The new Ducati Corse R&D - Factory MX Team presented in Madonna di Campiglio

image 136

After Ducati announced last October 24 its entry into the world of motocross with a range of models that will be available on the market in the next few years, Ducati Corse Off-Road, the Ducati division in charge of racing activity in the world of knobby tires, has now presented the two prototypes that will be used by Antonio Cairoli and Alessandro Lupino in 2024, in Madonna di Campiglio during the Campioni in Pista event.

The Desmo450 MX, this is the name of the new model, was presented on the PalaCampiglio stage in the racing livery that it will sport in competition this year - in the Italian Motocross Pro - Prestige MX1 Championship - by the Ducati Corse R&D - Factory MX Team managed by Corrado and Marco Maddii. The target of this first season of racing is mainly to acquire data and information in racing to contribute to the development of the Desmo450 MX that will go into production in the second half of 2025.

It will be Alessandro Lupino who will take part in all the rounds of the Italian Championship, as well as in an intense testing program, in which he will be joined by Antonio Cairoli.

The race debut of the Ducati Desmo450 MX is planned for March 16 and 17 in Mantua for the first round of the Italian Motocross Pro Prestige MX1 Championship.

Claudio Domenicali (CEO Ducati Motor Holding)

“It is a great pleasure to inaugurate another Ducati racing season in Madonna di Campiglio, a location that perfectly expresses the values of 'Made in Italy' of which we are proud ambassadors and which last year represented the starting point of an unforgettable season. The path that has led us to be the best in the world in racing is undoubtedly made up of the hard daily work of these years, but also of our ability to work as a team and have fun while putting our maximum effort into what we do. One of the strong elements of our brand is the ability to create a system and today we demonstrate this by jointly presenting the official teams for the 2024 racing season: the Ducati Lenovo Team, the Aruba.it – Racing Ducati Team and the novelty represented by the Ducati Corse R&D - Factory MX Team. Seeing the three bikes next to each other was a great emotion for me because, although different from each other, they are part of a single project. This belonging is underlined by the basic colour of the liveries, Ducati Red, the same for all, and also by a completely new graphic sign that recalls the curve present in the Ducati logo, inspired by the most exciting part of riding a motorbike: the bend. At the same time, these bikes are also an expression of the path that Ducati has taken in recent years, investing in its future. The entry into motocross is in fact the clear example that our will to improve and our desire to win have no limits. In these two days we will have the opportunity to give ourselves the right energy for a season that promises to be full of challenges, in which we will try to confirm our leadership in the main track racing world championships and demonstrate our capabilities in a new terrain such as specialist off-road. Challenges have always encouraged us to bring out the best and we feel absolutely ready."

I really like they went all in, looking great already and that bike will be fast !

Your design skills made it look much much better too Smile .

If you have time, may you go full vitard with :

Full gold forks like ohlins, red head, black frame + swingarm, 1 version with full black cases + cylinder and 1 version all magnesium color (and maybe red hubs and clamps if it looks good ? I don't think it is possible to also add a red or carbon front disk cover but that may look good too). Just trying to make it super exotic or like the road bike version Smile

Engine looks tall and massive with the Desmo head. I wonder how it will affect the handling?

Is the head 3d printed????

Sand casting, cheaper than die for manufacturing and Ducati is really good at it.

After the english alloy framed KTM, here's an italian CRF - with a head bigger than a YZF 400...

The lack of imagination of the designers and the resulting lack of personality of these two bike is truly appaling.

You hate everything though to be fair.

That's an easy fix:  Start your own company (pick your own product line) , wait until it is successful and has plenty of disposable cash, use your passion for MX to back factory efforts (big $$) = problem solved!

Nobody runs it in moto because it's not up to standard. My point was that Ducati has such a deep relationship with Öhlins with their race bikes and top of the line road bikes that it says a lot about Öhlins off-road that Ducati didn't go with them.

Tenneco bought Ohlins in 2018. Ohlins has changed since then.

No hate toward Monster or RB, I appreciate the support they give the sport, teams, and riders. Guess I just miss the days when team sponsors and bike graphics were more unique and inspired by the OEM. Like you had Makita Suzuki, San Manuel Yamaha or YOT, Chevy Kawi, FC Honda or Woody woodpecker HRC (granted HRC is still holding it down without a drink sponsor), etc etc. Every bike kit and team setup was really unique and took some inspo from the production models, now it’s nearly copy/paste of the same general look across the board with the same drink logo taking up 75% of that look.

Like here this is Ducati’s big reveal of their new MX bike which is cool and exciting but it’s another Monster Energy billboard with a tiny little Ducati logo, just miffs me a bit is all. Bike still looks killer, can’t wait to see the production model’s look.

Well Ducati definitely trolled the mx community on the plastics choices for the sneak peek pics when it used Honda plastics. This looks nothing like that bike now with its own plastic. Bike doesn't look bad. Actually looks like Ducati made a bike from scratch, especially that engine! Gonna be interesting watching it from the gate drop.

Why not both? I’m guessing it’s investment cast using a 3d printed wax pattern.

You hate everything though to be fair.

Not at all.

I just say out loud what I don't like. Which I'm sure is very bothersome in between twelve different Jett/El Hombre topics.

Laughing

The Lawrence Bros' HRC CRFs, red, white, grey, are always gorgeous.

And without a penny, the guy who redesigned the RMZs to deliver the 2018/2024 did a pretty good job with a radical styling.

The Beta only looks like a Beta and is nicely designed to me, even though I don't dig the half blue/half red combo.

The Varg's lines have their own personality and a very classy high end design -it would deserve an ICE engine, lol...

To me, the Ducati is just meh... A bad rendition of a  2024 CRF. Nothing to write home about.

True to Italian form.....it looks exotic.   Nice looking bike.   That front fender though.  Yikes.

Only real negative....it's another red bike.      I love red, but we already have Honda and Gas/Gas and kinda Beta.

Please design a bike that looks radically different and post it here.

Like it or not, an Aprilia or an Alta's bodywork, for instance, looked quite different than anything else. A KTM, an Husky and a GasGas succeed in looking quite different one to another. The new GasGas side panels are rather original, even though I don't specially like them.

And if you feel for instance that a 2024 YZF and RMZ look the same, plastic wise, you need a trip to the ophtalmologist.

If they really want to sell bikes, they need to roll out a 350!   Vet riders buy that bike more than any other bike and well vet riders have the money!

I wasn’t sure about that from fender, but the more I look at it, the more I like the way it flows with the radiator shrouds.  I think it’s hard to make a competitive bike with its own identity, that doesn’t end up looking completely goofy. I’m really liking this scoot

What is behind the brake pedal on the engine? Two oil windows?

Looks good but looks like that front fender is gonna hold 20 lbs of mud.

Now there's gonna be 3 red bikes on the track.
