Who started throwing the big upside down whips first? I know I saw the fmx guys in the pioneer days were doing them but, somewhere they had to be inspired by a racer. Guy Cooper? McGrath?

Renner used to throw them upside and look down at the ground the whole time, sick style. I remember Adam Jones throwing one in 2001 at the ifma contest like that. The one rc threw beside McGrath was a big un too. I gotta watch that pros at play video again and see if Bradshaw threw one with the rear tire over his head. Ricky johnson, Bailey and magoo used to do them on hip jumps I think.

Renner won best trick with his whip over a backflip in the early days. I don't remember which contest it was but it was televised.

Speaking of big whips, does anybody have the higher-res version of this pic of Jeremy Lusk? I remember it was in an old TWMX magazine, but can’t find the actual pic anywhere on the internet. Remember being blown away by this one when I was younger.

Windham is the first that came to my mind for big upside down whips. Where you been Digger? You ride this summer?

Not the first to do it, but Billy Laninovich threw some nasty whips.

Guy Cooper as far as going upside down.

Stewart posted a video around 2006 of an insane whip on his home track. It seemed like that really pushed the limit as to how twisted a whip could be which seemed to open the door for FMX guys to evolve off of.

Stenberg was already throwing them backwards and Renner was already getting them upside down by then I believe.

Chuck was seriously under rated in the whip game.

Crappy quality, but this is an 06-ish photo, huge whip for the time

Here's some Cdn content:  Dusty Klatt in '05.  Photog lay on the ground as Klatt passed over, which shows just how side-ways he was.

In person it was Healey for me. We had a fun cliff jump with a bank up top at white sands that let you throw fun upside-down whips to the left.

I'm with you. When I was younger, I remember being blown away by Carmichael and Stewart's whip's.

I remember seeing this video in 2007 (I think?) And just being awestruck. I couldn't wrap my head around this being possible.

Cooper was doing this when most of these guys that were mentioned were in diapers.

I miss Josh Hansen, billy laninovich, and I remember grant Langston doing a twmx shoot with crazy whips. I think James hit some pretty big whips with n terrafirma in his segment.

Guy Cooper was the first person I saw get inverted, Magoo was awesome but Coop took it a step further. The progression since then is mind boggling..
