Green Light fail

I'm gonna relate this topic to your avatar. It's there and it's catching my eye. 

I think they should dim the leader lights though. They were a bit distracting once they raced in the dark.

If you need lights to identify who's leading then you're obviously not paying attention, I say scrap 'em.

I don’t really care about them, but noticed when one of the star bikes was leading from some angles you couldn’t even tell that a Yamaha was leading. Those bikes have very little blue anyways, and with the green lights it looked like a kawi for a split sec. If I was mr. Top dog at Yamaha I’d be bummed, but I guess monster is footing the bill and making them mostly black anyways so they probably don’t give a shit. 
 

I think it would be cool if the lights were the color of the respective brand.

They’re certainly not needed for these long tracks, but maybe not a bad thing for the 50s lap times we get in SX?

I second the idea of different colours for different brands

Makes the leader look like he's riding a Kawasaki. 

Most ridiculous gimmick ever.

The superimposed graphics on the track are a close 2nd.

Does it help the flaggers and lappers know the leader is coming?

Helps fans, camera crew and lappers know where and when the leaders are coming. 

Keeps the audience more involved with something to see and that can change etc. 

It can only help the sport. 

Keep it. I do like the idea of color matching the bike tho. They will be more beneficial when they start lapping half the field. With all the bitching about lappers im surprised so many want to kill it. 

Those lights aren't for anyone reading this forum.  They're for the casual or new fan, especially those in the stands trying to follow the action.  It helps when these guys get into lapped traffic and can even help when you have team riders who all look exactly alike.  Similar to the digital numbers on GT cars that identify position because they run multiple classes of cars at the same time.  They would be really helpful for MXDN to identify the top guys in each class.  

I would also be a fan of the light color matching the bike but for now, it's a positive work in progress.

The lights were nice in Charlotte when you were watching other battles and would try to find the leaders again after they are mixed in with traffic especially in the 250 class where each team looks identical. 

Yes...for the "casual new fan".    The ones taking selfies and playing with their electronic pacifier who look up once every 4 minutes to see what people are cheering about.   The people that won't be back or watching on TV next week.  Let's keep dumbing down the sport for these people.

Truly....these lights are the dumbest "new advancement" yet.       We already have leader lights on the side of the track.

doesn't arenacross put a spotlight on the leader for the last couple of laps?? Why not just do that?

I was at the Chicagoland race and the green light was actually pretty helpful. It can be tough to see each end of the track depending on where you are sitting in the stands, so the light ended up being pretty beneficial when the riders were off in the distance.

Can the rider see the lights?

I feel that would be HORRIBLY distracting if I could see it.

I thought they were cool except I think I saw 2 leaders and the were blinking and/or half the bike wasn't working. Maybe theyll help lappers in supercross seeing the lights coming in an opposite lane...hard maybe.

I bet some of these teams put up a fight at first, you have riders testing the most questionable different things especially in the fork/clamp area. Then they add them add at least a half pound of shit to the front end lol. 

They are certainly battery powered no way the team is tying that shit into the harness on the bike.

On a long track like these its not as needed. But when You are at a race in person its not as easy to keep track of the leader when You are watching down by the track, or scan the pack back through to see how Your favorite riders are doing. Again while in person. I used to be able to pull up live timing without an issue at races on my phone. But the more recent races I've been to the cell service was slowed down to a crawl and trying to use the live  timing page was useless. That may have changed now, its been a couple years since I went to an SX in person.   

And if You have a Girlfriend or wife that keeps asking "who is winning"   Its pretty easy to say " the guy that has the lights on. Instead of saying the riders name, Then saying that riders number. And then having to explain where they are on the track and so on.

I think that they could finetune them some more. But I like the concept. 

Can we please stop dumbing down our sport. Makes everyone involved look like morons. Its 7 times as expensive to try and get new customers/viewers than it is to retain the ones you have. Why keep wasting time and money to keep our sport looking and sounding stupid?

edit: Let me double-down on this. If you don't know what color each brand uses, do some research and actually put some effort into gaining knowledge of the sport. We don't need to keep saying the color in front of the name of the bike. Same with the lights, if you can't read the leaderboard with all the information on it and look for the leader yourself, you're dumb as a rock. Just put some effort into learning about the sport for gods sake.

The lights are an  evolution of the Red  plates.  And the number one plate.  Is it dumbing it down? Or evolving? 

Do  You need a red plate to know who's leading the points? Probably not, but its cool to know who the current points leader is.  So why not have something to show who is leading the race?   I think that lighting the front plate itself up would be better. But that would require a little more work to setup.

Is it just the lighting up part that bothers You? Do You like the red plates concept?

At the race in "Chicago" it helped to keep track of the race order.  It helped while i was up in my nose bleed seats.  Worked well IMO
