Aussie riders and fans love the mxon. I can’t remember a rider getting selected and not going. It’s normally a fight over who gets picked.
can’t believe USA is in this position. Someone needs to tell the riders to pull their heads in
The AMA can afford to send a team...
In a recent interview Zacho said he'd do select outdoor rounds if there was a legit offer or even go to the MXoN if there was a team that would support him! Fuck it, put him on a Husky 250.
Exactly, no need to raise ticket prices

So, where are we at?
Barcia, Plessinger, Hampshire…?
That would be a decent team with some dudes that love to represent.
But it sounds like we are at:
Plessinger - Hampshire - Nobody
From the blurb today in Racerhead:
What we know is that the only OEMs really focused on participating are Honda and the KTM Group. The problem is that two of Honda's riders will ride for Australia, and if Jo Shimoda were on the team, he would be riding for Japan. And Chase Sexton is switching teams, though Honda did say they would support him through the October 7-8 race in France, only to have that apparently fall through. Many thought Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team would be sending Haiden Deegan on the 250, and maybe even Cooper Webb on a 450 (and support Dylan Ferrandis to France). But now they are completely out, having told the AMA's Mike Pelletier that they were not participating in 2023 (and Ferrandis was not selected as a member of Team France). And Kawasaki seems to have reached a point where they are not sending anyone either, despite both Jason Anderson and Adam Cianciarulo both being healthy, as well as the 250 riders on the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki squad. Kawasaki's problem appears to be threefold: the FIM, the cost of sending their riders and mechanics and engineers, and what appears to be some reluctance with working so closely with Team USA Manager Roger De Coster.
That has not affected De Coster's own interest in the event, nor the Austria-based KTM Group's interest. They are fully committed to sending both Aaron Plessinger on his KTM 450 SX-F and moving Husqvarna rider RJ Hampshire up on the second 450 in the MX3 (Open)slot. They also planned on sending Max Vohland as the 250 rider, but now he's switching teams too after SMX and he has backed out of Team USA consideration as well. That kind of only leaves Jalek Swoll for MX2, but he's also about to switch teams, and his new bosses don't want to risk getting him hurt without some kind of insurance policy. So how about Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/GasGas rider Justin Barcia? He apparently has some injuries he wants to get sorted in the off-season, as soon as possible. Christian Craig? The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider would love to go but he's still not 100 percent.

==========
If you get Plessinger on the KTM450 and move Hampshire up to the Husky 450 need a 250 rider that isn't on a Yamaha or Kawasaki it seems.
Vohland, Swoll, Barcia and Craig are all supposedly not available or don't have support for their teams.
Pierce Brown, Tallon Hawkins, Dillan Schwartz, Caden Braswell? Carson Mumford on some KTM group bike as a fill-in? Garrett Marchbanks, Grant Harlan, Ty Masterpool, Phil Nicoletti? Need to go pretty far down the list once you start eliminating half of the manufacturer's support. Not a good look for the team USA effort.
This is an insane question but I’ll ask it anyway because it seems like we’ve arrived at this point… do the rules require us to send three?
Edit: If Honda & KTM are really about it and we need a third, what would stop a privateer (say Jimmy D) from showing up on a fundraiser plane ticket and slot under the factory tent?
Tallon Hawkins might be the best option
At this point...I'm %100 behind whatever team we send. Better to get your ass handed to you than than not show up at all.
Leaders lead...they may not always win but they don't shirk.
Boy Dungey really should’ve came out of retirement this year. He could’ve most likely had an early season podium plus he could’ve saved the day and been on Team USA one last time
Tell Roger you will be happy to go, if he provides the bike!
Pretty embarrassing.
Complete cluster fuck
Send Nicoletti or Marchbanks on a 250 or 450, or is ClubMX out too because of costs?
Put RJ on the 250 and Marchbanks on the 450 and AP and let her eat!
DAXTON BENNICK
PHIL NICOLETTI
GARRETT MARCHBANKS
Put Dante Oliveria on one of these 450’s with Plessinger and RJ. Ryan Surrat on a JCR Honda, Austin Walton on a Rockstar Husky,or Cole Martinez on a SLR Honda. There’s plenty of fast dudes that will give it 100% and represent well.
Pit Row
This is ridiculous. Makes me not want to buy a Kawasaki or Yamaha again. If they won't support US riders why should I support them?
This is absolutely pathetic and sad. Nothing more to say. Unreal.
It’s pretty bad when Puerto Rico is sending more Americans than America.
It would seem to me, that with no American team, the significant s of the race is watered down. Also lots of talk about the cost being a factor. So, why tf doesn't the promoter (fim?) who's collecting the revenue from the event, kick down. It's ridiculous to think they collect revenue from everything from ticket sale, merchandise, TV. packet, etc.. But the guys putting on the show, are supposed to ride for free and pay their own way.
Luongo should be offering support for the Americans and Australia too. Those two nations are the only difference between MXON and a normal MXGP. The manufacturers have budgets, mechanics and personnel need time off, and spending another 50-100K on a race that adds little benefit (also not part of the budget) is not a good business decision. The promotor is making a fortune on this event and much more if we are there. They should be helping and if they were, I believe the manufacturers would be all in.......along with DeCoster being replaced. I get the America Pride and feel it is there if was at least free to go.
That is not a strong amount of assets when talking national level operations, not to mention we have no idea of their liabilities.
I’m just embarrassed for us now after reading this 😂
Fuck yeah. France won it with an off road dude once.
Dante rips.
Both team rosters are a mile wide and a mile deep. Gotta pay all of those guys.
They can give whatever reasons that they want but they’ll never come out and say they’re skint if that were the true reason.
Regardless of that though, I don’t think having a larger team does anything to make it any easier to justify sending just one bike overseas for just one race. Just the reality and I hate it.
There's no excuse. Kick down? To a team from a rich country? Sure that would be nice and might even make sense, but a lot of guys racing this event from other countries are much worse off then us and we don't hear them crying.
There could have easily been better planning, a fundraiser, etc. done by the AMA, MXSports, whoever, to get our team there IN STYLE, but nothing. Pure laziness if you ask me.
Our entire MXdN program needs better people overseeing it.
yep.....matthes on point..
sounds like having roger managing the team is becoming a liability.?
will be cheering for team OZ ...but i am pissed off about Team USA not being a priority for some teams/riders so imagine how you yanks are feelin.............
I bet eli wld be going if fit.
yep with their national championship fielding at least 50% of the best riders on the planet its gobsmackable that repping the USA is NOT a priority?
happy AP and RJ are both (potentially) going anyways ....they will both bleed for their country and leave nada on the table!!!!!
deegan wld of been a great addition to the "event" also.
