Is nobody going to bring up the video Josh Hill just dropped?

He rode it for an hour and 15 minutes on full power, still had 24% battery life left.

Raise your hand if you can ride as hard as Josh Hill for an hour 15….

I don't care if they lasted 3 hours on a charge, so I guess you could classify me as an Electric MX bike hater, because listening to that awful whiney noise they make and then hearing Ken Roczen at 1:12 into this video going through the whoops and listening to the rear wheel slapping around is pure awfulness. They look cool, but I'll NEVER! own one, because I don't want to ever be grouped in with the Soy Latte drinking Woke crowd that is pushing this Electric everything agenda.   Can you imagine a gate full of these things at an AMA National.  Good way to kill the sport.

How are electric cars/bikes now included in the "woke" stuff? Honestly? My aunt was saying the same shit at a family get-together the other day and even she couldn't pinpoint why it's a "woke" thing. My family is full of hillbilly loving dirtbikers and we all can't wait until the battery tech catches up and we can start replacing bikes and other things with electric motors. Some things make no sense (I can't mow my parents 3+ acres of grass with an electric riding mower) and long distant vehicles. But idk...my uncle is from Missouri and put an electric motor in a Ford Ranger. He hates the "woke" stuff.... I don't know.

It's probably because the loudest people on the EV side constantly talk about how they are so much better for the environment, we need to outlaw ICE vehicles now, everyone must go electric, etcetera. The people for "free choice and get what is best for you and your situation" are usually pretty quiet and let everyone do what they are going to do.

Edit: Also, if you look at who is pushing the electric/green thing it tends to be the left.

Yup... the "save the environment" Kool-Aid.       You expect this with the Euros....but to see it here in the US.  The willingness to go along with this BS is the stuff of legislators wet-dreams.

...the endgame is to kill off-roading all together.     ICE elimination is just one domino in the game.

The war has been waged since the 70's and we are losing.    For those who are oblivious...look up Phantom Duck of the Desert.

Lol. Dude if Honda made one of these you’d be crusading broadcasting it worse than all the Varg fanatics combined.

I think it is just timing, also probably depends on where you live.  When the world is already depressed, and you have people cramming electric down your throat, any mention of electric is going to drive anybody mad.  In many places (mainly coastal states), they are trying to take away your choice to drive/ride/mow/whatever and tell you what you can and cannot use.  Call me what you wish, but that is a loss of freedom with every choice we have taken from us, it really is un-American no matter how you view it.

When you have folks here that won't shut up about them (example, three posts down here), it feels no different than folks telling me I am going to have to replace all of my ICU vehicles for electric, it feels forced, I am being told I am going to be taxed into needing EVs, and it honestly sucks donkey balls (thus, the folks drawing political distinctions, we have had enough 'forced' to last a lifetime).  These electric bikes are intriguing, I am betting they are fun, and in my seat, I have massive issues with my hands (arthritis and CTS), I am betting an electric bike would notably improve my riding comfort and duration.  But with the way folks are treating them as the holy grail and anybody who disagrees or is skeptical as a fool, it kills interest, it feels political, it feels like the same old BS we have been dealing with for way too long now, very divisive.  But hey, someone feels cool and I know to quote one member here, 'smarter'.  They could be amazing to all, but with the bandwagon, it feels like a 2 wheeled Prius.

I have seen RC racing go from nitro to electric gracefully (both options still available), I wish the world was still spinning the right direction, we would not be having this discussion here.

I don’t think anyone is questioning these bikes. They’re bad a-s imo and it would be cool as he-l to have one. But are we really gonna be able to afford these things? Heck, they’re super hard to get and they’re freakin expensive. By the time any other OEMs get one produced these thing are gonna be pushing $15k plus. Heck with taxes and dealer costs, it’s already close to that.

The big difference I see between the push for electric cars and the Varg.  Is that Stark is pushing the performance aspects of electric. I see it more similar to the RC car industry than the real car's .

Indoor tracks , tracks in shopping plazas', backyard tracks without pissed off neighbors. High amounts of power that can be controlled, super easy to tune and work on, a learner mode so Your not running at full power right away .  Those are things that Electric HAS done for RC. And could also do for MX.

Everything becoming political is so insane. Whats next, Red and Blue becoming right and left colors like gang colors?  Who agrees 100% with anybody on anything?   People can become lifelong friends  just sharing 1 thing in common, Motocross brings people of all ages and areas together.  Why can't people focus more on what they have in common and agree on than what they disagree on?

As far as Varg's and electric MX bikes go. If You dislike them, why not just stick to reading about the stuff You enjoy instead of posting the same tired BS comments in every thread? A legit concern to me is different from just disliking something because somebody else likes it.  The range thing is much more complicated to give a solid number on . And one that will only be answered overtime.  Just like when people went from horses to gas powered vehicles.   I love the idea of electric powered MX bikes. But I'm still not totally sold that Stark ( or any company) will do everything they have said they want to do . I lean towards thinking they will, based on the owners past.   I know there have to be downsides to the Varg. Legit ones, not that a politician might like it better .And if there are not any besides the obvious runtime, cost, weight and charge time. In 5 or 10 years those things will not be issues anymore and gas MX bikes may be like horses. Still around, still racing, but not the elite level transportation they were.

I really thing that they will come down as more bikes are able to be electric.  I've said it a bunch already. But a company like Honda could use the same motors over a large range of vehicles. Cars, motorcycles, atvs, utvs. And develop a powertrain system that could be scaled up or down by adding motors, and battery capacity.

I think that Stark is going to do just that. They have said they wanted to start with a 450 MX bike because it is at the top of the performance scale for motorcycles . Then take that motor ,battery, controler , maybe frame. And build street bikes off it. commuter style bikes like the ones that get bought up by the 100,000's of thousands.  Then use software to tune the power down.  If You can make a motor/trans,  battery and controller that works across many models it reduces costs to build.

Then if a company like Honda comes in and builds a power system that can be used across an entire range of vehicles their cost comes down even more.  The future of MX bikes could look a lot like EMTB's with motors, controllers and batteries made by a few big companies and then chassis  built by multiple brands.  Gasgas EMTB's have Yamaha motors in them.

I could see a world with Honda, Bosch ,  Yamaha and Stark offering powertrain's to smaller OEM's that want to build bikes. And full sized EMX bikes following the EMTB model as well. with models starting at $ 6K for a brand new electric MX bike , and going up to $15 or $20 K . All sharing the motor ,controler and frames.  Offering upgraded suspension, battery, etc. Maybe even a bare bike model that is a bike without a battery. Or perhaps offering chassis only options if the motors and controllers end up lasting 1000's of hours. And You would swap Your motor into the new chassis as a less expensive option.

Meanwhile Talaria and Surron are kicking out real world e-bikes that are only getting better and are under $5k.

I love Topgear, and the Grand Tour. And Jeremy Clarkston is a funny guy. But I would not call him an expert on electric vehicles and nothing he writes or does is ever intended to be taken seriously.

Nothing is perfect. You could make the argument that if somebody was still  riding a horse ,that a horse has the chance of swimming and surviving while a car will just sit there and drown.

I said it in jest but it seems a simple statement threw you for a loop…keep at it though, your are killing it just like Electric motocross bikes are. Forever growing!

Whew that’s a lot of stuff. Sounds like you’ve stayed up late at night thinking about it lol. Let’s not get our rose-colored glasses on just yet. And the price won’t go down. Just as much as inflation won’t stop, and you probably won’t get a raise big enough to keep up with it.

Remember how much a 42" LCD/Plasma/led TV  used to cost when they first came out?  A single Samsung factory that built blanks  at a bigger size was what started the prices to drop.  Bigger blanks, more screens per blank. Everything has a screen these days and prices dropped because of it. You can still buy expensive TV's. But You can also buy a 42" flat screen for $100 on Black Friday. They used to be $3 or $4K when they first came out.  But a higher demand for more blanks allowed them to build more factories that could produce larger blanks, and screens are used in just about everything now.

All it takes is one company to do it and the others would have to follow or be put out of business. Electric vehicles take way fewer parts and those parts take fewer machines, processes and steps to produce.   Right now a company has to spread that cost out over 1000's of bikes. Scale that up and Your cost per bike goes down. Anton said the  materials in a Varg, raw materials cost about 500 euro's. It is the converting of raw materials into the bike that most of the cost comes from.

Meanwhile, I hear that french pro David Herbreteau, despite several holeshots, couldn't finish his motos at the "Rookies Cup" (kind of the french Loretta Lynn's) without his Stark going into "security mode"...

Wasn't there, don't know much more. His Instagram states "4 holeshots out of 5, fast laps and fun", and it seems he ended up 13th in the Open class...

Maybe he didn't have the Hill settings...

Hill spends half his time in the air, no power used while airborne!

I will probably get proven wrong on this but I predict this bike never races in AMA SX or MX.

Considering nobody but a chosen few will have one near term.  I’d have to agree on this bike not hitting AMA or SX.  If it was real the first to review would have been a major publication.  Not a bunch of fanboys !!!!   Not saying another Cannondale but  maybe another drive an F150 EV across America.

Lol. I don’t doubt it’s real and it looks like a high quality machine. It’s just a little ahead of its time. Time will tell, but the economy is working against it.

“Last 2 Stroke”.

Interesting username to be so anti ICE.

I'm not anti ICE or anti electric, I'm anti hypocritical people who post pictures of electric vehicles on fire, but don't acknowledge ICE vehicles also catch fire!

I love my 2 stroke, it puts a smile on my face every time I ride it, but I can also see the appeal of the Varg, like every other bike, it has good points and bad points.

47% are caused by mechanical failure or malfunction, 21% are caused by electrical issues...

I will probably get proven wrong on this but I predict this bike never races in AMA SX or MX.

AMA's rules are controlled by the AMA's Board or Directors, who are made up of OEM manufacturers who have corporate headquarters in the US...

Why would these manufacturers let Stark race the Varg in AMA Supercross or AMA Motocross?
