I have the TP199 full length and Slayco. I also have the TP199 lites. I had to go up a size on the full TP199 and Slayco. The same size as the TP199 lites were too tight. It seems like the Slayco slide down more while riding for me. They are probably more comfortable than the TP199 due to that weird strap setup on the TP199 above the knee but the slide down part isn't going to work as I banged my knee pretty good on my handlebar with the pads on and it hurts.

I really want to figure out a way to get the hard Astars knee pads to stay in place better. I may sew them to a knee sleeve.

Do you guys still wear a tall sock like a brace sock or just run the pads without them? I know the sock used to help keep the brace from sliding down.

Ordered a set of the slayco to try.

I run the EVS knee brace socks that go up to your thigh and have the rubber grippy shit on them. Haven't once noticed them slipping down.

I have a question for you. I recently bought the slayco ones after over a decade in the same braces (just kept rebuying). I bought the L/XL slayco and they BARELY fit on my legs. I am 5'10 194lb but I lift weight seriously and have large quads. When I say these things are tight, like I cant really bend my leg with them on. Having said that - are the TP ones bigger? I almost bought the TP ones but the slayco ones actually looked more comfortable. I will buy the TP guards if they are larger and fit better.

Yes, the TP199s are bigger. Not dramatically but maybe the equivalent to one size more.

Saw the tp199s on Amazon for 77.85 if anyone's looking for new. Slaycos are 116 there.

I have been in Pod knee braces since my first ACL/ knee reconstruction… I am used to them but I am beginning to think they are just a physiological bandaid… I destroyed my good knee 6 years ago wearing the Pods. I think I am ready to ditch the braces, I used to squeeze my bike and ride on balls of feet really good before braces, it’s a struggle to get good feel with braces on….kind of nervous about it though…..Side note: on my 3rd set of braces, they not cheap…the Velcro only seems to stick to everything it’s not supposed to stick to….

Ditched my asterisk knee braces for Slayco’s. So much more comfortable. Better movement and grip to the bike.

Another TP 199 here. I have 3 sets so I can ride more this year without washing gear or wearing stinky gear so much. I used to have braces, but I just don't like the lack of feeling

I’ve had 3 knee reco’s in the past so always wore braces but my knees would ache after riding. Been 3 years now with tp199s and it is night and day better. My only advice is to be careful through g-out situations for the first few weeks of riding without the braces to build back the leg strength the braces took away.

Barely fit at fits should mean they’ll be comfortable after a few hours.

Also, the inner sleeve has tabs on the sides to grip when you pull them on. Pull up that inner sleeve and get the inner part where it needs to be then situate the outer sleeve.

I would probably take this advice from a Jett fanboy. They wear-out knee pads a lot..

Wore my EVS Slayco knee guards for the first time yesterday. I’ve been on a couple sets of PODs since roughly 08-09. I couldn’t believe how much more comfortable they are. I could get my legs up higher and tighter In corners. Just felt 100 times more comfortable on the bike. I am still worried about protection and not getting rid of my knee braces  completely but I would rather ride in knee guards any day.

I use the Fox MTB Launch Pro D30 knee pads and I love em. Without the plastic shin guard I run my boots way tighter and it feels better in my opinion.

I’ll also add, I’m 6’1 and have skinny legs and I had to get the L/XL size. I bought both to try and I couldn’t even get the S/M on. Just wanted to point that out to anyone considering the EVS Slayco.

Chiming in on the sizing up recommendation for the Slayco pads. I'm 5'11" / 175 lb and generally wear a medium size in mtb knee pads. Ordered the small / medium Slayco and could barely get them over my calf. The large / XL is still a pretty snug fit; if your legs are anything above average to slim, you might experiences difficulties in getting the Slayco pads on.

I purchased these not long ago to replace braces and was disappointed.  They had a couple spots with pressure points that made them uncomfortable. I would try the tp199 over these for anyone in the market.

I have the Astars version. I didn't notice any pressure points but they move around when riding and don't allow you to grip the bike with your knees as well as the softer pads.

Do they cover below the top of the boot at all or do they stop there?

Bumping this back. I have about 10 hours wearing the EVS Slayco and the more I ride in them, the more they are sliding down. It's almost as if they stretched out a little bit. I did have the strap about maxed out but I can only do a few laps before I have to stop and pull them back up. Any solutions? I'm now looking at trying the Scott Softcon Hybrid because it comes in a Medium and I like that is has two straps.

Thats a bummer. I dont have many more hours on my since previous posts, but i hope they don't get too bad. Honestly for me, stretching out a little may help as long as they stay put.

I feel like they just need more sizing options for these. The design is great but I am actually on the opposite side of you where the L/XL is just too small for me. They are incredibly tight. I wish they had 4 sizing options instead of 2.

TP199's are nice but really hot in the summer.

Went back to the cheapies.

I switched from braces to the Troy Lee D30 ones (Raid?) this year. 10/10

Bro, this under your knee guards. These CoolOMG($19) thin padded sleeves let you rotate for inside knee protection when griping the bike. Conforms to the curves and still just covers the knee cap.

I just switched to the Slayco Knee Pads after many years of using knee braces and I’m not having any issues with the Slayco pads sliding down. I’m sure you already tried this but my advice is to make sure your upper boot straps are tight enough to keep the pads from sliding down.

I use Fox full length socks under my pads and roll the excess at the top down over the knee pads, same as I would normally do for knee braces.

I found a hack with $20 CoolOMG padded knee sleeves off Amazon.

I run them under std Fox guards or Astar short knee pads. Comfy and cool. I rotate them to protect the knee cap and for gripping the bike.
