Not a knock on MXA but nothing on their page. I thought they would have broke this sad news.

I expect a tribute will be forthcoming soon.

I suspect Jody will probably pen something lengthy and heartfelt, rather than just a short blurb.

Can't wait to read what he says.

Thanks ML.

Godspeed Roland Hinz, RIP sir.

Like the other guys here, I grew up riding and racing motocross in the 70s and couldn't wait wait for the latest issue of MXA, and all of the other motorcycle mags and rags.  That was a truly special time, what awesome times and memory's!

Roland Hinz and Daisy Hi-Torgue brings back such good memories. I know we all had those MXA mags coming in the mail each month. I could not wait to tear through them (back in 86ish - ). I can’t remember when I stopped getting them.

Not only "plush" but "well lit" too. It read like he treated his crews well. He must've rode a bit, I'm thinking. Any of you cats that knew him?

Sad to hear about my pal Roland. He gave myself and many others great careers as motojournalists and treated us well. There were many loyal employees along with lots of the editors who stuck around for decades. Most don’t know this, but he had a very funny, wry sense of humor and made us laugh a lot during meetings. As for the “plush, well-lit offices”, I think that was just a line Hunky probably came up with ages ago and just about every other editor used just because it was funny! As for Roland and riding I know he did like to run the trails occasionally with his family but I don’t recall that he was ever a racer.

I would sit indian style at the local Meijers Thrifty Acres and read the entire thing cover to cover as a 9 yr old. My mom would leave my older brother and I alone in the mag section while she shopped for "bug spray, gatorade and Carbs" for dads race that weekend. Back in the 90's these magazines were our only connection to "moto". What great times.

This might get a ton of downvotes, but I always respected Roland Hinz for decency in his publications. He understood that many children would pick up Dirt Bike & MXA, and he didn't want to be the one to fill their minds with glossy pics of big-breasted models in thong bikinis hawking racing products. He proclaimed that he was a Christian, and if a company like Bel-Ray, PJ1, Wiseco, JT Racing or Bell Helmets...or a myriad of others, couldn't sell their products without selling sex at the same time...they'd have to go to Cycle News or TransworldMX or something.

Whether you agreed with that or not, at least Roland stood for something...and didn't compromise. He didn't have to.

RIP Roland Hinz, and prayers for the peace of his family.

Very well said. One has to respect a person that doesn’t waiver from what they stand for. RIP Mr. Hinz.

When Roland bought Hi-Torque, it came with a couple of magazines that had semi-naked girls in them. Needless to say, he ditched them when he took things over.

I agree with you on that, he stood for what he believed in. Something that more humans need to get back to.
I’ve spent many days down at Hi-Torque, whether it was shooting a bike in the studio or stopping by to grab the new magazines and say hi to some of my friends working there and I’d run into him every once in awhile. Always a nice man and surrounded himself with good people. I hope the many jobs the Hi-Torque provides are not in jeopardy anytime soon as I have many friends that work there.
RIP Roland, thanks for the years of great memories !

Rest In Peace Mr. Hinz.

I still have the last issue of MXA I received in the mail just before my dad passed away.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but Tom Webb penned a really nice obit over on Dirt Bike's site. RIP Roland, I pretty much learned to read reading your magazines, in school tucked inside my Social Studies book.

Just checked to see if Rick Sieman had anything to say about Rolands passing.  They had some bad blood in the past.

Sadly, it looks like www.superhunky.com website is offline/possibly for sale.  Sad      Anyone have any contact with Rick.   I hope he's doing well.

His Facebook page seems active. I think his daughter helps out with it.
