And guys I think the fact that DC even comes on here to explain the decision is well crazy. haha. Kind of like if the commissioner of the NFL went on to the Cleveland Browns message board after they were moved to Baltimore and explained the move in every little detail personally. To me this is a guy who cares enough about the sport to defend his decisions in depth to us the fans or whoever is on here when he clearly doesn't need too.
+1

ANd I also don't really understand why it's even our business about the GH thing. Except for people that may have already arranged plans to go there.

Should DC do anything to keep GH on the schedule?

No. And Glen Helen shouldn't either.

He tried and even Glen Helen admitted in their press release that there were negotiations not just singular ultimatums. All this bluster will mean nothing in a few months.
Absolutely. But the concept here on Vital seems to be that negotiations fail only because one side is malicious.

I should have clarified a little better........I do not think any motocross track will ever be smooth, nor should it be.

But I don't think tracks with 3 foot holes and whoops the entire way around it are the way to go.

Motocross tracks will always get rough even if you prep it before every moto......but where do you draw the line? I think you can leave some sections rough, but that doesn’t mean the entire track has to be that way to prove motocross is a bad ass sport.

I was more trying to say I think DC is great for the sport, not harming it.

Wow, I can't believe that people are ripping on DC because Glen Helen wouldn't comply with their contract. You guys need to be ripping on Glen Helen instead for not complying.

MX is not what is used to be and it never will be again.

It was once an underground sport, small in scale and very accessible. At one time, you could got to Lake Whitney for a National, show up on Saturday and sit on Bob Hannah's box van bumper while he practiced. Not any more. Now you buy a pitpass and just maybe get an autograph if your lucky.

I have been reading for the last 20 years how everyone wants this sport to grow. I personally could care less as a fan. I liked it small and underground. It seems the people who want the growth are industry people, and they want the money I would guess.

I still love to watch an outdoor National, I think it is the greatest spectator sport there is, but the ambiance at the races is not the same.

As far as going all Euro on the tracks, that is the wrong way to go. Nationals are supposed to be tough, rough, chewed up, and gnarly.

As someone who has ridden Whitney a lot in the 80s and 90s, I was always amazed at how rough it was for a AMA National, It was not even the same track that I would ride the following weekend. I don't want to see that go away.

I have known DC a few years now, I am not sure if we're merely acquaintances or friends, because it's not like we go out to dinner or hang out or send each other Christmas cards, but we are friendly and we do get along. We greet each other with a smile and a handshake whenever we see each other.
That said, I have no problem telling DC how I feel on things and him and I have had a couple, I am not sure I would say "heated" discussions on the phone, but they were certainly "spirited," especially on my side of the line.
My point in saying that is that I don't always agree with everything that goes on in this crazy fucked up sport I love and I don't agree with all the decisions made in and for it.

But I will say this, he gives a shit...plain and simple...DC does give a shit, as does Rita and the rest of the WV gang.

As explained earlier, he's not a guy in a clean suit or polo shirt at the races directing lackeys what to do, because I have on many occasions personally seen DC digging fence post holes, stapling up banners, operating machinery and dragging a rider's bike off the track...all without fanfare, all without photographers around like it's some ceremony.

He does it because he gives a shit.

Is he in it to make money? Of course he is, why wouldn't he be? You fault Mitch Payton for being in it for a profit? We're all in it to make money.

But like Mitch, he gives a shit...he gives a shit about his product and making it a good product.

I would much rather have someone who gives a shit at the helm, someone willing to get their hands dirty, than someone who wants to run the races solely as some social event, dress nice, shake hands and eat from china and never dirtying his hands.

GP tracks do not get groomed the whole weekend they get rough... if you seen the British championship video from mallory at the weekend you would see it gets rougher than most US nationals too.

Davey is doing what he needs to do to raise the profile of the US nationals to where it should be - alongside Supercross in the US. Everyone just has to wait and see if it will work.

However, if you think shorter, smoother, man made (with press boxes and corporate suites) tracks are better for MX you are way off.

Denver doesn't fall in this category, and it is still on the schedule.
I'm not sure fingers have to be pointed, but if they do I would be inclined to point them to the only track that fell off the series...

Lakewood was way over groomed for TV last year. And while it did used to host an National back in the day, the current track is more man made than not. It does look like a cool track and I may venture out there for the MXDN. However, as new age as it may be w/the big screens and press access, it is not an MX track in the true sense. I am really pointing fingers at the future of the series as we know it. SX/MX hybrid, made for tv at best. It is a shame.
I won't argue about the grooming. I don't like the night race. Lighting a track on the side of a hill is very difficult.

Have you been to the modern Lakewood track?

I liked the layout of the track. Especially the last year (supposed to be 2nd to last year) when they ran it backwards.

I am sure that MX Sports agenda is not shorter tracks, smoother tracks, etc. but is to grow the sport of MX. and I would bet that Glen Helen's agenda is to look out for Glen Helen. Some of these decisions may be unpopular, but knowing Davey, they are in the context of growing the sport.

We are also skipping over the fact that MX Sports puts on Loretta Lynns, probably the most core event in the sport.

Glen Helen is a great event, but the future of the sport does not rest on it. The future of the sport rests on promotion, TV, attendance, participation, etc. I think MX Sports has already proven themselves.

The way I understand it......... GH was given a warning along with 4 other tracks several years ago to make upgrades to the facilities. DC's own High Point was also on the list along with Troy and Broom Tioga. Troy & Broom sold the races to CO & TX. High Point & Southwick made the necessary changes. GH did not make the changes that were stipulated in the warning.

GH national contract expired last year and ......the upgrades still had not been made. GH was offered a short term contract with the upgrades to be performed but GH refused the contract. GH would only agree to make the changes if they were given a long term contract.

GH made the decision to give up the national by not making the stipulated track changes.......not MX Sports.

BTW..........The Combs family is Moto and has been for 40 years!

How about we find a place to build a track out near Carlsbad...somewhere in the "near-by" vacinity...?

Yup!

You see where I'm goin' with this?!

what if it turns out that the big 4 had something to do with this...i mean everybody always says the big 4 run the sport and blame them for all the bad stuff but now it's all DC's fault...what the fuck?

i said it before, i never knew there were so many whiny ass jackoffs that love (supposedly) the rough and tough badass hardcore sport called motocross.

DC is a damn good dude that sure doesn't deserve the bashings he takes.

thank yourself lucky you have DC at the helm of american motocross. he's doing a hell of a job. no one knows the ins and outs of what has went on between geln helen and mx sports, but i believe DC would have done everything in his power to not have a venue change at this late date.

and come on here lets be honest, it could be worse, you's could have a fat fucking greedy italian bastard running your series doing away with tracks like gaildorf, hawkstone park, namure, screwing the life out of promoters and riders, making sure sponsors were more happy with pits that you dont get your fuckin feet dirty in rather than the spectator paying a fucking fortune to keep the fat twat up in pasta.

i'd take DC anyday Smile

Who exactly wants the sport to grow?

I personally would rather be at a National with 10,000 fans who also ride, rather than 30,000 folks, and 20,000 of them do not ride.

i would think from a marketing standpoint, at an outdoor, you have your core audience to market to.

I could care less if Fox and Astars can sell their shirts at JC Penney. These people buying them have no clue what Fox or Astars even makes.

I am not saying I will not go watch a race, I am sure I will, but I personally could care less if the industry guys make more money for themselves or not.

I was at GH in 2003. I thought it was a great track to watch a race at myself.

Like I said, outdoors is supposed to be tough.

There is a already a sport with nice pits, lots, and I mean lots of exposure, plenty of beers sales, lots of rednecks, press boxes, nice facilities, and everything else you could want, it is called NASCAR, and it sucks the big one IMO.

Motocross is not and never will be NASCAR. The industry insiders just need to get over it.

Look at Supercross, it is very mainstream, and there was what, 23 riders showed up in Canada?

I will add that the GNCC series feels a lot like the MX series of yesterday. Just enough factory involvement to be cool, and feel big time, but it still has a grass roots feel to it.as well. I think they do a great job at those races. Lousy spectator sport, but a great series anyway.

Dude,

You should get back in your program and finish the rest of the steps; because, you seem stuck on "Anger".

Let it go.

YOU are not Exclusive.

YOU are not the Sport.

YOU don't know shit.

The rest of the "World" knowing about...and...wanting to be a part of this sport...

To be a part of "The Lifestyle"...

To be a part of the Active Outdoor Motorsports Community IS THE ONLY THING THAT WILL KEEP IT ALIVE SO THAT MY -2- YEAR OLD CAN ENJOY IT, TOO...WHEN SHE'S AN ADULT!

Please, go sit down and let the adults talk.

As for the "Industry"?

Again, you don't know shit.

FMF puts SOOOOOOOOO MUCH MONEY into the Nationals, The Teams, The Sport...into Organizations that FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTS TO RIDE...& that's jus' ONE Company in this Industry that you "could care less" about.

Well, you see my point.

We don't care about your negative hatin' bullshit.

More "Fox" shirts...
More "Metal Mullisha" shirts and hats...
More "A-Stars"...
More "FMF" stickers over Ford badges...

Keep it comin'...
Keep it growin'...

Keep Riding!

i get the feeling that most of the peolpe tht post here are not really mx fans at all, they might even ride dirt bikes but they dont have a clue about the sport of motocross......

so a few years ago everybody was bitching about how the outdoors were loosing ground to sx, that all the money was to the sx, that the top racers were signing sx only contracts and something had to be done to save motocross in the usa.......
so last year there was better conditions and that brought the so asked tv, even with some live coverage, live internet coverage and all the major players were now interested in mx, even the sx only riders were trying to change their contracts to be able to be there also........it was all good and the sport was growing back to where it should be......evem the million dollar man was trying to blame his team for not being there......so the outdoors were the thing once again.........

now just because one of the major old school tracks, that never showed will to go along with the changes and improvements required and was dropped from the series, and it is still to be known the real reason for it.........alll that was done and achived in this few years, and that was a lot bitched for......is just forgoten and the bitching is now all the way around...........

i have a hard time understanding what makes so much people act like this, they dont argue any alternative ideas, they dont even show they understand whats the issue, they just go around bitching about everything and everybody all over and the only thing we can get from them is "the good old days"...........

I am not angry, just stating my opinion, maybe I should use more emoticons so you will know how I feel.

I didn't say I wanted FOX or Astar to fail, and I don't think either company is hurting too much. So how was I "hatin" on anything?

It was the NASCAR comment, right? True, I do dislike NASCAR. I just don't get it.

I guess your an insider TeamGreen? Makes sense, but then everyone in SoCal is an insider.

Not me, I don't know shit. But you know it all TeamGreen.

That is the problem with this forum, everyone's an "insider", everyone has the biggest cock, the fastest bike and the hottest girlfriend. Everyone is friends with Bubba and Ricky.

FUCK YOU to TeamGreen. you sound like the typical arrogant SoCal prick.

Was that clear enough? And I am still not angry, but I think you are a little bit.

Have a nice day.

It would interesting to know what the conditions were that GH wasn't complying with.

I always thought that track showed very well on TV and for spectators. They also seemed to have better facilities than most other tracks.

I'll miss it. I'm not blaming anybody for it being gone, I'd just like to know some more about why it's gone.
