To be fair Emig is a reptilian, everyone would have their shirts off and he could sit around with a jersey and chest protector on 😂
It's no only about how you train and the amount. Genetic has A LOT to do with it. If you have the wrong genetics for those conditions, you are not going to make it even if you are in great condition. Specially in these 5% scenarios where weather and track type come together.
There is a reason why not anyone can become a world class sprinter or marathon runner. MX with its demanding requirement of stamina is not an exception.
Yup, barely any jumps, you’re always pushing the bike to do something.
min klena kropp = my weak body
Not sure how the translation made it to "fit"

How hot was it with the indexes?
You can’t train 16 hours a day…
When you have to hammer and spend everything you have it will exhaust you and the guys that wear out a pair of gloves and a set of grips are the ones that will be spent, then there are riders that can have those things last for a season...and look relaxed and effortless. The heat and humidity along with the never ending sand and hammering like these guys do giving their all is amazing to me. Unreal athletes. Millville can be torture if its hot and it's coming fast!
Funny, you would think the guys from Texas & Florida would be acclimated to the heat & humidity. Sometimes it takes a while to recover from heat exhaustion, hopefully it does not effect these 2 the rest of the summer…Southwick is awesome….one of the last National tracks to remain true to its roots.
Steve Wise is a big fan of Masterpool. Steve was #81 his first year with Kawasaki
Steve said back in 1980 he battled with Howerton for the lead most of the first moto at Southwick, but used up almost every ounce of energy he had. When the second moto started he was ok until about the 10 minute mark and just totally ran out of energy and faded outside the top 10. Said it was the most brutal track on the circuit even back then. Of course this was when motos where 40+2.
"very long training sessions @ low BPMs"
Outside of the pros I think this aspect of training is still massively overlooked. There is a mountain of evidence showing the benefits of Zone 2 HR training. From personal experience I've seen my best 5k run times and 40k cycle times after I started low HR training. Strong muscles don't mean shit if you don't have the cardio to keep them working.
Especially in 1980. Even Southwick in '93, when I raced there the first time, it was way deeper
So AC raced while sick, still finished both motos, and we are giving him crap because he passed out after the race?
my thoughts exactly....we praise dudes that DNS'd the second motos because it was so brutal, but some clowns take shots at AC for grinding it out. Some folks in our sport are so low-IQ...
Emig is the best how weather rider there ever was. He’s from Mo. nicknamed missory parts of Mo. can get 100-120 with 99% humidity & dew point. 91 Millville it was 94 muggy with still air. Emig was the only rider sitting in view. Everyone else Hiding in front of a fan. Emig sat on the back on the box van with race socks& pants on. No shirt of course the crowd of Norwegian blonde girls just starred & never said a word. My chic was non stop stupid questions. The 125 class was wo start to finish. The 500,s started cruising at 15 min. Henry on a DGY yz125 lead for some laps, Lamson on a peak cr125 lead, Mx Kid lead laps, Larocco was a animal on the rm125. Lechien went 4,4 on the kx500 ford parts sponsored ride. Bradshaw wr500 yz490 air hammer sounded like a rod was going the at 15 min he lead until the hp was down to 30.
OP, you’ve done it. You’ve awoken the profeshenal.
You're welcome...
99% humidity? Thats called rain bro. Lol
They really should allow IV fluid/mineral replacement.
Pit Row
A few weeks back someone posted that Jett was, "surfing the track". I thought that was an exact description of his style.
He doesn't pound or fight the track. It's almost zen like. While others continue to use blown out lines lap after lap...he constantly finds the flow.
He is about as close to perfect as a racer can be.
Chris Canning looked like he was ready to go do another moto after that second Moto. They were pointing out how good he looked on the after show. I'm sure he knows how to flow with the track. And I wonder if he could have done better if he pushed harder or was limited by his skill and not fitness. I think he did great, I was hoping he was not going to get passed by Butron in that 2nd moto. He would have been 5th overall if he stayed in front of him and everybody else finished how they finished. It was hot , but its been hotter. I have photos of the temp being over 100 at one of the Nationals there.
uh wut?
*fog
The heat must have gotten to him....
To be fair, sitting in a 190 degree truck cab rolling down I-94 will get the best of anyone. Thankfully he has a pristine CR125 and a hot babe in a tube top sitting at home to keep his eyes on the prize.
Still reminiscing how he won his first ever race, mind you it was A class so hard to forget. The Al Bundy of moto 😂
Polk high school! Never forget!!
1:30 mark he mentions it
I remember watching Doug Henry tune up for Southwick in 2005 by racing the Orange Crush GNCC in Lake Winona, Fl. Juha Salminen was the hot shoe at the time. Doug shows up and raced three hours in the Florida heat and humidity without a drink system and smashed the field (Including Juha, Shane Watts, Mike Lafferty, Kurt Caselli, Robbie Jenks, Barry Hawk...) He pretty much collapsed at the finish line and ended up with an IV after the trophy ceremony. Unbelievable how some riders have the mental fortitude to charge no matter what.
At higher temperatures the humidity actually goes down. I highly doubt it’s ever been 120 degrees with 99% humidity.
o higher temps lower humidity?
Warm air can possess more water vapor (moisture) than cold air, so with the same amount of absolute/specific humidity, air will have a HIGHER relative humidity if the air is cooler, and a LOWER relative humidity if the air is warmer.
