Is it just me or are there more and more dumb posts on Vital recently? A lot of them are troll posts or fanboys/haters spewing absolute nonsense. I avoid pretty much all other social media because the engagement from users is trolling or fanboy/hater nonsense, but I like the forum here on Vital! The bench racing is pretty good, industry people show up sometimes, etc. I'm not saying ban anyone, but would it be possible to move posts into the dumbgeon a bit quicker? Or maybe block users with less that 100 replies from starting a new topic?
You should see what I've tossed in the Dumbgeon recently.
[Insert link to 2009 "Mainstream" argument thread here to show where this all started.]
Even though there are some idiots and annoying posters here, this place is a million times better than trying to engage posters on twitter, Instagram, or Facebook.
Good point. I can even imagine the Jett this or Chase that or “Screams heard in Honda rig” madness out there…

I enjoy most of the banter. But I do agree with some of what you said.
I’ve seen it done on other forums over the years and it works well preventing a lot of the dumb posts. New accounts can’t post or start a new thread until they have 100 posts or even just 50.
I've definitely noticed an influx of really really dumb things the past couple years.
I've been on many forums over the years but Vital takes the cake on the sheer number of weirdos who get off by getting banned and creating new usernames over and over again.
This. Most people here are pretty much hardcore fans of the sport and this makes this place way better than any kind of social media. I don't think some troll threads are a really big problem, but to be fair, that's the first "forum" where I'm kinda active, so I can't really compare it to other forums.
But for real, have you guys ever tried reading instagram comments without cringing? People being anonymous makes them think they can write any kind of bullshit. Best example is people telling pro riders to retire because they had a bad race or season, disgusting.
Call me the get off my grass guy, but the hay day of this place ended in 2012ish. All the knowledge left because they got tired of being called dumb or stupid, or that they didn’t know what they were talking by the new breed that currently resides here. I mean they literally ran off Stewart
There’s way more knowledgeable members at another board, and the post interaction is way better.
For content tho, you can’t beat what ML, the English guy and the dude from Texas has brought to this place. Overall, the rest of the site is much better.
Unfortunately, that seems not to be just a vital problem but a global crisis. I feel like the amount of dumb I encounter is at an all time high. Walk into an autozone to get windshield wiper fluid & they'll ask you "make model & year of vehicle."
I honestly want to see an ignore function, where you block certain users and not see their posts. Tired of seeing interesting discussions go to waste because of the same circlejerkers over and over again.
Maybe I'm just getting too old. What seems to annoy me more than anything lately is guys who post who don't seem to have any knowledge of the sport or it's recent history.
I mean I'm all for attracting new viewers and fans, but if you are actively posting on a moto message board I would think you'd know if "the 450 class has ever had the same 1-2-3 finishers in each moto on the same day"
Again maybe I'm just too old and yell at the clouds too much, but man I'm only 41. To me it seems like half the guys here don't even know the dude with the dreadlocks in the booth even raced....
That's the main reason I don't do social media. It's a sickening cesspool that breeds mental illness.
Heh. Long time fan since the late 70's. Past rider and racer too. I did not know for certain if there were 1,2,3 finishers in the same day. Honestly, I don't care about details/stats like that.
I know a lot, but I also don't know a lot. That's what makes this place interesting...learn something new all the time.
Meh "ignore feature" is kind of chickenshit. No offense to you...just seen it on other boards....one guy had nearly everyone on ignore (hundreds of people)...makes one wonder why they bothered to be there.
Just scroll past users you don't want to read. There are a few aholes on here I do that with.
Hey...a "multi-quote" feature would be nice to have (seriously)....that way we wouldn't have 3 consecutive posts responding to 3 different users.
I hate that most guys here have never seen RJ, Ward, Bailey, MC, Bradshaw, RC race in person, Stewart race a 125 in person, or the JS and RC battles in person etc…..maybe it would give you a new appreciation that today’s guys are not that much better than the past guys, if any better.
It’s bad recently. I’ve said this in other threads, there are 5 (on the low side) accounts that post in almost every single thread on this forum that contribute absolutely nothing except for nonsense. The same tone every time (always negative, contrarian, etc) conspiracy theory-esc.
I would seriously support a block user function on vital. These idiots get off on the engagement they farm from posting ridiculous shit all the time.
Pit Row
The worst thing about this place is the general lack of understanding of bench racing.
In bench racing you basically tell outlandish stories or opinions to your buddies and back them up with logical facts that may or may not support your position and then your buddies go even more outlandish. Here if you have any kind of opinion you are asked what sized helmet you wore on the short buss. Too much anger in posting around here.
This right here! Very well said! I’m very sarcastic, and I enjoy the banter and debatable humor back and forth. I’m thick skin, I can take the ribbing. It’s usually the serious guys with no sense of humor that complain about stupid posts. Who wants to go to a place and talk shop all the time?!
Being a man if you don't break your buddy's balls are you even friends?
I'm going mountain biking with a good friend tonight named Ronnie and made a shirt up for the occasion.
In glitter vinyl the front says:
"Be a buddy not a bully."
The back says:
"Suck it Ronnie."
The whole "Be a buddy not a bully" is some recurring back and forth banter and the glitter vinyl and Sesame Street style lettering makes it all the better.
I think we've just become a troll culture as a whole, across all mediums over the last couple years, and Vital is no exception.
It has been compounded lately with not only some pretty far-out posts, but the insults drag the place straight to the social media-ish toilet. Sunday morning Vital is definitely not what it used to be, it is just an insult-fest.
Yet here you are
I have said for years, the "good thing" about Forums/Social Media is it allows everyone to post their opinions.......the "bad thing" about Forums/Social Media is it........ allows everyone to post their opinions.......

Been on and off vital since 2010 and its alway been full of idiots, it doesn't seem any different to me. No more no less.
Visit the two time MX2 champion thread if you'd like to take in a large dose of idiocy .
If there were an ignore feature you'd be the only one that could read your posts .
I was a member of moto drive back in the day and I remember it being very similar. At the end of the day, there's only so much to talk about in the context of one sport. Its banter, difference of opinion, proud fans etc etc. Once you've been on a message board for long enough you see the same reoccurring questions and arguments, which then jade you as a long time member and give you the impression that now the people frequenting the board are "dumber" than when you first joined.
Same thing happens in companies, industries and life in general.
Bench racing is one thing, and it should be ruthless, but when someone starts blasting that they can't stand the people that support another rider and don't want to hear it, and clearly have themselves in a knot over it, that is a buzz kill.
