Its a huge difference from watching the MXGPs to watching AMA, the one thing i notice is that Paul Malin doesnt try to sell you anything. He lets you decide which bikes doing well. He hasnt even one time mentioned that Febrvre is on a 24 KX prototype. If it was in AMerica, they would be saying "oh man everybody better be worried about that new Kawasaki next year". I hate media and i want to form my own opinions. just present the facts and let the people decide. Carmichael wont shut up about Star yamaha, and he made a lot of money from them hmmmmm. how is he going to remain partial about the new Triumph? i cant see him criticizing it when he supposedly did the development.

He's an absolute beast. He commentates on the Junior World Champs as well, getting the names right for the riders in the 65cc and 85cc classes. He's definitely got a few trademark sayings. "All of a sudden..." and "lighting the back end up" spring to mind. I honestly think he's one of the best to ever sit behind the mic.
Malin is doing great. Just perfect.
This thread is sure to end in tears
There are so many aspects to being a great commentator. From having smooth delivery, knowledge of the sport, to the little details about privateers nobody has heard of. I believe he's the most well rounded commentator I'VE ever listened to. We're lucky he's involved! Cheers PM.

Cheering on Malin is the only thing I like about this thread.
I just wish he would explain what a tear-off or roll-off is!
He single handledly ruined the ama racing for me. He’s so much better than the ama announcers that he makes listening to them cringe worthy and difficult.
they drone on and on about talking points instead of covering the action.
malin makes it feel like formula 1 level racing, while the ama guys make it feel like a monster truck carnival type attraction.
Malin calls the race. Maybe because he rarely has anyone to chat with.
He's on another level but we can appreciate him without knocking the US guys. Saying that as someone from the UK.
1. He’s a natural (not saying our guys are or are not)
2. maybe the production team doesn’t force him to push narratives/drama
3. He rocks
And when he has he still does his job.
i really like when he and Emig team up at the MxDn.
One of his best lines👍
Now for an unpopular opinion: I can't stand watching GPs at all because of him. I can see why a lot of you like that he's just calling the action, but to me that is all he does- literally describing what he sees on screen. When someone makes a mistake, he points out that the rider makes a mistake. When someone crashes, he screams "ohhh!!! Rider has gone down". When a pass happens, he says rider a got around rider b. Etc., etc., you get the idea.
In AMA racing, the commentators do that too- don't get me wrong. But they try to provide a lot more useful insight. James is doing an exceptionally good job at that this year. When Chase tucks the front, he can quickly analyze the situation, point out exactly what happened with the bike during the crash and what posture or mental mistake Chase did that lead to the crash. Plus he often relates to himself in similiar situations. Of course it's always speculation and on some occasions the insights seem a bit far fetched, but in the end that makes the racing much more interesting to me than just pointing out what's happening on screen.
Sounds like a boring golf commentator. How long has he been in the job? 20 years? I mean some people think the old progrip logo is a classic too.. but the reality is no one is up to date and no one cares.
I like how he will sneak diss the tv production crew when they are not showing the action/battles on the track.
Not only he is he the best in the sport probably the up there with the best in all motorsport.
“Gets it wrong” and “at the sharp end”. As an American, to me his sense of humor and how the clowns on people is so high brow that if you don’t know how to absorb it, he probably isn’t your cup of tea.
I like it because it’s different. I don’t think one team or style is better than the other, they’re just different and to me variety is good.
My view is a bit biased because my dad is good friends with Paul, but he is such an awesome guy. His commentary is second to none. He is pretty ruthless with whatever he talks about, doesn't like to beat around the bush and just says it how it is. Plus, he gives really good insight most of the time about riders/teams that other people wouldn't know about.
Pit Row
Paul is the best. I just wish he would stop with “will he do this, yes or no?” 800 times per race this year.
Honestly I could care less what they jabber about. I'm watching the race. When I attend a Supercross I can't even hear what the announcer is saying nor do I care during the race. I still say the wrong Dan quit though.
Malin has lapped the field .
That’s the job of the colour commentator. However, Paul doesn’t usually have one.
I love that he is always calling the races instead of adding stories. Just a different approach, not a knock on the AMA crew though. It is just different. And he knows a lot of names! From EMX65 to MXGP
I think it’s an unpopular opinion but I really don’t like James commentating. He gives some good insights but it seems to be tucked between him saying the same ‘funny’ line again and again. It’s so annoying.
Malin is second to none when it comes to commentate races. I could watch GP's on the TV for free in France, but i'm paying the MXGP-TV pass just so i can get Malin's comments. Sorry for the likes of Emig, Weigandt, Stew, Ricky, Sheenen and so on but IMO they are miles behind. Being able to carry on for 2 hours every week-end by himself in the boot and keep it relevant and intereseting is a tall order. Have you ever tried, for a few laps, to comment a race in your head ? Yeah, you'd probably suck hard. This guy is doing it for hours at a time - alone - while checking whats hapening on TV but also laptimes, lapcharts, telling racing stories, and talking to riders during breaks. Malin is the real deal, and he's also super nice.
Agreed! Weege is also top tier. Him and Langston were my favourite AMA announcing duo.
Weege and Langston were top notch. I really like Malin and JT.
So refreshing that he can just say a riders name without having to push the bike team sponsors down our throat..... and he makes the pass on his blue rockstar monster penrite mobil1 alpinestar geico backed kawazuki, it does my head in.
Another thing he does & I wish other commenters did this, he never ever tells you the results of the previous races. I think it’s more to do with the fact ever race is a separate broadcast rather than a continuous stream.
Malin, Emig, and Stewart are by far the best in the industry. It's not even close.
