Remember when the pro tracks were required to install gates on concrete starting pads?

Then the teams started whining and they went back to dirt.

I bet the tracks that probably had to tear out 140' x 10' pads remember.

NOPE. Keep it dirt and riders can only pack their rut.

Wasn't this announced back in February? Seems like we've already had this thread.

I dunno if we did or not but....this is so fucking stupid and only makes for more dangerous first turn crashes.

Make Moto Great Again....ban starting devices and any other bullshit to make the starts easier!

IMO, this what we get when FELD gets involved in Pro Motocross.  I thought Davey was totally against this type idea years ago, but my memory could be failing me.  I doubt the factory teams care one way or the other about it.  Not sure why they would.  Obviously, it's the way of the future though

Do you believe that it has made MXGP more dangerous?

So why the fuck are you blaming this on FELD ??? It has nothing to do with FELD and the factory teams wanted this so go find something else you can blame on FELD like climate change. some times I swear you guys hate racing and have to shit on it at every opportunity.

Because this is the first year Feld has been involved in Pro MX.  Seems logical to me.

What the hell are you supposed to do before your Moto if you don’t have a rut to stomp and kick?

Highly unlikely.  You must be a Feld employee.  Sorry to hurt your feelings.

I always liked the rubber band star with lug wrench release. You could give the dude pulling it a few key bumps and tell him to yank her when you nod your visor just a bit. 4 bike length holeshot. Them were the days

Sure.

ANYTHING that makes it so that more people can get to the first turn at the exact same time makes it more dangerous.  Period.  I honestly don't see how anyone could argue that.

It's time to get rid of all this start bullshit...the only thing that matters now is reaction time essentially.....just hold that pig at the perfect RPM, dump the clutch and all the doo-dads will do the rest.  The racing would instantly get better if it all went away.

Give me one, just one reason that we NEED any of this start device and starting grate shit?

*Yes, I understand ruts past the gate etc. can have a bearing on a start but my point still stands*

At least they are not forcing the tracks to buy the gates. The purest in me says.. No.. keep it as it has always been. Every change takes the sport further away from what it originally was. Whats next? Allowing new engine configurations an unfair displacement advantage? Oops👌

WEAK. Quit making mx/sx so "sterile". Jesus. Dump all the holeshot devices, litpro data, grate starting pads...and take us back to the roots.

I wonder if the grates will be used for the amateur races as well

These threads that involve uniform starting grates and synthetic whoops do not give me much confidence for the future of our sport

It was not a proper rubber band start if the third post was not at least 12 3/4' in front of the line so the band pulled forward at the same time, and if the piece of plywood used to stop the trigger piece from going between the post and hitting someone or something with remarkable gorce did not have at least a 12" w 12" hole in it from being hit so.many times.

Details man.

I couldn't care less about grates, dirt or even concrete as long as it's the same across the line....

Let's just race please.

Yeah I'm with you, I really don't see what difference this makes to us. It's the ruts after the gate that are important in gate selection anyway, so it doesn't change that either. Why would anyone care about this?

I'm just sad it won't be dirt anymore. One of the biggest advantages of gate pick is now gone. I prepped gates for a few years, both SX and MX just before they went to the grates. I think my toes still hurt from trying to chip up any wet dirt you can find, but, I still wouldn't change it. Shit, at this point lets just single file them based on qualifying....Sick

Has a tire been molded to fit the expanded steel yet?

Could be key!

Surely the grates would be laid over existing concrete.

I think we should get rid of the gates and go back to a flag start in a grass field. Gates are too high tech and over rated. Back to the roots you guys keep screaming, well then let's go back to the 60's.

Times change, technology advances. Get over it. And as someone who has started on a metal grate, I love it. Much more consistent starts vs coming up out of a rut to go over the gate and then back into a rut. Bikes seem to track much straighter too with less guys going sideways and colliding 20ft out from the gate
