Of course it depends on the era people grew up in as to who epitomizes the Honda brand. Looking back through the history of the sport it is hard to find someone that inspired more and was idolized by more then Marty Smith and was synonymous with Honda.

Exactly. Guy who has one of the greatest rides in MX history... when I think of Magoo, it is Honda.

It's not one rider for me.  It's the 80s Honda teams of O'Mara, Bailey, Hannah, Magoo, The Machine before he was The Dogger, RJ, Micky Dymond, Hansen, Gibson, Shue, and the others.  Before that, Marty Smith.  Amongst them, I liked Bailey and he's the one that made me want a Honda, with JT gear.  But I can't narrow "Honda" down to one rider like I can Suzuki (Barnett).  Even with Yamaha, I think of Hannah and Glover.

Pretty cool to think about though, if I had to link riders to brands off the rip these are who I tie them to, personally.

Yamaha: McGrath

Suzuki: Dungey
Honda: RC
Kawasaki: J Stewart
KTM: Langston

I'll never forget the local pro telling me I need to run low bars swept way back because that's what RC does even though I was almost 6' tall on an 85. Grinning

RC I always associate with kawi or Suzuki for some reason.  McGrath was for sure Honda, but he spent a lot of time on yami that stick in my head also.

Marty was cool in my youth.

Amazing the list of riders that Honda has employed.

Strange how many have said Hannah. It just goes to show it's all about how old you are. For anyone my age, Marty wasn't so much a guy who rode a Honda as he was Honda incarnate, and Hannah wasn't so much a guy who rode a Yamaha as he was Yamaha incarnate. A Honda Elsinore was what you rode if you wanted to be like Marty (stylish and friendly); and a Yamaha YZ125 was what you rode if you wanted to be the brash, arrogant, cocky m-f-er that beat that friendly smile off those stylish Honda riders' faces.

For a while I hated Hannah more than I hated any other person on Earth, but over time (once he started riding a Honda) he grew on me.

Born in 88. Following the sport most of my life. When I think of Honda, I think of KDub

McGrath from the Peak days thru ‘96. No one in supercross history dominated like he did during that stretch. All time. 9EF221B7-3625-4F85-AC0A-5974857C97F1.jpeg?VersionId=wkCtcWu3cuPFkynuAgD8jXI1p85B
