I remember meeting Art while walking the track the day before the very first Endurocross in 2004. I was looking the obstacles over and Art walked onto the arena floor and towards me and my buddy. I said "How's it going, Art?" and he came right over and shook my hand and said "Hey, it's great to see you again! I can't wait to watch you ride tomorrow!" Then he stood there and shot the shit with us for 5 minutes or so.

After he left us, my friend said how damn cool it was and asked why I never mentioned that I knew Art Eckman- I told him that I didn't know Art and that was the first time I'd ever met him.

What a great dude.

I was there.  They had had a small platform where Art had been interviewing riders.  I don't think he was supposed to, but after Rhino ended up winning the main, he rode his bike up on the platform.  Art thought he was going to get hit and leapt to the ground.  At the time, Art was in his sixties.  Taking a leap from 6+ feet in the air was quite a shock!  Art shook it off like the pro he was and just laughing it off.

I was lucky enough to work with him on a couple projects where he did VO for us.  He will be missed.  RIP Art!

Really sorry to hear this. As with many here, when I think back to my first forays into the sport as a kid (mid 90s), the unmatched commentary duo of Art and David are what standout the most in my mind. I would watch the races over and over, obsessively, able to damn near memorise every moment until I'd worn out the vhs tapes - especially the AMA stuff which felt leap yrs ahead in excitement compared to GPs. A big part of that was because Art could amplify any racing action to levels no one else could, his voice and timing were fantastic - and as we've seen since, it's a gift that most don't have.

An amazing life. RIP Art.

I remember him as an announcer on Atlanta TV station WXIA, and of course announcing supercross back in the day.

RIP

The thing about Art was that he came across as genuinely excited about the sport he was calling and what he was seeing unfold.

Nothing came across as fake or "manufactured".

Art, thanks for everything you did for MX and SX.

I sent him an email, telling him I would miss him being in the sx booth. Thinking he would never read it but I was being sincere. Next day email from him with nothing but humble thanks.

Thank you for the chat and all the great memories from the mic. RIP Art.

RIP Art. Loved him behind the mike for SX.

My first experiences with Art was back in the late 1970's. He was the sports guy for our local NBC affiliate. He must have liked moto back then because he would always do a little segment about the national and Trans AMA races at Sears Point on his sportscast. And he was the only sports anchor that would even give moto a mention at all around here. Always appreciated that. Art also used to announce my other favorite sport for ESPN - kickboxing. He did a great job there also.

RIP Art you will be missed.

Growing up in Atlanta I was able to hear a lot of Art Eckman and used to love watching his weekly show Moto World.

RIP.

I've always enjoyed hearing him when watching older motocross stuff. Watched some '96 125's earlier today and he was on there, really enjoy the content and his work.

Found the video, it was '97 Pontiac SX

Eckman popped into my head yesterday for some reason and again this morning. Oddly, he passed on November 4th. Its been 2 years since this Legend of motocross announcing was laid to rest. GodSpeed Art.

Can we get ai to voiceover the Supercross broadcast in Legendary Art's voice for '26 A1? That would be epic!
