I suppose you'd have to take that up with the AMA.  Laughing

I'm actually surprised there are never any claims in the Vet classes, you know there are some bad ass bikes rolling around out ther.

Some of the people involved in last year’s debacle are friends and I’m certainly not in the “Anti-Deegan” camp; but, damn…the way the claim went down…or “didn’t”…was disappointing, to me.

For all those involved, here’s the problem:

Perception…&/or…Appearances…ARE reality. And the reality is…Intimidation and Manipulation were employed to prevent someone from his rightful claim to a bike.

That’s how it plays out…in the end.

The attempts to attack the character of the claimant and his group are further embarrassments for me and my sport.

I’m hopeful that we’ve learned from this, as a community, and the next time this plays out, I hope we simply “go by the book”.

Signed,

A racer from the inaugural LL’s that loves this sport.

Must think we all have the memory of a goldfish.

That’s simply Tim’s roll as the Amateur Racing boss & MX Sports LL’s management. But, you’re right in that it reminded all of us of what went down last August.

Look, Tim should have managed the claim differently & he should have ignored all that “outside influence”. He had soooo much ranting & people making noise in his face…that he should have pushed aside and just managed the claim according to the rules. I‘m hopeful that they’ve learned from this and that the teams have been warned.

We’ll see.

Just fyi, Tim had absolutely nothing to do with managing the claim

The factories force their hand, and said, make the claiming rule go away, or we’re not coming.

He shouldn’t have been involved at all then.

I hope so,  and I hope the powers at be handle it better than last years,

the factory backed teams are taking the piss out of this rule,  which is a good one,  if its enforced,

Your statement has probably more reality than you know. I was actually sitting at the next table over from Cotter when he was smoozing with a state senator and his wife at a race they were invited to. Cotter IS a politician of the corporate race world for sure.

But the backlash from the public was monumental, still is to this day. If there ever was a time to do a claim, it's this year.

You might get a bike but you are done with future sponsorships, you will be attacked on Social Media, even your business might be threatened.

They "act" like it's there to keep things somewhat equal.  It's always been a scam and last year proved what a joke it is. That entire situation was pathetic.

I'm sure they stressed in the riders meeting that without exception any bike could be claimed as long as the claimant had the finances and paperwork in place.

I'm also sure that the moment a factory bike gets claimed there will be a full court press to assassinate the claimant's character by anyone involved with the claimee's bike.

Claim =/= Protest

I think some people get these confused.

So if Tim had nothing to do with the claim, why did he make Brennan go in a room with Deegan to discuss the claim? Either way you spin this it makes everyone of you look bad. You're digging a deeper hole.

Claiming is a common rule in motorsports.  In the 90s racing stock cars, there'd be guys claiming motors at local races (I assume it's still the same). It wasn't unique and although it would create a buzz in the pits, it wasn't frowned upon.

Common in us.

in the rest of the world we just write clear rules about what’s ok to do or not.

the claiming rule is just pure BS, we all know that the top amateurs run ”factory bikes”, so it’s clear that the claiming rule don’t work.

Refer to my first post in this thread.  Poor guy, claim his ride no sweat....  High profile guy's ride, refer to Cotter.  Rules will adjust as we go.....

1. Not sure why you're trying to turn it into a US vs row thing. This thread is about a race in the US.

2. The reason it hasn't worked is because the factories are willing to bully people exactly the way it went down. Otherwise claiming is very effective.  Ive seen it in car racing.

3. Claiming doesn't replace the rule book. It helps out with enforcement.  Just curious, does wherever the hell you're from, always have officials that are tearing down motors to enforce compliance? That gets hella expensive.  And I'm not talking just a huge national.

Yeah your future in the sport is done unfortunately. If last year taught us anything, seemed like the entire industry was pretty much on the same page as far as black balling Brennan.

Maybe I'm crazy but I think the overall attitude on this has changed. Too much social media and negative press to blacklist or bully someone these days. Sure you might burn a bridge or two, but if you're fast most of the other manufacturers and sponsors aren't going to care either way. The outrage that it produces in some is a pretty good indication that the rule needs to exist. Wish it was a frequent enough occurrence that people just accepted it and moved on and kept it in mind when building their next bike.

Claiming a bike has nothing to do with cheating. You’re thinking of a protest. Pinch

They should not have a "claiming rule", it just makes drama , for the sewing circle crowd.

See AMA Pro Racing, they had it ...........then they did not.

Thank you
