Everyone loved Hannah for being outspoken, confident and cocky. Yet they hate Jett for  way less reasons. Imagine if Jett threw some Monster girls crotch in his face on the podium! Lmao! You can’t make this shit up. The moto community as long as forums have been around have proven to be a bunch of cry babies. You never go to the track and hear this bullshit hate on anyone really. Nature of forums. Flame on. image 120

Imo . It's not so much jett it's his huge casual fan base same as deegan . They barely know anything about the sport but are very vocal on social media.   it's like big soccer teams . The players are grand it's the fans that turn you off . Ie , Jett is like the Man U of moto riders

It’s mostly jealousy - some people can’t handle watching others have success come to them seemingly easily.

Jett’s a super nice kid. My son and I ran into Jett a couple years ago at MotoGP at COTA. My son follows Jett closely (and named his own son - my grandson - Jett) and we knew he was there for a promo with Marc Marquez. One morning we’re walking down a walkway towards the track and pass a few kids, and as we pass my son says to me, “That was Jett Lawrence!” Jett jokingly says, “No it’s not, mate.” Despite the fact that Jett’s friends kept walking, he stopped and took pictures with us and signed our lanyards. Then he ran off to catch back up to his friends.

I’ll treat him like I would anyone else in my Thumpa Reports - I’ll follow the comedy as I see it and no one is off limits. But my family and I are huge Jett fans.

Ok, I do remember he won the 250SX, 250MX and 500MX in the same year, I thought his 125 was an MX title not a MXGP title.

1988 he was 125 world champion on a factory Honda. 87 on a factory Honda a much superior bike to any. He lost to a Dutch rider. 86 he didn’t do much.  91 he was just a smarter rider Bradshaw on a 250 was a lot faster. On a 500 Stanton was faster. Only 5 or 7 rnds in the 500,s. And 7 or 8 in the 250,s. 1 bad moto and your out.  He never won a moto in 91 on a 250.  1990 he broke his arm on the 125 in the nationals. Guy Cooper won the 90 125 title. The Coop still rides a 125 a 05 cr125.  Guy Cooper is a Legend.  Jett doesn’t ride 125,s nobody likes Jett. Haha

I think it comes down to one simple mistake- don't disrespect the KING!!!! Everyone loved RC, right up to the point where they lowered him from the ceiling on a throne with a crown. The crowd let him know immediately, there is and only will ever be 1 King. RC eventually clawed his way back from that PR mistake and became a crowd favorite again. Now recently Jett, or his team, floats the idea that Jett is gunning for the Kings win record. Really?! Before you even win your first race!? I think the crowd's reaction Saturday was there way of letting him know to "keep the KING's name out your fucking mouth!!"  MC is sacred in SoCal, don't put yourself on his level.

Personally, I only heard that he mentioned 72, I did not hear the context. Was he baited into saying it or did he outright say it of his own volition?

Yes, it was too early to say it out loud, but shouldn't every rookie have it as his goal to be the best ever? When we were kids riding our bicycles, we never dreamed of winning the local tracks C class, we dreamed on our bikes that we were winning Anaheim or Daytona. As far as Jett dreaming of 72 wins, if your dreams don't scare you, you need new dreams.

First time he mentioned McGrath was in interview with ESPN.  22 Sept 2023

"A realistic goal -- it will be hard to do -- is to beat McGrath's Supercross wins record," Lawrence says. "I'm coming in so young and will already be battling for wins straight away."  https://www.espn.co.uk/auto/story/_/id/38440295/jett-lawrence-motocross-undefeated-season

Then after his first SX win.

Jett was then asked about his comment in the pre-season about going after McGraths 72 wins… “In all seriousness about that, it probably might not get done, it’s a lot of race wins. Coming in you have got to set such a high goal for yourself that’s going to make you go a little crazy for it and make you work hard. It’s not meaning really that I’m going to do it, it’s I want to have a goal, if I didn’t have a goal I would be happy just to be here and race around in whatever position I wanted."  https://gatedrop.com/jett-lawrence-on-his-first-450-supercross-win-and-mcgrath-72-record/

This is what all the haters are basing their 'he disrespected the King' bollocks on.

“In all seriousness about that, it probably might not get done, it’s a lot of race wins. Coming in you have got to set such a high goal for yourself that’s going to make you go a little crazy for it and make you work hard. Sounds like a cocky prick, where's my pitchfork?

The other thing I'm seeing in this thread is people claiming he is crying, can anyone document a single case of him crying? I love how people at the same time claim he was crying about Hombre and then claiming that he was the aggressor. You have to pick one.

For the people complaining about yet another Jett thread, I do apologize. I'm being honest when I ask the question about the Jett hate. I can't imagine a world where someone I don't know would have the power to make me dislike them so much. I said it earlier, I think Hombre and Jett both did their jobs. I just like good racing, watching people ride dirt bikes better than me and good stories.

And a 250 one as well (89)

I wondered how long it would take for the usual bullshit "reasons".

1. Jealousy

2. He's not American.

Two of the dumbest and most incorrect reasons that get repeated.

I'm not a hater of the kid by any means, but the over saturation is a bit much - and that's all on Feld. I can't recall a time in the sport's televised history where the broadcast went PiP during a race to show a rider either getting suited up, or picking their gate.

You get it...  It's the over-saturation.      ...and it's why many of us continue to poke fun at it and the psycho fans every chance we get.

It's the truth, I've been watching the sport since 1997 it's the it's been that way since I've been watching it, the one before jett was ferrandis, herlings and so on.

I have a friend who is aussie die hard mx fan, he hates anyone who isn't American or Aussie.

The only American I've seen hated on here in recent times is friese which is well deserved and Deegan which checks the jealously box.

We will see what happens when or if Prado starts winning, because that kid has a lot in common with jett especially personality and ego.

Haha i can't believe that people are so incredibly anti Jett that some of you claim that his 22-0 in the 450 class as a rookie wouldn't put him in the all-timer bracket (or at the very, very minimum on the brink of it).

Sure, the dude made mistakes with the Anderson deal. Sure, he is getting a lot of exposure (95% of it is deserved). But what he did in the summer of 2023 surely puts him in the bracket as an all-time rider. It says a lot about you if you are unable to separate his exposure, his mistakes, his person from the achievement that he did in 2023.

I agree with a lot of what you say with the over exposure but that is life in 2024.

As far as the Ando incident, I brought it up to Blair on Main Event Moto that I thought both parties did exactly what they were supposed to do. The circle of life says the young bull is supposed to challenge the old bull for dominance and the old bull is supposed to fight off the young bull. I want to see both sides do exactly what they did. Sometimes no one is wrong.

On the track both guys did what they were supposed to do which is try to pass the guy in front of you and try to stop the guy trying to pass you from succeeding, you can't justify what #18 did after the race (off the track) as something "he was supposed to do;" there is zero logic to support this theory.

The boo's had nothing to do with him not being an American either.

People looking to find fault will always find something to fault. Maybe try a little harder to not give people multiple options to choose from when they are looking for reasons to dislike you.

Angel Stadium in Anaheim is still McGrath's house (the floating caricature of MC is still proudly flown there)

Next, team lawrence should never have allowed #18 to answer any question about McGrath's 72 wins. IF the young lad would have said: "Why are you asking me, I'm a rookie and nobody will ever beat that record!" . . . he wouldn't be in knee deep in the pile of shit he finds himself in today. The Anderson helmet grab was the straw that broke the camels back.

The fans at A2 have been going there for decades and seen new superstars shine and burn. and the cycle continues

If he says that, the haters just say "Look at him just reading a script from HRC" He says what he is thinking and gets bagged for it.

The joys of a sport with a huge pool or fans with varying thoughts. Some want him and like him for saying what he thinks, some hate him for doing just that. If he read from a script and answered everything neutral there would still be those that hate on him for just doing that, and others thinking he is smart for doing so.

A forum full of varying opinions who would have thought.

Unfortunately he is currently in a no win situation with those who want to either see him completely full from grace, or just be humbled a little are taking every advantage while he is down a little.

Thing is, he is still a race winner in 450SX this year, looks to have the speed to win more, at least in contention with 4-5 others for race wins, is only 6 points from the points lead and we finally head back to a dry 20 lap main event this weekend to see where the field is really at.

The best he could do now is just go out race and keep getting results.

It is pretty much going to be the complete opposite for him for the near future compared to how it has been the past few years. The past few years, every great feat has been highlighted and praised, at the moment, every little mistake is going to be scrutinized and turned into a 20 page topic on this forum and all over social media.

He is not he first it has happened to and won't be the last.

I for one wish he didn't crash last weekend, and Jason did not get the one position penalty, because the podium and press conference after the race would have been a lot more interesting with the two of them up there Smile

The most disturbing thing about this topic is the number of grown men, most of whom are probably middle aged, who deeply dislike some stranger whom they’ve never met (and most likely never will) and whose claim to fame is that he’s fast on a dirtbike.  The guy has zero impact on their lives in any meaningful way yet they dislike him enough to be critical of his personality, his family, his career goals etc.

If that’s not fucked up in some way or another I don’t know what is.

The moto media have a part to play in this. They get their new pet, shove it up everyone’s ass until you finally puke then find a new pet and, rinse and repeat. Same with “danger boy” (puke)

First, I like the kid.  I enjoy watching history being made like he did outdoors last year as much as I like watching a season-long battle going down to the last race. Not everyone does, but we'll all be talking about that season for a long time.  Hell, I could watch the kid ride alone on an empty track and appreciate his talent.  That said, there are some things that are raising some eyebrows and causing some hate.

-All of the media hype, whether or not it is real or deserved, makes him an easy target.  Actually THE target for everyone.

-Going after the 72 win total before his first race.  Maybe this was even projected upon him, but he didn't seem to dismiss it very effectively.  Ok, great outdoor season, amazing talent, lots of buzz in the sport, but still a little overzealous.  Most fans say they like to hear confidence and a little bit of shit-talking, but this was a stretch.  Jeremy had a nice take on the matter.

-His complaints about San Francisco, saying it was stupid and should have been cancelled.  Ok, it was messy--historically messy even, but we race in the rain.  I don't think Sexton thought it should have been cancelled.

-His comments after San Fran (I think) to the effect of, "Yeah, I'm down 8 points (or whatever), but I can make that up if I have to."  Again, pretty confident and not everyone likes to hear that.  He may indeed make up the deficit...time will tell.

-The Anderson helmet grabbing incident.  From what we saw, he seemed to start it, or at least it could be interpreted as an over-reaction to Anderson's racing tactics. Happens at test/practice tracks around the country every day.  Even if you are neutral on the kid, this didn't seem to create many new fans.  The purported lack of a direct apology caused some heat as well.  I don't know if we really know what happened, but shielding the 20 year-old from intense media and rider controversy at that point may have some merit.

This is a humbling sport that can set you back in many ways.  He has done great things already, and is on the path to many more. Hopefully he's gaining the perspective that we all do as we have setbacks in life, and will hear the cheers on the podium before too long.  Just one man's opinion.

This.

Plus I will add that it started very early with 'generational talent'.  Every  fool in the media was regurgitating those words During every race, podcast etc.  It got WAY overused and I got really  sick of hearing  it.

Then he rode out of control and ended Forkern's season.   I was just starting  to really pull for Forkner.

As someone  previously  mentioned,  I too like to pull for the underdogs and the veterans who may only have 1-2 years left.

When Jett is in the back half of his career and considered  a veteran if he reaches number 2 on the SX win list then I will most likely  be pulling for him to break it.

A foreigner that is a real threat to the Americans on their home turf is very often disliked by them. Ask JMB, Pourcel, Reed, Ferrandis, Lawrence brothers... Some are also just waiting till the "foreigner" puts one foot wrong to lynch him. Remember when Marvin Musquin did what KTM expected him to do, help Ryan Dungey to claim the SX Championship over Eli Tomac? From than on, even Marvin Musquin had haters.

So to sum it up, he's a foreigner who's a real threat for championships the coming years. Than you've the fact that FELD together with his agent Lucas Mirtl are trying to make him the new RC, Stewart, McGrath... annoys people. But they need to know that someone with the poster boy quality, who also wants to be the poster boy of the sport isn't found easily. We didn't saw Tomac, Sexton, Anderson step up for example. For most people is one of those two reasons enough. But if they aren't enough you can combine them with that stupid farce against Jason Anderson, and how he personally made it worse with unfollowing Jason Anderson, while his crew already handled the situation.

But in dutch we've a saying that goes as followed: If you are willing to beat the dog, you will always find a tool to do it. What I mean is: When you are an American SX & MX fan who has an American favorite, you don't need much to dislike, hate or even bash Jett Lawrence.

See what you mean, people hate Roczen too.

If there was ever going to be a Drive to Survive style SX show, this would’ve been the season.

People in general are softer and more easily offended now than they were in the late '70's. Especially here in the US.
