This editorial dive's a little deeper than most, giving context to Jett and Hunter's rise to the top of the sport. Well written and a good read.
Had a hard time getting past the title
Well written, yes. The title was a bit disengaging though, took me a min to get past it.
If you do get past that, you'll notice that it's simply a quote from one of his sponsors.
Alyssa over at ESPN did a great job. She invested several days with the family and conducting interviews with everyone involved. ESPN's coverage of Supercross/motocross has been relatively scarce since Roczen's feature. No matter your individual stance on Jett and Hunter, it's beneficial for the sport to see ESPN producing stories like this.
lmao why the hate on the Bieber?
its actually a pretty good analogy in all honesty. No im not being sarcastic.. Jett has the look of a rockstar type like bieber so it fits

For context, it didn't come from the author, it was a quote from Alpinestars athlete relations manager Jose Luis Calvo:
"On the bike, Jett is a champion, Red Bull guy, factory Honda, Australian accent, all the ingredients for a big head," says Alpinestars athlete relations manager Jose Luis Calvo. "Off the bike, he's down-to-earth, goofy, a little bit naïve. He's easy to sell to a non-motocross audience. He's the Justin Bieber of motocross."
It didn't come from the author, but they chose it as the title.
Yeah, I agree, it elicited an eyeroll from me initially, but like it was mentioned above - I can understand the comparison. Was glad I didn't judge the rest of the article by the headline.
Moto fans: I wish the mainstream sports fan understood our sport, moto would grow if it just got coverage.
Also Moto Fans: I hate when they write about our sport in ways that the average schlub understands.
#BeCoreOrEfffOff
Y’all need to get over the title and remember that this was written for sports fans, not moto fans.
Hilarious they can get real numbers but moto media can’t. Almost like if moto media had cohones to ask… they’d get the answer.
Before I come across as complaining to complain (my comment above), I am grateful to see coverage on a media outlet of that scale for our sport. It's all around a good thing, regardless of my thoughts on the title.
how did he race 30 year olds in emx 250 when the age out rule is 23?
I thought that line was pretty nice: "Hunter is on my hand because he's the one leading us through most things. We're always kind of following Hunter's guide."
No matter how much better he will be, or how much more he is going to win, it seems like he will always look up to his older brother.
Great family, nice article.
There wasn't an age limit back then. Then the age limit became 23, now it is 21 I think.
So yeah, him going 1-1 back in the day at the age of 14 at one round is some really impressive shit.
“Grow the sport, just not while we’re gatekeepers.” -The vets that buy new bikes every year with A-kit suspension to spin 5 laps a season.
That rule was implemented in 2019.
Best mainstream interview ever
I became a fan of the boys at Pala in '22. They were playing Cornhole under the rig awning. I mean...after quali and just before gate drop. If they weren't getting results I'd have thought they just don't take this as serious as they should. But moving fwd...I believe they are just supremely confident in themselves. However they go about it...it's working.
I have video of it...but no idea how to post it.
Pit Row
Really well written by Alyssa. Great reading.
While somewhat cringy to the Vital crowd, it’s a headline that will have much more appeal to mainstream readers.
Also I’m guessing that in large media outlets like ESPN the author of an article doesn’t have final say in headlines.

Shes not wrong, but its a bit of a shame its become the focal point. The article has great depth and doesn't "dumb down" any part of the sport, which is typical of most main stream media coverage. If people don't read past the headline, then they are missing out.
Yeah, I'm just gonna go with well written, which it very much is, learned more about the family dynamic & the things that make Jett tic than 2 years of message board drivel or the usual Moto journo sources.
The phrase ; 'want professional results ? .. then hire a professional' couldn't be more apt, terrific portrait of a story.
That kid is going to become the wealthiest star this sport has ever seen.
He has the look of a rockstar type? Not sure I see that
A modern rockstar. Pop star maybe. Most kids under 25 now days would look at a true 70s or 80s rock star and just think “Boomer”
Haha true! I'm old
Me too mate 😂
Bieber is a pop star not a rock star. There's a big difference.
Our sport is great as it is, who wants to be mainstream anyway.
