the broadcast over the phone. Even that is kind of a cop out vs face to face but still, none of you will.
I’ll even call it a double dog dare.
RC has instinctive, relevant response and insight because he's been there and done it however IMO his delivery needs polished up.
If he applied the same approach to this piece of his career that he did when he was racing, he'd have it dialed, grow your vocabulary, practice your craft, adapt to the changes and create an excitement, all the greats did this, that's why we remember them as fondly as we do.
As consumers of this product, we should be able to close our eyes and listen to the calling and still be able to come away with an idea of what went down and enjoy it at the same time. The current booth cannot do that at this point, they have moments, but overall, it's not the best.
I also feel the tremendous ego that RC still has keeps him from being as evenhanded with his input as he could be.
Happy to do it. Remind me and bet something I won't.
Bet you something? That defeats the whole idea.
It was unfortunate and a display of piss poor judgement when RC, RV, and Hunter condescended the fans of the sport. What did they hope to gain from that discussion other than resentment. The point of their podcast is to entertain, not to insult the very people listening. They come off as arrogant, condescending, elitists. As far as Hunter saying the fans are always wrong, consider the lack of transparency in the sport, fans are kept in the dark about many things in this sport. It's too bad Hunter, RC, and RV basically state we are all full of shit.
