If I’m full of shit I’m sure you guys will tell me, but doesn’t Jett seem more dominant on the 450 vs the 250? After watching Hunter get pulled up hills more than once by other 250s this year, I wonder if the Honda 250 is not as good of a bike as their 450. Stewart even commented of how the PC bike was pulling Hunter and the Star bikes seem even faster. Both Jett and Hunter won on them, but are they just that good? It might be a Hunter, Jett, Eli, Chase battle when Hunter moves up.
Yes seems more dominant on a 450..

I think he could get on any OEM 450 and be dominant.
I wonder if they’ve tuned the 450 to be a torque monster to suit his riding style?

He sure doesn't have any trouble getting on top and surfing.
I think I recall someone saying that the Honda 250 is visually slower than the Yamahas and if you can see it visually then the difference is substantial.
Might have been DV12 that made the comment...or I could have been hallucinating.
Probably the first time someone said "I'm a better 450 rider" and it actually rings true, though I don't know if he ever even claimed that...

yep..jett no longer at a HP disadvantage to some other teams.............also more depth in 250's recently.

I thought Jett was an average to bad starter on 250s. That clearly didn't transfer over to 450s. To me that means the bike was holding him back. How many times can we watch the Star team start 4 guys in the top 6 and not come to the conclusion that bike is a lot faster off the gate? The PC bikes seem to be the next best off the gate.
Keefer regardless, the HRC 250 is well down on the Star bikes. It might measure the same peak number but Hunter is getting out accelerated.
The Honda 250 is a great bike, and their bikes have been good since Honda took over the program.
Every team is down on power compared to the Star bikes, especially the PC bikes, and it will continue until a manufacturer figures out a new intake design
Jett is simply a better rider on a 450, than a 250 because of his ability to ride low in the RPMs, and how the bike reacts to it.
After watching Jo pull him going uphill during one of their battles, it looks to be down on power to even the PC bikes. The announcer (Stewart or Carmichael) even made mention of it. Hunter is just riding the wheels off of it!

His starts are what’s insane to me. Always in the top 3 at the line and usually 1st by the next couple turns. He was never that good at starts on a 250. Hard to beat a guy that’s as good as he is and starts that well.
My thoughts exactly. His style suites a 450 perfectly.
I think Keefer was just being nice. He also said "except the Star bikes", or something to that effect.
Jett is also a bigger kid, so that also played a factor in the 250's.

Watch this vid, Matthes and Keefer get to ride all the HRC bikes. Yes, his bike is tuned to be very smooth.
Jett's a taller rider, but he is also very thin...still light. Probably weighs the same as the other shorter riders.
This 100%. Honda knows their small bike is down on power and they've tried searching high a low for more. That's why they were the first to have the electric water pump. It could also be reason why Jett blew up his bike last year and Hunter this year, they're trying to get everything they can out of the engine which leads to the reliability taking a hit. Since Jett is not at a HP disadvantage now he is more dominant, and his starts are on point.
Maybe HRC needs a better 250 development engineer and program.
They are getting hosed in a straight line, blowing up and seem peaky.
You're right he is lean but I believe he is still almost 170lbs, which is heavy compared to a lot of the 250 guys who are closer to 150-155lbs.
I think I remember reading somewhere that every 5lbs lost was equal to 1hp on a 250.
Mike Sleeter used to say that the last gen Honda 250 was slower than a ktm 150 two-smoker. Handled great but slow as hell
They literally just won five 250 titles in the last two years of racing. Lol. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the bike is decent.
That's a darn good question for ML or Lewis to ask during every interview. Height and weight...and do they have problems maintaining that weigh or are they trying to gain/lose. Diet? I'm a nosey fugger...I wanna know.
Also worth mentioning as far as "doing better on the 450," there have been multiple riders switch from 250 to 450 class midseason this year just because the field was weaker in 450s.
Have any of those riders done well? Say top 5-10?

Yes. Two of the riders who are top 10 in the 450 mx point standings are guys who moved up from 250 after the outdoor season began (and are doing so despite having fewer 450 races to acquire those points). So Jett is certainly not alone among guys who are "doing better in 450"
