Just sat here and wondering what people look for when buying a set of mx kit?
- Material?
- Price?
- Design? (Clean and Minimal? - Artistic?)
- Colour?
What are things you would like to see gear manufacturers bring back or improve on there mx kit?
Last years models. Quality and price
Silicone in waistband and silicone on jersey tail. I HATE my pants or jersey sliding.
Color.
hi viz yellow.
never not wanting to go unnoticed, mostly feels safer to me.
Fit, quality, design.
The Shop
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
Free shipping: VITALMX
Big sizes…..
So that means that you mostly get the plain, black versions of the lower lines from any gear company.
Venting
Fit
Materials (again, venting/breathing)
Design
When I’m shopping for a bike kit I want the decals to be glossy and thick so they are durable enough to last a long time. Replica decal kits are also awesome because I feel like people just might think I’m James Stewart or Chad Reed but just wanting to ride really slow today
I would add price and durability to this. Durability goes back to materials.
I've found that venting and durability seem to be at odds with one another. Riding in Texas I'll sacrifice durability for gear that breathes. If it starts falling apart, that's just more venting!
Price mostly and brand certain brands just blow out so fast anymore.
Also only buy close out stuff because gear isn't made to last anymore like it used to be. It's become a little to light weight. Biggest problem is - made in China.
In my experience Fly kinetic mesh is very durable.
Durability, function.
Thread title has given me a headache
I always used to run multiple sets of one brand (I was sponsored for several seasons.) Now, I usually run TLD (but not always,) as they make some styles that I like and they are one of the brands that used to help me out. Lately, I've been more concerned with fit, however - I don't feel like my body is changing much, but the cut of the pants sure has! Alpinestars fits better for me now, and I run their boots as well.
One thing about my color selections: I always run a helmet which is primarily the color of my bike. Then, I wear a complimentary or clashing set of colors with pants, jersey, goggles and gloves. I try to look faster than I really am.
Kashima mostly.
+1
I can not get behind the “Kit” verbiage for moto gear. I guess I’m just old
I’ve jumped fully on the fasthouse bandwagon for the materials alone. The pants and jerseys are through dyed instead of sublimated like most big gear companies. If you look at a Thor/Alpinestars/Fox/whatever jersey, the outside is colorful and the inside is white. That’s sublimated ink and it fades out before the jersey is worn out. The fasthouse stuff is actual dyed fabric and keeps its color much longer. The fabric is thicker but doesn’t run any hotter and the stitching is heavier. Their stuff holds up well and kits from 5 years ago don’t look dated because all their stuff is pretty plain anyway.
price and design is just about all I care about, sweet looking gear for under $150, im in.
I guess i'll add that I stay away from the super tight athletic fit, it wasn't built for me.
Pit Row
I'm old also, the "kit" usage I can understand, when used correctly, which is rare. All of your gear adds up to a "kit" the same as it ends up as a "set". If you called a supplier of gear and told them you want a set of kit there would be some head scratching going on.
Thanks guys for the reply.
Im currently in the process of building a gear brand that will cater for all the young and “old” folks! Haha.
I feel like it is important to diversify when building a brand from a non-corporate POV especially to allow for both old and modern tech, fabrics, jersey and pant fit and colours/design.

If there are any other things you would like to see please do let me know.
Here are some mistakes a feel a lot of new gear manufacturers are making.
1. Extremely limited color-ways, if you only have 3 gear sets to sell, you have a very limited chance of having color-ways that appeal to a large group
2. gear companies need the wild, the traditional, and the very bland. Dont give me a choice of either rainbows or solid red, throw some middle ground gear in there as-well.
3. If you are a new brand that i've never heard of, i'm not paying top-of-the-line Fox/Alpinestar prices, even if your designs/durabiltiy is better. I'm not going to risk it on a brand ive never heard of
This is probably a very much me specific thing, but I find the logo to be more important than the brand name. A unique logo that is fairly easy to reproduce helps suck people in.
As a kid, I remember drawing fox, aplinestar and back then, Thor logos on my school folders and things like that, and made me a fan for life
Yes sir. I hate the tight stuff...for me. Moose has been my go to since No Fear went away.
Somebody that will enjoy washing the boots
Hope it all goes well. Nice Logo by the way. I look forward to see what designs you come up with.
My gear lasts me more than one season. I stay away from the "loud print" and also not the most plain print.
Like it to look nice but not look dated 3 months after I buy it.
Save me a seat on the “old” bus…can’t get behind the whole kit thing either.
I'm Autistic, So that makes sense lol
1. "Relaxed" fit
2. Durable materials
3. Simple colors
4. Good ventilation
5. Reasonable price
Ventilation and discounted pricing. I try to stick with TLD gear as that's what I've always liked, but I'm just running their simple GP mono stuff from like 3-4 years ago. I feel like the simpler design styles are kinda timeless and won't look outdated.
Right now I am using FLY F16 and FLY Patrol OTB pants, depending on how long of a ride I am going on and how the temps are mostly. I have a couple of the F16 jerseys but I usually always wear a Moose jacket when riding anyways. The FLY gear is pretty comfortable and seems to be pretty well built for the 'cheap' line, and with how seldom I actually get to ride it will probably last 10 years for me.
I have one of the Fox Legion vests that I use sometimes, but I have to admit that it is VERY snug and I ended up adding a short 2" extension to each of the 3 buckles!!!!
