I was wondering why he didn't let Deegan by and cruise on that treacherous track to maintain that big points lead.

I had just told my buddy he would be better letting Deegan by given the track conditions.

Came to my head too but He wasn't overriding though, watching Hammaker and Mcadoo scared the shit out of me all night.

I don't think he was over riding at all but the smart move given the track conditions would have been to finish second and have a 16 point lead over Deegan right now.

Webb sat back and waited on the mistake.

Man seeing his face when he was walking to the sxs was so crushing. You know he's been through some rough shit so he must have been in some serious pain.  Just very glad to see that he is relatively ok. Gutted for him.

I was becoming a Forkner fan and just hoping he could finally get this one done, seems like he has the talent and speed to be the next guy in the 450 class.

Least surprising thing I’ve ever seen. Same shit every year. Sincerely hope he can make a full recovery.

If he was riding the ragged edge like he was in '19, I might agree with you, but he's been in total control this season. He just got bit by a really sketchy section of the track that I'm actually surprised didn't take out more people tonight.

He did the same thing a lap or two before and I jumped out of my seat. Unfortunately it ended up biting him shortly after. I hate to see it.

He had a couple close calls that had me on the edge of my seat hoping he was gonna bring it home. Sucks so bad to see, he only made it 1.9 races and was looking great. With how big of a points lead he had he should have just backed it down, but its easy to say after the fact. Also its easy to say to back it down, but when he puts the helmet on he always goes balls to the wall every race. It really makes it win or crash for him. It sucks because out of all the years this was the season he really could back it down a bit because of the massive pile up in the previous race he had a huge points lead. Damn man I havent felt my heart drop like that since kennys big crash.

Similar to Webb walking off last year, I don't think those were tears due to physical pain. There were more to those than that, I'm sure.

Why did they have him up walking? Another questionable move by the alpinestars crew. He just landed on his head and neck from 20 feet in the air… They dont have an xray on the track so they have no way of knowing if theres anything serious going on in there. Just put him on the board to be safe. Brian Moreau is suing for what he says is being moved inappropriately, this stuff is serious.

Also how insane is it that they just leave bare concrete next to massive rhythm sections? On those sections if you crash to the right theres nowhere to hit but the concrete. Is saving a couple loads of dirt worth having such a dangerous obstacle?

Dirt or concrete that was going to hurt…..they put in nets on the bowl turns which was a positive, they took boats out of the infield, another positive…..unfortunately you can’t protect against everything that could happen

The issue I see is how will medical staff get to a rider if the concrete was replaced with foam. Seems dirt or maybe some kind of mulch might be better

So bummed for the guy. Absolutely brutal crash. Seemed like it took the wind out of the entire stadium. Hope he isn’t in too bad of shape.

Foam mats like my kids used for gymnastics training would work great.  They fold up easily, you could ride or walk on them no problem.  Seriously, how can they have bare concrete right next to that jump lane?

I hate that this was the pitboard 5 seconds before his get off. A lot of people were struggling with that section all night and it ultimately bit him too, just worse.

It makes you wonder . . . Did this message get him to think about not thinking . . . and took his mind off the dirt? Who knows what goes on in his mind or the mind of anyone who has an unforced error.

It's amazing these guys can take off and land perfectly so many times and then bang. One error and he's on the ground.

Such a bummer for the guy.

Gymnastics/wrestling mats are way more expensive than you would think, plus you would need another semi to transport them, another 4 trucks of dirt would probably be cheaper.

That was crazy ugly, but good to see him walking away hope nothing is damaged in a long term way.

Mulch, pea gravel, dirt, rubber mulch, foam pads, nets, something.....

I will be very surprised if he comes out of this without some fractures, spinous process, ribs, clavicle.... we'll see but that's a lot of energy that isn't getting absorbed by concrete.

The way he landed wasn't far off from being the type of landing the gives you axial loading and high C spine injury either.

Hope this one gets some people's attention. Might want to reconsider neck braces too.

Mats would probably cost a lot less than the medical bills these guys are incurring.

My concern would be the foam, rubber or whatever would be more "sticky". The one benefit of the concrete is that once you hit it you slide across it. It won't grab your visor or helmet and rip your head off.

Just saying that 4" of uncompacted dirt would probably be easier logistically and accomplish the same goal.

Yes, the sport has risk. Yes, the guys know what they signed up for. That is not relevant though for what is off the track. It should not be any worse crashing off the track than on.

There should be more reasonable precautions. Couple of years ago Cooper Webb took a hard tailbone crash on the concrete and nothing was done then either.

Is he over riding the bike?  Maybe move to 450's and he can tame down his aggressive style.

I barely finished basic EMT school 15 years ago and never in a million years would let someone walk off like that. Backboard, spider straps, C spine.

am I crazy?? I’ll be shocked to hear if he’s ok after that.

Yea, he’s lucky that his back/shoulder took the initial impact and not his head or neck.  Good to see him walking.  Man I hope he can somehow line up next weekend.  None the less, just glad to see him walk off.

If feld were paying the medical bills they’d do something about it.

Forkner has one the unluckiest records I’ve ever seen. They always seem to happen at the worst time. I respect his heart, to keep coming back because his career has been brutal:

2018 SX: Breaks his collarbone battling Osborne for title (was only 7 points down with 3 rounds to go)

2019 SX: Crashes out while in points lead, misses all of motocross

2020 SX: crashes out in final race (was only 7 points down going into it). Misses motocross

2021 SX: Crashes out in round 3. Misses rest of Supercross.

2022 SX: Crashes with Jett round 3. Misses most season, Title is done

2022 MX: Crashes before round 1. Out for the season after round 1

2023 SX: Crashes before first turn. Out for the season

2023 MX/SMX: Crashes a few times, misses last 2 rounds of SMX and most of MX

2024 SX: Crashes round 2, likely done for the season

7 straight years of missing almost all of your SX and/or MX seasons is absolutely brutal. Can’t imagine the agony he’s in

Didn’t he also crash at Washougal and break his wrist?
