It seems that from now on, all MXoN will be in France, Italy, England, Belgium/Netherlands and USA, it's very sad, this event is like the Olympics or the Motocross World Cup.

There should be more variety of hosts, not only in Europe and USA, South America could be a good destination, Argentina has one of the best MXGP circuits (AND the best stage), in Brazil there is a lot of motocross fans, or South East Asia, Sumbawa (Indonesia) is also one of the best MXGP circuits, besides being the country where more motorbikes are sold in the world, I am sure that in Australia there must be circuits capable of hosting MXON, or if you do it in Europe, experiment in Portugal, Spain, go to the north, Finland or Sweden, or places like Greece, South Africa. .. The possibilities are endless.

On Topic: If Australia doesn't get a des Nations at some point during the Lawrence era, that'll be a massive fail on the Australian sanctioning body's part.

Aussie (or Nz ) can’t get the money from the government for a gp , let alone the des nations

Forgive my ignorance, but how come Hawkstone Park is never an option? And I'm sure Donnington Park would still work for an MXoN.

Hawkstone is just far too small. Have you ever been to the Hawkstone International in Feb? The place is maxed out with maybe 15K people (just a guess), the parking gets full and it takes over an hour to get out of the track then. As cool as Hawkstone would be its just not up to scale of hosting an MXoN. The track is pretty narrow too and probably would get moaned about non stop.

Would be great and not disproportionate to Australia’s standing in world motocross in the last 15-20 years.

I’d think there are some challenges though.  If the numbers I’ve read for sanctioning fees are real then it would require significant government financial support; there’s no way that Motorcycling Australia would have that cash.

I also don’t know if we’d have the right track and facilities.  It would almost certainly have to be an east coast track; I’m not familiar with which ones may be suitable but some other Aussies on here would know better than me.

I have been but it was years ago. Didn't realise the numbers were that low. Certainly felt busier! Shame it can't work, it would be amazing to see an MXoN there.

Hawkstone is beautiful but where can 50k people stand to watch the track?

Donington actually sounds/looks awesome from a fan’s perspective and they’ve hosted before but I’m assuming they’re sticking with Matterly as it has more history and isn’t just a track inside of a speedway.

^ Hawkstone could raze the trees on that hill in the back and seating would be just like Ernee lol

I'll start by saying I love Matterley, and most GP riders call it their favourite track on the circuit too. Most also tell you it's 'excellent' for viewing. Yes: you can stand on the outside of the track up on the hill and watch most of the track from a distance. However, to me, that's not the best. I much prefer standing in the woods of Lierop hanging over the fence only inches from the riders, even though you only see a short section of track, that you can walk around during the day. Yes there are places at Matterley that you can get track-side, but I'd love to see some small improvements to get fans closer to the action (Luongo - lower advertisement boards too please!!).

A quick scribble, but a simple change to something like this at Matterley with a jump or two with a bridge underneath to allow spectators to get to the infield would completely transform it IMO (public access to all of the yellow highlighted areas). Thoughts?

Hawkstone has a single road in and out as access, and zero modern infrastructure.

Matterley is one of the best tracks in the world to watch a race, why would you want a man made track.

Matterley is 5 mins off a motorway, is in the south of England for Euro visitors for travel, and has tons of room round it.

I honestly thin Ernee is too small, my lad went , and basically the place was rammed to the point where you couldnt even move, Infront putting VIP round half the track made it a fucking nightmare.

I would like to see them do something different with Matterly. Allows some infield access like you showed there is a great idea, either way I’ll be there and supporting.

Hawkstone doesn't have the paddock size or infrastructure to hold a modern day MXoN.

Doddington Park is owned by Sir James Dyson and hasn't had any events there for years.

Agree on Ernee. I went to the MXdN in 2015 there and actually struggled to get anywhere to stand. We lucked out by climbing on some rocks adjacent to the start straight where we shouldn't really have been, but it was a seat and we kept it all day. Big part of the reason why I didn't go back this year.

The extra VIP they added for this year would have made it even worse I'm sure.

Trentino for sure has an amazing scenery. But the paddock, limited parking, and the surrounding area of the track can hardly handle a MXGP nowadays. Not to mention the roads around there are quite small - it's a nightmare after Sundays MXGP races to get out!
I think there is no chance to have a MXoN there, with the amount of fans and everything.

I really hope Steve sees this and implements it. This is such a great idea. I remember in 2006 you could get down by the quad and in the corner before the uphill triple. But getting on the infield would be amazing.

There's a world of difference between Donnington Park and Doddington Park. You know that, I'm sure, Rob.

I went to the 2008 MXdN. Flew in in a light aircraft from Denmark, with my relos. A bumpy flight, that somehow, I didn't throw up during. I'm not a good, or brave flyer in light aircraft. We then staggered across some fields to get to the circuit, in the dark. If it were East Midlands Airport where we landed, it must have been a bloody far corner of it!

With Matterley Basin existing, there's no need of a 'pop up' track in the middle of a Road circuit for the MXdN.

Not sure if it were a GP or an MXdN where a bike went into the crowd on one of the downhills at Matterley , but I think that may be part of why they haven't had 'in circuit' spectators points there for sometime?

Yes, Hawkstone Park is far too limited. And the suggestion by one here of chopping the trees down has to be a  joke?  Though it would be something to see a pack of MXdNers going up The Hill, that's for sure! Do they ever use The Hill nowadays?

I wonder what happened to the Isle of Wight GP track? Does it still exist? Done by the same bloke who did Matterley, I think. Most I've heard of with relation with regards to bikes and Wight lately are the attempts / plans to have a Real Roads Race there.

Matterley is genuinely one of the best tracks in the world, has a great pit area for all the teams, great viewing and a shit ton of room for fans, none of which Hawkstone has. Donnington doesn’t have anything over Matterley either as far as I’m concerned, there isn’t even a track there anymore

The IOW track was one of the best I've seen and the GP's had a great atmosphere. It set the benchmark at the time and blew away everyone who saw it. The nightlife was good too lol. A lot of expense and effort got ploughed into it and it showed, but I can't remember what got it closed down.

It was a pain to get to though with it being on an island, and an MXON would've been a logistical nightmare unfortunately.

Just no.

Not a single thing there other than a field.

There are probably 6 tracks in europe that can run it, and Matterley Basin is the only one in the UK.

Maggiora, Teuschenthal, St Jean, Ernee, and Lommel.

Latvia was good, but felt just like a GP with a bit extra, ( i saw someone else say the same) and didnt have the buzz.

Nowhere else has the space to fill with VIP and proper fans.

There have never been fans 'inside' the track at Matterley, it was Gajser i think who went in the crowd up the quad in EMX when he was on KTM , they moved everyone back since then.

Hawkstone Hill is used all the time, the track gets used all the time now, back in the day it only had the GP, a New Year Meeting, and a British Championship. and maybe one club meeting,

I raced the first schoolboy race there in 1978, and didnt get to race there again until around 1985, you could probably do 6 meetings a year there easily now.

I have commentated there a fair few times, but not ridden it since 2001 . May see if i can get a run round there next year.

Same with Farleigh Castle, it was a GP only track for years, now you could ride there 4 times a year , if you had the right bikes.

Donington is 25 mins from me, and even if they did a great track out of nowhere, i would still rather queue 3 hours to get in to Matterley.
