So, I'm in the camp that you race in whatever conditions are present and that's one of the cool things about this sport.
That said, I didn't really enjoy last night's race. I almost wonder if the racers today are not as adept in bad conditions for some reason.
Sounds like there’s a bunch of Sally’s in here who have never raced a real mudder so they don’t have any appreciation for how hard that track was to navigate. Lots of strings hanging out…
Race is on NBC right now…
Outdoor stadiums in rainy areas should source more sand.

I am sure you were banned for a reason. My guess is stupidity.
Guyb banned for lame reasons, so this is not a good argument ..
I love a mudder and want to see at least one every season. And it's the same reason why we have multiple rounds and why they don't make the tracks the same for every round, because the widest variety of conditions is how you find out who the best rider is, which is the purpose of racing.
Yes that is true, but the stupidity part has been established by his thread.
"Always good racing in San Diego" ? Remember Lime-gate?!
There are 10 covered NFL stadiums in the US along with 8 MLB stadiums. Yes, hardcore racers will ride in anything, it's part of the roots of the sport, etc. But a SX mudder like this is usually a snoozer. And the AMA/Feld appear to be making a big push to grow the sport / viewership, yet what was on TV last night absolutely won't do that. Most fans are invested in the points chase and their favorite riders, but the average viewer might be more interested in a KTM mini race than a 10 mph 450 slopfest.
Oakland was cancelled last year due to rain, and San Fran got unlucky again this year. Obviously weather is generally unpredictable, but scheduling a Bay Area race in mid-January needs a re-think. Personally I don't care much about bringing in casual fans, just want to see good racing.
It really does not matter that we call it Supercross; because, it’s still just a motocross race. A race that’s raced by competitors on…
“DIRT BIKES”…aka Off-Road Racing Motorcycles…”Motocross Bikes”…etc., etc., etc.
Now that we’ve established those facts…
Let’s be real, the bikes are actually designed to be raced in that soup we call mud that was in the stadium last night.
How many of the bikes finished last night’s program…?
How many racers that started the night program and qualified for the mains finished last night’s program?
So…it seems to me the race was a success and it will be remembered as just another mud race.
My preference is there are no mud SX races, however I do like how unpredictable they are. It’s a shame the mud races trash the privateer bikes (bigger dealer than most will admit too)..
I don’t think the mud separate the boys from the men nor does it expose some special skill. I think there is a lot of luck at play here..
I don't know if I WANT to see one but it does throw some adversity at the riders. That was beyond a normal mudder though. The riders were all saying how brutal it was. They all had to race the same track though.
No it does not. The amount of luck involved is ridiculous. Just lock at the results 😂
Shimoda, Vohland, Trasher is by your standard worse riders than Yoder.
Mcelrath almost on the podium. You see that happening often this year?
A little bit of wet or muddy conditions ok, if they can jump pretty much all the jumps. Most riders had wheels on ground in the finals yesterday. You think that is supercross?
There is no supercross over two finals with wheels on the ground for all jumps but one small. That's supermotard and not what we signed up for here.
What’s funny to me is that the jumps actually turn in obstacles in mud races like that i.e. some that slows or impedes or prevents progress
Did he race last night? Or was he too busy pushing a 50 or 100lb wheel barrow?
It was wild to see who could navigate the track in those conditions. I sometimes stare at my phone while watching but I watched every second of that carnage. 1 a year is great IMHO. The dnfs suck but the anticipation of who makes it to the checkers is exciting and creates a lot of crazy scenarios for the rest of the season. Even though I love huge jumps I enjoyed racing in the mud once in awhile and actually kind of felt safer and more relaxed.
Pit Row
Regardless of who’s choice it is to be out there in the elements, the excess wear and, tear sucks for everybody.
Shimoda is fucked. Their season is not long enough to make up the point deficit. Really a shit deal.
I still say the 250 class should be 17 rounds.
Stop calling it luck. Shimoda crashed and thatcould have caused the bike problem. Vohland raped the clutch the same way Tomac has done it before and fried the bike.
The mud races takes skill to go fast and navigate the track in bad conditions.
And thanks to high compression race engines they become more fragile in the mud than a stock engine so the riders have to take care of the engine to.
So those things is not luck. BUT i would not say the RACING was great. Racing for me is when people switch places. Racing the other riders and the track, not rolling around trying to survive and then in the middle of it passes a guy that has stoped, tipped over or the bike has died.
I’m so confused; do we not like a track where everyone does the same rhythm sections exactly the same, or do we not like a track that challenges the best riders in the world?
Went from crying about no racing, how they’re racing to, the mud they’re racing in.
Wonder what’s next.
they should remove most of the jumps when they see it will be a shit show.. It would be better racing with less jumps when it is a muddy mess like this weekend. The riders would have more speed and make more passes and make better racing..
Now they just sit down and follow the ruts in between the jumps mostly and it's just boring to watch.
They chopped the triples down to doubles and cut a bunch of the jumps from the rhythm section. They have to keep some shit out there, though, otherwise it’s just speedway racing in the mud.
As always everyone has to race the same conditions, that said mudders especially in SX is like a coin flip, I feel for the guys who DNF due to bike or the conditions especially in 250's, 450's well it made the chase a lot more interesting and close that doesn't change the fact the racing was pure shit, my partner who wants to commit to her first SX season couldn't even watch it.
Anyway it couldn't have been avoided due to stadium, lets hope the rest of it is dry.
Let’s just ask for a flat, figure 8 track 😂
You should not training too much on groomed tracks bud.
My money would be on Friese.
Prado actually mentioned that in his post race interview with Vital. Said riding SX in the mud was much different and more difficult than riding outdoors as the track is so tight with so many obstacles that it’s almost impossible to build any momentum.
Post a reply to: SX should not race in mud like THAT.
