The most exciting ending to a Triple Crown is a “winner take all” race #3…

… but “winner take all” is the rule of every regular main event. And if two riders are tied coming into a Triple Crown race #3, then they just need to beat each other and don’t necessarily need to push to win the race. In other scenarios, like last night’s third 450 race, if Sexton did catch Lawrence, #18 could have just let him go by and still won the overall.

Shorter mains bring some excitement because the intensity level can be higher, but the start becomes even more critical and there’s less chance of a great come-from-behind moment.

The result of the 3rd race in a Triple Crown is *at best* equal in importance to a standard main event, but usually less important. If they’re going to keep doing these things, I think they need to weight the points or something, like they did in the SMX finale.

It’s fucking better than 2 out of 3 hours being for gate pick. I’ll never get the defense of the standard format.

instead of triple crown it should be 2 motos like outdoors but they have to try so hard to be different and special they keep being retarded.

regular format is terrible though it’s 0 excitement until the mains for me and by then it’s be 2-2.5 hours of endless commercials and gate pick nothingness heat races.

I think they should hand out points as if it was a normal main event each race.

In that way each spot would be worth something instead of just the total results.

What comes to my mind reading this they could give some points for winning a heat race (just like mxgp pays points for winning quali)

I still don’t like it. I don’t enjoy watching 2 hours of heat races with half the good guys in each heat and an lcq with guys I don’t care about.

the mxgp qualifier is at least all the top stars, I don’t care that Eli or Kenny wins a heat race if it means nothing come main event time.

'Half the good guys'

Isnt that what East/West is.

The only down side of that is if a rider was sitting out with injury he would be missing out on a whole bunch of points.

Not if the max points payout for 3 races doesnt exceed 25 points. Just split it.

Yeah so then that means it’s half of the already half in a heat , so there’s nothing to watch at that point, and bringing that up isn’t an argument against me, I also don’t like that. The 250 class is boring as a result of that.  But think of the “available rides” argument is what everyone says.

i just want good racing 🤷‍♂️ not gate pick musical chairs for 2/3 of the seasons “racing”

Should be 10 points for first and go down by a point so 10th is 1 point for each race. Most points gets overall and the trophy but no additional points. If you sweep you get a few more points than normal format but not anything extreme. If you can't manage to get into top 10 in 3 races you get no points but you're probably not really in points battle anyway.

This lol, I’ve been watching since 05 and I’m so bored of heat races that I think I’m a bigger fan of outdoors now.

Yeah, but i would rather have a system that rewards the riders that are on the gate than the riders that are on the couch.

You gotta be in it to win it and as i said, there is a lot of racing in the triple crowns for to small amount of points.

There should have been a futures race at every triple crown, that really helped overcoming these long breaks between the mains. Other than that I don't get the hate for triple crowns, I personally love them (besides the long ass breaks).

From cars to swimming, racing is more exciting when it’s one and done. I like that when the winner crosses the line in a standard Supercross race, they light the candles and the rider celebrates. You know exactly who the winner is.

Even with SMX they still refuse to call them motos. I agree with you but at this point feld has shown us what they are, repeatedly.

Cause I only have to watch the last hour.

Honestly, I'd prefer two 20 min motos. Start the TV broadcast with the 450 LCQ, then  250-1, 450-1, 250-2 and finish with 450-2.

Might be a dumb idea but I wanted to see what you guys thought. Just down vote if it’s dumb.

Keep the scoring for triple crowns the exact same. But in moto 3, award 5 points to 1st, 4 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 2 for 4th, and 1 for 5th. This gives guys an incentive to improve their position in the final moto instead of coasting it in. But still a small amount of points to where it doesn’t drastically hurt anyone who misses moto 3. Even if you score more overall points on the night as someone else, their overall finishing position is what determines the event points awarded.

GPs did something similar to make the qualifying race a little more exciting. Maybe this could do the same.

Everyone I talked to in the pits at the stadium last night (riders/mechanics/industry) said the opposite and wished that Triple Crowns would go away. Nobody in the paddock likes them.

A question was also asked to me. Do the triple crowns have a championship bonus or pay different to the riders?

I don't know that answer but I know they used to have a c'hship bonus when they first started, but we never see that stuff anymore and it's all hidden.

I don’t like the 3 race format at all. 99% of the time the third race just finish in front of a guy or follow him for the win. The other reason I do not like them is the riders have to make the most dangerous part of SX “the first lap” two more times for the same points and pay as a normal race.

Make these some kind of bonus races where each main pays points. Makes no sense for someone to go 8-4-6 and get 5th overall and only lose 9 points to the winner.

3/17/2024 9:20am

A two moto format like outdoors would be awesome. Feel like it would be less confusing for new viewers if both series share the same format and give the riders/teams a break from swapping formats throughout the regular season. Also could potentially help the track from breaking down with less track time. They can use the triple crown format for the three SMX playoff rounds to make them more interesting and separate them a bit from the traditional format.

It's a lot easier to understand the reason for them if you just accept that Pro SX isn't moto... it's a made-for-TV circus that resembles moto.

It's there to entertain and generate revenue... just like PT Barnum, uh, Mike Goodwin, wanted.

I like dirt bike racing.

20 1 lap mains.

10 2 lap mains.

20 lap mains.

20 minute mains.

Whatever format is used, I'll be watching and glad to be able to see it.

tbh if you dont care a single bit who wins a heat race, then I dont know if the system is at fault or youre just fed up with the sport in general. I guess those people also dont care much who wins those main events then, or where does your enthusiasm all of a sudden come from?

Short races suck. Moto is about being in best shape, in the world! Don't have to be elite athlete for a short race. Might as well just have a 50yd. drag race.

It's cool that there were willing to try a new format, but nothing beats a winner takes all main event.

They just need something more engaging to fill the first two hours of the show.

There is a Triple Crown Championship: https://www.supercrosslive.com/triple-crown/ It probably comes with a trophy and maybe a rider will have something in their contract about it. I think it would actually be less confusing if they did something besides 3 Mains — And yeah they actual call these things Mains. You can’t have more than one Main or it’s not a Main.

I think it would be cool if this was something you have to opt into and/or qualify into. Maybe one night there’s a hot lap contest, then another night some 1v1 bracket racing, and then the finale is like a 10-man main event — all in addition to the regular main. Make it risky to enter but make the prizes huge.

Jett won three races last night against the entire field and it only counts as one. $150k in bonuses or whatever for $450k worth of wins.

Do they feed the Elephants more peanuts at the circus when they have to do more shows?
