To think of all the shit that K DUb endured in his upbringing, and all the shit he accomplished afterwards.  Holy shit!…and his mom too!  Quite admirable,  His story brings tears to my eyes and makes me want to give him a hug; To tell it like that is brave AF… a mental health champion, hero, advocate…just all out rad dude!

I think the ping Matthes Kenny shows were some of the best early on ,  Shame ping and Matthes don’t get along anymore as they were good when on each others shows

I would give anything to turn the gain on David's mic down about 15%

Not managed a listen yet

Does it mention if KW and Matthes have any type of relationship now?

They were tight back in the day,Ping and Steve dont like each other,so for KW to move to Pings platform seems a big F You to Steve.

Cant wait to listen on this weeks commutes

Kenny called into pulp tonight, said he was getting a lot of comments like yours and it’s not. Just because steve and David don’t get along it doesn’t mean Steve and Watson can’t still be fine

Not sure if KW podcast "Inside the Rut" is still available but he did an episode with Ben Riddle on Ben's career and happenings in life after moto and it was insane. Such a good story.

The man's been through the ringer, that's for sure.

I wonder if his 'wonkey' left eye is a product of that sucker punch by 'One Hit' ?

Kenny's always been a hefty fellow, but seeing him in this interview, is a bit worrying .

**** Please Note : I'm not criticising Kenny in any way. As I go further into my 7th decade, with my injuries and illnesses making me ever more sedentary, I struggle with my weight. I keep it  (relatively) in check with my 3 to 4 piddly little midnight / 2 in the morning  ( it's far safer at night, there's buggerall cars and trucks around in my little suburb in the wee hours) 30k bicycle rides each week, and other exercise I can do, but it's ever getting more bloody difficult to keep the weight at bay. ****

I hope he is healthy, and can keep at 'it'. He's achieved a heck of a lot, and, helped quite a few people, from what I've read and seen of him over the years.

He seems to be a pretty good bloke, that, has done far  more good than bad  through his life, after being treated so, so dreadfully by some.

Yeah what was the final reason why Ping and Matthes don't get along at all? Politics? Does anyone have screenshots or pulpmx episode recomendations where things unraveled?

I like both Matthes and Ping, but both seem that they can be extremely difficult when you get on their bad side.

I’ve bagged on Ping for some of his pingness - but damn, he gets some good interviews. Right outa the gate KWs like my dad was a major heroin addict. Pings like dude?! I knew you had some issues growing up, but what’s this Synanon you told me about all about?  Looking at the expressions on Pings face. He just leaned back and hit record. Good job getting guys to open up and letting them tell thier story. And KW’s gotta feel alot better getting that off his chest and also knowing the industry has your back at least the response on Vital wasn’t near as bad as I feared. KW will always be relevant - The book would sell…… OG indeed

As I remember it , Steve has talked about it a few times , it started over money , Steve thought ping wanted to much money to come up and do the show  , and then politics came into it ,

Kenny and Matthes started Pulp together. Kenny lost interest and bowed out while Matthes kept building it up to where it is today. Pulp is a very polished platform. They stick to a schedule and have very good content. Kenny seems pretty shaky with his delivery and I don’t see this being a long live podcast. Kenny is motivated now but will he be six months from now?

Paul Linsey and Matthes started it together. Back when you couldn’t cuss and the show was mad uptight. Then Kenny came in and basically showed everyone how much better radio is when you’re loose and care free. The guy really helped 180 that show. It was pretty corny before he showed up and then it turned into something totally different and Matthes really fed off it literally and figuratively. They were a great radio duo really.
Kenny couldn’t stand that the shows were 5 hours from what I remember and you could count on him start to throw a fit around the 4 hour mark of every show like clockwork haha.

Kenny and Steve were gold. Some of the best episodes were when Ken couldn’t wait to gtfo.  I still go back and listen to those early episodes every now and then. I didn’t like OGkdub for a few episodes, but I came around real quick.

It was always a treat when he’d pop in after he left the show.  I wish he wasn’t such a stranger to the show now, but I’m glad he’s going to be doing something. Hopefully he sticks around longer this time.

I have to say - I apologize for every single negative thing I’ve said about Kenny.

The first 45 minutes of that podcast is exactly why you never fucking judge a book…..

With that said, even more incredible than the horror of his child hood, was to hear him talk about his daughters Step Dad….

The fact he was able to realize how blessed his daughter is to have another dad in her life that takes care of her is literally incredible.

KDub has officially won me over in the court of public opinion

I think you're spot on, the earlier shows when it was just Mathes and Linsey were a bit cringy and bland and I think that's the way Linsey wanted it. Then enter KW, turned that show around completely, went way off Linseys script and took it in a completely different direction and turned the pulp show into a MUST listen to show and Mathes ran with it.

Watson’s story about his childhood is crazy! I have a ton of respect for what he was able to get through and accomplish in his life.

Just finished it today, truly powerful story. I didn’t really know much or have an opinion on KW before, but props to you Kenny for telling your story with no holds barred. Early in the podcast he made a comment about the keyboard warriors might tear him apart for being so honest, if anything Kenny I hope this thread has shown you we aren’t all complete jackasses, no hate comms here! You are a survivor who has been through hell and gone on to do things most of us only dream about.

I have always loved KDub. He was mc’ing in the Indy pits and I walked over and waved at him. He quit talking walked over and talked me like he’s known me forever. Easily one of the coolest people I’ve ever met at the races.

As for Ping, I think the whole election thing and him starting a podcast went to his head, made a lot of douchey statements. But when Kenny opened up you could see the true Pingree come out. Honestly was pumped to listen to them. That was the Ping that Steve got along with. Really hope Kenny finds a way back into the sport on a bigger level, guy definitely knows the game.

I kinda forgot just how much cool shit H&H did as a team. I definitely remembered Blose’s Vegas ride when he brought it up.

Between the off road show and now OG Kdub, Whiskey Throttle has lured me in. Good stuff!

Heartbreaking listening to that first part of the show...      Proof of evil existing in this world. Sad

Then having a father like that stays with you the rest of your life...so damaging.    Good to see he recognized that he didn't want to be like that.

...and Ping.  Holy shit man, he nails another interview.     Haven't seen anyone better than him.

I've never met Kenny.  Once when he was cohosting with Steve they had Brian Swink on a couple years before he died.  You could tell he was struggling, both in life and even to be able to express himself on the show, and it seemed like Swink was trying to find a way to recapture a place doing something meaningful in the sport that he loved.  It was pretty painful and Swink obviously was not in a good place.  Kenny did nothing but try to help the guy voice what he was trying to get out, I imagine tried to do more off the record.  It's hard to relay how it felt like he recognized he needed to help Brian in that moment and he really leaned into getting him through the interview, and the compassion that drove that.  Such respect to him for that.

I never really knew much about Kenny until this interview...and doing a little digging. Hurts my heart that he had to endure what he had to as a kid, and how much baggage he had to carry. My hats off to him for what he did with H&H and in our sport as a whole. He seems like he's be a cool dude to hang out with too...and the stories he could tell.

If you grew up in this era you can relate o most of his stories. I grew up in corona and that was the Mecca back in those times. I remember all the awesome times out at white sands, railroad canyon before there were hours, glamis club metro and watching crusty a million times. Awesome podcast and brought back a lot of good times and memories.

I listened to this one for a second time which I almost never do with any podcast. Kenny is a good human being.

Its well worth the listen. I had no idea he grew up the way he did. I bet by telling his story publicly it will help in the never ending healing process he goes through.

Somebody else already mentioned it but I think the part of the interview that moved me the most was when he talked about having so much respect for his daughters step dad. I admire Kenny for this and you can tell he really means it, very heart felt.

On a lighter note, that horse riding/waterfall story was pretty funny.

HOLY SHIT!! I just started listening today and that is stuff that usually gets kept behind the therapist or group wall. I found myself  leaning on my pool brush and just listening. I've never heard anything even remotely close to this from anything in the industry. What a sad and amazing story.

I finished listening to it today. I hope someone shows him this thread, he brought up that he thought people would give him shit for telling his story but all I see here is support. Good to see him go through all of that and still come out the other side a decent guy

One of the best podcasts I have heard with Ben riddle. Very old but worth finding and having a listen.

Holy shit. Heavy stuff. I stopped listening to Pings stuff a while ago when he became an angry old man, but had to give this a listen because I always thought Kdub seemed like such a cool person. I had no idea about his upbringing, which makes what he has accomplished in life even more impressive. He's had every reason to become a deadbeat junkie, but has chosen to be a good and productive person and a great father. Hats off to Kenny.

That was a great interview. Absolutely transcends the sport. The true raw experiences that KW went through and his honesty was as real as it gets. A great listen to anyone who feels like they can’t be or do anything they want because of their situation. I’m glad he has his daughter as a guiding light and continues to beat his demons. I’m inspired.
