It’ll be interesting to see if they re-sign him. Most of the manufacturers have a habit of not re-signing guys that win to much.
For the 1000th time, it's re-sign.
"Resign" is something else entirely.
It won’t end
What are you talking about?
Honda will never let him go

Don't confuse the two...
Jett will resign when he joins the PGA!
It was sarcasm buddy
Most of the manufacturers have a habit of not re-signing guys that win to much.
What in the world are you talking about? How does that make any sense? Most the time it's because of personal interest or major injury.
“….are here.” 😂
Jett’s up 2025, Hunters up 2024.
Honda didn’t re-sign MC after 96
Honda didn’t re-sign RC after 04 perfect season
Kawi didn’t re-sign JS after 08 perfect season
You know Star and KTM will be offering him f*ck you money to come over. It’ll be interesting to see how he does against Jett in SX and whether or not he looks elsewhere to try and gain an advantage on his bro. I wonder if he wants to win badly enough to leave HRC and do his own thing if it comes to it. Him and Aldon would likely be quite the combo…
The closest you got to anything remotely right is Stewart but everything I can easily find says it was something to do with Monster vs. Red Bull as a personal sponsor.
MC didn't like the alloy frame bike either, Suzuki basically paid all the win bonuses up front for RC,
and I think Kawi choosing to back RV over stew was the right call in the long term,
You just proved my point! Lmao
Honda could’ve met MC terms if they wanted to keep him and it’s no secret that Honda tried to sign JS for 05, but failed to do so, prompting RC to sign with Suzuki. And there was not even an offer made to Stew from Kawi after 08.
Point is, if any of the manufacturers wanted to keep riders, they could have!
Sure. Why would Honda want to keep the guy who is yet to lose on a 450 and has won the last 4x 250 titles he competed in?
They won't value what he brings and will let someone else swoop in and get him.
Pit Row
Are you talking about Ricky Carmichael or Jett Lawrence?
Sounds identical to me…
As someone who hires people. It’s those little things that make the difference.
Stew and Kawi went sour after Kawi signed with monster and cut Red Bull out from him. He choose Red Bull over monster and Kawi. Red Bull limited James rides, like it has with Kenny.
Another factor for RC was Honda’s SX bike. He’s stated that he knew the Yami was better and that Reed was faster than him in 03, plus Chad was coming into 05 as defending champion, so was unlikely to make the same rookie mistakes that cost him the 03 title.
Suzuki’s known cornering prowess and, after basically copying the YZ engine, made that deal way more attractive to RC. Outdoors he was sweet, but indoors he was worried.
History shows he made the right decision.
Honda won’t want to let him go, but Jett has to want to stay there. Two way street here and who knows where he’ll be personally.
I don’t know why he wouldn’t stay with Honda for a good while. Hunter on the other hand, I could see him moving up to the 450’s and possibly wanting to separate himself one day by going with another factory. Plus, I like that story line.
Honda won’t let them go, but I think it’ll be his/their choice ultimately.
A week from neverday.
Exactly what the guy was saying. The factory (Honda/Kawi in this example) didn’t re-sign them because they couldn’t make it work. Some will do whatever it takes to make it work to get or keep a guy.
example would be look at KR94 and HEP this year, they basically made an entire separate sponsored team and rig just to get him and he could keep Redbull personally.
History shows it.
Hopefully Honda learned from their past mistakes and won't let a winning combo like the Lawrence brothers go. Would be nice to see some Honda Dominance for the next 10 years.
Jet's situation reminds me a lot of Marc Marquez a few years back, both Honda riders, both Red Bull athletes, both having massive success early on in their careers. At a time when 2 year deals were the standard in MotoGP, Honda gave him a 4 year deal, along with just about everything he wanted, including developing the bike he wanted. Since signing that contract in 2020 he has won just 3 races, due to injuries that have kept him out of racing most of the last 4 years. It was a very costly signing for Honda that has not paid off, and there is already talk of him leaving Honda for KTM before his contract is up.
I dont think Honda wants to make that same mistake again with Jet, waiting to long and then being forced to offer a long term deal. If Honda is smart they will offer Jet extension sooner then later.
I do wonder what he’d be like on a different bike. Obviously, he’s doing fine on the Honda but seems like a lot of people have issues with it. So imagine if it’s handicapping him in some way and he has even more potential? Not saying that’s the case, but imagine if it were.
Honda wanted McGrath and they were pretty passed when he left. McGrath had a contract with a raise , but after the contract was negotiated, Honda added some things in it McGrath didn’t like.
Honda had a contract for RC, but Suzuki wrote a gigantic check that Honda couldn’t match. Another big kicker in that deal was Decoster going to the hospital to see RC and tell him how much he wanted him.
Kawasaki didn’t offer Stewy a deal because Stewys Redbull deal was so big, they didn’t bother. Stewy wouldn’t have signed anyways, he was pretty pissed over how they treated him over his Redbull deal.
I want Jett to leave Honda just to go dominate on another brand ("platform") from the get go, just to put and end to the excuses of riders not performing on their first year with their new manufacturer.
Post a reply to: When does Jett’s contract with Honda end?
