IMG 1251I see so much about no clutch now? I coached Jet and Hunter that exersize of no clutch was only for back brake feel but clutch must be used when the throttle rolls on.

Different styles.

Tomac goes through a clutch every 2 practice motos.

Roczen said he only goes through 2 clutches per season.

I'm way too easy on the clutch (haven't replaced it in 18 years), but I'm always in the power band.

Serious question: If you're in the power band, what advantage is there to using the clutch when the throttle rolls on?

The guys I ride with who race tell me traction. I personally would not know as like you I have never even bought a new clutch 🤔

Formula one car heads to the corner, push the clutch and hit the hand brake😜, even the wife can brake without  locking up as the abs system stops wheel lock up

Some decades ago, Gary Bailey had a few articles in Dirt Bike magazine about riding techniques.

The one about Clutch work, revealed that Clutch use was not just about 125s and 250s.

He emphasized their use on 500s. As in, Control. Not for bringing the engine 'up' into the power, but in controlling the power. At it's most basic, he said you could better control the rampant power of a 500, with the clutch : with a finger on the clutch, it was more of a natural, and easier reaction to close your finger(s) than it was / is to be able to roll back the throttle.....

I can attest to that.

When Rekluse's came out, I fitted one, purely because I could no longer use a rear foot brake. I used a double height foot levers that I had made for years, but it became  just too difficult, and unsafe to keep trying to use them. I fitted a Rekluse  Only to have a LHRB.

But, the first Rekluses, for my old beastie, well, you deleted the clutch lever. I had a couple of Big Whisky Throttle scares on the 500 that I luckily survived, and when the Pro model came out, I was able to fit a little clutch lever just above  / inwards of the LHRB master cylinder, as the Pro gave you  an almost effortless, well limp,  clutch pull. I still use the old Pro model, though one day may well get the latest type.

It’s funny, you hear “ no need to use the clutch”  on 4 strokes, but when you go to a National, all you smell is burned up clutches👍….

Metering your acceleration and getting faster acceleration...also it frees up the rear shock so you don't get anywhere near the jackhammer pounding from acceleration bumps

Recall back in the seventies, one Kent Howerton  (1976 500 Champion) was constantly coming out of a corner a gear high and fanning the clutch. Besides some absolute destruction of berms, the wheelies and style was impressive!

Some control speed/power/traction/acceleration mostly with the throttle. i.e. Roczen

Some control mostly with the clutch. i.e. Tomac, Barcia, Deegan

and some use a little of both. I.e. Jett

pick you poison. Personally I am a clutch guy , tried to get away from it when I got on 4 strokes but tickling the clutch often had/has been burned into my brain.

What I taught Hunter more so than Jett was to chase a gear change when the bike stands up straight so if it starts to power slide while chasing it then engage clutch so slightly to stop to much power slide but don’t engage it fully and cut out drive but don’t use it breaking. Dazza and Hunter helped me with Jett

My clutch finger twitches a bit coming out of corners when I’m walking in the mall with my wife.

This forum has been on a steady downhill roll for a while now but it's not because of the Aussies that I can see. It's from the argumentative trolling dipshits that have come out of the woodwork now that there's no GuyB to put them in the corner where they belong.

So, Why not just control the throttle?  For most people is it that much easier to control the clutch than the throttle?

Note: I should've read the other posts before posting.  Some use throttle, some use clutch, some both.

I guess I'm throttle guy mostly, but use the clutch as needed.  I just try to always be in the power band, then power shift.
