look at the confidence and style over this smaller triple aboard the Zuk
The guy would look good riding a Hodaka! 😎
A lot of people forget that if he hadn’t had a flat tire in Charlotte that year, he probably would have won the SX championship on the Zuk.
just look at how fluid and aggressive he is over that small triple. yes others can do this easily on social media but this is a real race, and on a bike he doesn't like. McGrath was more aggressive than is commonly purported, just as RC was far faster than he himself ever eludes to.
They also forget that an incorrect throttle cable prevented him from twisting it WFO.

Not this people.
I saw it in person and couldn't believe it was really happening.
And funny how no one ever mentions the box of roofing nails found in Emig's pits after the race...
And his clutch problems. The stories from that season seem endless between mechanical and Mechanic issues.
That video must be from early in the season because he's running those backwards Suzuki forks. Still amazing to watch him flow.
And Lamson using him as target practice at the L.A. opener.
That was crazy! I was at the race and remember everyone saying the Honda team orders were to get MC. Haha
I was there too. If I remember correctly, it was RCs first 125 win.
So basically it was great that Emig got a SX championship, great guy and fantastic outdoor rider also.
However, if Suzuki was ready for MC (which they were not because the deal was so last minute) and if MC didn't have a flat, clutch or Lamson issues, he would have won.
Which makes me think about how badass he was to get that close and realistically Suzuki was a major underdog team. Great products but not the same resources and approach of many other top teams. Like no way you can ever compare yellow's effort back then to red
MC looks like a stud on the yellow bike. After that year goes on to win 3 straight on that great Yamaha 250.
And half those clips were with the wrong throttle housing and he was only getting 3/4 throttle!! Long live the King!
I think your mistaken. I watched Carmichael come up through the amateur ranks here in south Georgia/North Florida. If I am not completely wrong, Carmichael's first 125 SX win was his home race here at the Georgia Dome before they tore it down. I was there for that one. Second was what might be considered his other home race in Orlando (Havana is on the Georgia/Florida line but closer to Atlanta). I think Charlotte was 3rd 125 SX win.
I live in the same area and was at those same races. My first Supercross was at Fulton Co in ‘80. I even went to the old Six Flag Nationals. There are a lot of moto savvy people in this area. Many that know way more than I do.
As stated, I mentioned that could have been wrong. I don’t really keep up with stats. I did remember him crashing out a lot during those first few races, but remember RC winning Charlotte because it had a bit of a motocross section and he was absolutely flying in that part of the track.
Old School. I remember my first SX at the old outdoor Fulton County Stadium. Good times. My how far it has evolved since then.
I hv 2 pairs of those pants, they still fit. I saw MC at Indy he looked great everyone said he’s going to get his 1st win tonight. Then his clutch was smoked He couldn’t jump the single & even land on top of the table top. He was clearing it. He was cool to everyone yet after the race at the trk. Hinson made an extra clutch plate clutch basket after Indy. His mechanic fell in love , you know things happen then. Like forgetting to install the ball bearing on the clutch rod. That’s why he smokes clutches. Mn. Was his 1st win After the podium. They said stick around Jeremy has a treat for everyone. Mc did countless nac nacs off both triples. We all went crazy, it was the best win celebration ever. I yelled yes you got the win in the semi . His mechanic was genuinely super happy and pumped.
The rm 175.
Pretty sure it was the Arizona round that he ate it and his bike ended up standing upside down on the bars and seat just like how you do it to lube a bicycle chain. That was crazy. Wonder if he still has nightmares from that season 🤣
Pit Row
100%. I loved the 90s era the best, but there are very few things in my life that I look forward to more than Moto.
For me it was the 80's era that I fav'd the most... Bailey, Johnson, Hannah, Wardy, etc.
Weirdly enough this is my favourite year of his career. The style and setup was so on point.
Yeah I thought the gear looked cool too. I got free gear but had to bring it back end of the yr. And the shop sold them. I bought them instead of returning them to the shop. 2 pairs size 32. I like the 95 gear the most. Actually I like anything 95, my g20 super Chevy van, ext cab pu, all the bikes, Vetts, music. I live my life like it’s 95 & 83.
You’re speaking my language brother.
I'm speaking from memory - Didn't MC sign with Suzuki about 2 weeks before A1 and have almost no testing time before the series started and he still almost won another Championship
I believe it was early December he signed, but yeah, pretty short testing time.
That year it was L.A. - 1. They raced at the Coliseum because Angel stadium was getting a facelift. Some of the loudest noise from the fans was for the support of Lance Smail and his thunderous 4 stroke. He paved the way for Henry that season.
I'm just here for the sweet sound of a properly singing 2-stroke.....
Man....I so miss that era of racing.
Day 2 that I'm rewatching this on my lunch break. Good stuff!
Awesome video, a must watch for me at home tonight.
Amazing to look back in because of the circumstances it seems as though MC was the underdog in this fight perhaps?
Was that before or after he replaced the right side up forks?
