Remember the time James cross jumped and literally landed on RC’s back, causing them both to eat shit? but yeah Deegan is out of control lol

Remember the time Ricky and James talked about what really happened

Yea that's exactly what entered my Mind the 800 and I would think he can find a better mentor IMO.

Yup, it was truly a pathetic, classless, display and I for one lost all respect for him. In addition, Hunter mentioned on the podium when asked about it that he knows how deegan rides because he dealt with it in supercross. Deegan also seemed to not realize that Hunter is extremely capable of taking people out, and although that is not his usual approach in cases like this, because he is not an a hole,, I have seen him send people big time when  he has had enough of them.

The last rookie to race like that was probably your boy Alessi, Bobby.

I'm on the tail end of this...but, like it or not, Deegan is doing whatever he knows he can get away with. Apparently, there is nobody in his inner circle telling him to calm the hell down! There are a lot of guys who fit that description, but not many are only 19. Some may disagree, but I believe his dad Brian has a responsibility to lay it on the line with him before this gets totally out of hand and either himself gets hurt or he hurts somebody else. The kid is damned good...but IMO, he'll never be a champion doing the silly shit he's doing right now. Look at guys like Barcia, Friese & others who have a rep as being "out of control" and riding dirty like Haiden is now. Both are great riders...Justin especially, but they've never (to my knowledge) won a pro championship, and their days are over being real threats for even a top-box finish...Justin especially.

yeah i think the true colors are starting to shine through. On camera you only see what they want you to see. It will be interesting to see the next races coming up.

I know the Rookie excuse can wear thin, but it is still his rookie season...

Hopefully he learns, kids been strong, just needs to harness the attitude / emotion, but he's still young.

Yah, I was wondering how he would ride if he started to feel pressure to do well . So far he has been over performing, as far as what most people thought he was going to do anyway.  Yes He has been riding and training with top pros for a while now. But the pressure to perform  and put in good race results at this level has not been there until recently. I've been a fan of his ,since seeing how quickly he has been able to learn and gain so much speed from when he first got on the Yamaha. But I'm not a fan of that style riding.

I hope he is quick to learn that riding like that will not help him with  fans or race results  .  Like  I saw another post say, if it was on the last lap or 2 ,  some of it  would not be as  big of a deal. But thinking Your going to be able to block a guy for an entire moto seems like he was not thinking. Aggressive passing is one thing, but cross jumping is NEVER OK.I think that if he is as smart as he seems to be, He will see how it will not workout well for him to do that. Maybe I do not watch him close enough, but I don't remember him cross jumping and blocking anybody before. That deal with Smith in a heat race  seemed like something else.

Barcia is a 2 x 250 regional champion. Doesn't hold the same weight as a national championship for many, but they are championships.

But I do agree with what you are saying.

Copy paste from the 85cc LL thread. After rewatching the races, I don't really see the issue. It is agressive, yes he doesn't want to get passed, yes some stuffs are text book from a rookie (remember prado's first race vs. herlings which was 10x worse), yes it is not perfect, for sure there is some room for improvement. But even the cross jumping was really not bad, he knew where both were, he was ahead and it was to get all the speed he could to stay ahead (plus it doesn't hurt anyway to get your team mate 2 more seconds to stay in the lead).

What I find it hilarious is grown men crying about it. Purely in the moment and not thinking further. Especially because he is the best rookie in some time ... (while most were saying about 1 year ago he would not be top 20...) There is a ton of jealousy or frustration while the kid is still just a kid and he may well represent the US in september... Any country would be happy to have this rookie. Let us just appreciate what we see instead of complaining for what we could not do as Brian 20 years ago. Flame on, IDGAF.

Enough with these "he's a rookie", and "he's only 17" excuses.  There have been plenty of 17-year-old rookies that didn't act the fool. Yes, his racecraft will improve over time.  However, I don't have much confidence in him ridding himself of his douchey ways. I hope I'm wrong.  We shall see.

He'll end up being taught a hard lesson by one of the vets and slow down with that stuff. He's a kid full of piss and vinegar. I like the kid, but that shit needs to stop

Douchey is a hard word for racing hard (15 minutes into a nationals, while in P2, think a second about it). If you want your best rookies to race with a white flag then take a frenchy Smile jk, easy joke I heard as a french, but I don't see why riders now need to make room to get passed unless it is the learn lines and try to pass back (which he will do at some point). As soon as it is not dangerous then I am ok, and I didn't see anything really bad this season. Otherwise in 3 thread we will complain that the riders are too shy, it is 1 line and we don't see actions, #rutocross etc ... #Neverhappy.

BTW, a better topic about "dangerous" would be the starting grids, the pile ups were massive. I hope the riders get used to this otherwise it may have to be droped ; it is not a bad idea to have grids, but sometimes it is not possible to see the outcome until we see it live and so far it is a bit sketchy. Maybe a grid for the top 5 qualifiers to make the qualifying more spicy ??? (not a great idea too as it would be a bit more like MotoGP or F1)

It is funny, people say they are rookies yet they have ridden and understand the rules for how long? With that said, I give him a pass for now certainly. Just a part of our sport

The "grown men crying" card is getting pulled a little too often around here.

It's like the racism/homophobe card for Vital...this is a discussion board, for discussing moto and in the case of this thread people are talking about Deegan's riding and it could be seen as dangerous.

If you disagree then fine, but at least come up with an actual counter point rather than just labeling people old, jealous, insecure etc.

For the record I think he had no chance of blocking Hunter for 20 laps and it was dirty, potentially dangerous and lame af.

And I also don't care if the rider doing it is 12, 17, 50, famous internet product, or a C grade nobody.

It was lame...I'm a grown man and I'm not crying about it.  It's called calling a spade a spade.

What Deegan did is horrible. But what Tomac did to Dungey at the last SX round in 2017 is fine, right? Tomac did everything in his power to crash Dungey, short of outright taking him out. Admittedly, had it been Barcia or Anderson, Dungey would have gotten completely taken out.

You guys double-standard much?

I don't have much tolerance for anyone who doesn't race forward.

Forum for discussion. Yet if you say someone was racing backwards, you’re a cry baby, a Karen, you’re butt hurt. The only people taking this too serious is the people responding with this. The majority of us would like to see him do well contrary to what you want to believe.

You're so right about Barcia....ever since he won that 450SX less than 2 months ago his days of getting a top box finish have been over

Barcia won back to back sx titles in 11 and 12

Bit late to the thread, but here's my take anyway.

And yes I'm an Aussie Lawrence fan...but I don't think what Deegan did was dirty by any means I just think it was dumb and immature.  Your only 10 mins into a 30 minute moto and your playing " silly games " looking behind way too many times and not racing forward etc etc .  Deegan has way too much talent to be doing that and should have taken it as a learning curve and learn from one of the best.  By no means just roll over and let him past , put up a fair battle and if he gets by try and tuck in and see how he's going faster and learn from it.

No real opinion on the race because of, well 24 Hours of Le Mans.

I have watched him race through the years. All I'm going to say is best not ever leave anything inside if you're looking back lane changing.

I was never a moto hero but held my own in the woods. I'd race a guy clean if he was in my class, if not, 2 switch backs and a couple of look backs, you are about to crash.

And that's not being an ass, my competition is riding away, and I ain't racing you.

ummm, hitting ones brakes and nearly stopping on a track and weaving etc to block someone behind is not racing, it is in fact "douchey", racing is opening the throttle as far as you dare.

Difference is that the sample size of Deegan is very small compared to Freize and Barcia, heck Barcia has turned it around in recent years and not doing his usual antics, took him 10 + years but he has changed, you can't say Barcia "lack of success" is due to his antics, Barcia has underperformed his whole 450 career bar his debut year and the past 2 years, he's always had the talent to be up there with the best, one of the most impressive 250 riders ever to do it.

Judge the boy in a few years if he's still doing it or doing it more sure shit on him.

My prediction it will become less of a move by him once he gets his speed up to par with the front runners then he won't need to do this, and yes that speed will come.
