Interestingly Lewis talked about this on the pod today. I guess they had planned to run ohlins but it didnt work out so theyre going with something else now. Its unfortunate they cant figure it out for pro sx/mx having another brand to go with would be pretty cool.
That depends on who you know, like I just paid under a 100 for timing belts and fitting etc. But yes running costs can be high if you just take to a main dealer.
Everyone that tries them always end up back on kyb or Showa. Back 10 years ago specialized sold the demo 8 with an ohlins on it, everyone immediately took those off and put fox or rockshox suspension on. Would be cool if they could figure out the off-road thing, the street bike and race car stuff they make seems to be dam good
all these foo foo Hodaka's being thrown out. come on, Super Combat.

That's not the MX bikes engine. Somebody posted a photo from that article in one of the Ducati threads. The one with the parts all spread out. Its a bigger displacement engine, not a 450. Cool to see some info and maybe the 450 engine will share some or a lot of the design from that engine.
A crash is a-coming. Just look at the car repo stats. Worse than 08
And we are not priced out of the game now?
I can't swing new bike. Or a new pickup or a new trailer or toy hauler. There is a lot of money out there. But 10-12 grand for a bike. 70-80 grand for a pickup, 40 and up for a toyhauler. $5 diesel. I'm driving a used 2018, riding a used 2017 and my trailer is a 2003.
Thankfully I own it all and I can repair it all. But even buying parts is spendy. I just pray race tickets stay affordable. I see the average price to watch the Rangers play against Diamondbacks is $1500. The high dollar tickets are out there. VIP used to be $100, I see them pushing $500 at several locations this year.
Go to minor league games, way more fun anyway.
I am definitely getting some Ducati swag
Did they announce their plans? ‘25 in MXGP, ‘26 in AMA SX/MX? It’s probably stated earlier in the thread…
Truckdriver,
I'd say we aren't priced out now, with current rebates on Kawis, picking up a new 250 for 8k isn't bad, but I've also never owned a brand-new bike. Every bike I've ever owned was someone else's bike that they had blown up, and I'd buy it from them and fix it because they didn't have a care in the world and just went out and bought a brand new bike. Hell, my current race bike is a 2015 250 Factory edition that has 170 hours on it. And it bought it at 150 hours where the previous owner grenaded the cases and turned the transmission into soup. 800 bucks later with ebay cases and a 350 SX-F transmission were going to the races for 3200 total.
But my point is that not a lot of people here are understanding is that I see Ducati coming in with a ridiculously priced bike, then IF it sells well the other OEMs are going to see that people are buying bikes for stupid money and slap a 14k price tag on a new Kawi or Yamaha for the same bike.
So true! A lot cheaper too.
This is great news. I have a 899 Panigale that I love. There's just something special about Ducati and I would definitely add a Ducati MX bike to my off road stable (as long as they make a 250).
They don't make unreliable bikes any more, and given the complexity of their V4's I don't think a single cylinder dirt bike is going to cause their engineers too many headaches. I predict this thing will rip and be twice as beautiful as any other bike on the start line.
They should begin with the Italian championship in 2024.
They are.
Any chance we see a little more of this bike at the EICMA show next week?

What's with the sensor cables on the clutch and brake levers?
Brembo do lever micro-switches, brake side for light or maybe ECU input/function switching . Their road bikes sometimes had clutch micro switches for allowing starting in gear or auto-blip prior to strain gauge/gear lever based flatshift.
Much less likely, but they do look vaguely like a lot of generic position sensors/potentiometers. Can't see how many wires they have unfortunately. Can't see much point to that but who knows, it seems to be going through the lever pivot, which is the only reason I mention that.
The brackets look hefty so may just be a testing/pre-production thing, but they do have similar switches, not sensors, on production road bikes.
Any thoughts on the little black canister? Vaguely looks like an old skool clutch fluid reservoir but obviously this is built into the lever next to it. Maybe not a gas/fluid canister at all?
Also, are they using a KTM throttle housing?
There's some interesting looking stuff on the handlebar for sure. Switches on both brake and clutch lever and round selector switch for different maps I assume
Been trying to figure it out since I saw the picture. I don't recall seeing any of those things on other race bikes.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
theres a video of the ducati supermoto bike on facebook page "motocrossmxgp" with Cairoli,,,,don't know how to upload it to here if anyone can help
I remember RV2 or someone had clutch sensor but it was on other end of cable not handle bars. They just commented that they will add that data to engine load data. Ducati MotoGP team sure has pretty good knowing about track data.
Ducati caters to the 1% with their streetbikes and the 450mx bike will be no different. It will be the most expensive bike on the market that comes stock with premium parts and an entire catalog of Ducati branded/Ducati affiliated aftermarket parts to choose from. This is their business model and their customers will happily pay for it.
I would agree although Lewis said on the pod that a lot of the reason for getting into MX is lowering the entry age to the Ducati brand - without it they will go the way of Harley Davidson….
This same philosophy of high price, a huge catalogue of higher priced ad ons probably wouldn’t work at a lower age range… targeting a 25 year old demo is a lot different to a 45+ year old demo like the rest of the Ducati range.
im intrigued by what they do…
Bit more to see here
That pic shows a lot more.
So they have an inline pressure sensor/switch in the clutch line AND a micro switch/potentiometer in the clutch lever pivot?
The brake lever pivot sensor/switch looks like a 4-Pin DTM connector so maybe dual function if it needs 4 wires?
Is this just testing/data collection clutter?
Anyone know what the green/black box is tied to the brake line?
Also with the extra clarity, the back can behind the clutch perch is obviously a rotary switch, map or traction level or launch RPM or something presumably?
Wish these pics weren't take with a potato, you could work out a lot more then... Guess that's why they're not HD.
The green connector on the brake line looks like a thermocouple type K connector, it looks like the green line goes down the brake line, possibly measuring brake pad temperature.
Which is totally possible, but also conflicts with the discussion that they want to compete in AMA pro racing, where the minimum quantity rules pretty much require a broader mass market bike.
