if we average the top 3 riders in the last Daytona and compare with the top 3 in the 83 race, I wonder what the difference in seconds per lap would be.

All that would prove is that the tracks are different lengths

Considering ET is dropping laps 10 seconds faster than RC, I’d guess it wouldn’t take more than a handful of laps to put them down 1

Cool

Geez,

Yeah,

It is that simple.

Why didn't somebody think of this a long time ago?

I will tell you why.

Because supercross technology has gone through remarkable and revolutionary changes since 1983, but it pales in comparison in the changes in Marijuana potency and affects.

They did a replica track a few years ago of a track RC, Stew and Reed were racing and they were a second or 2 faster than todays guys. I know it wasn’t the same exact track and the conditions were probably a little different but it was the same layout. You can take that however you want.
Anaheim 2 2008 was a replica of Anaheim 1986.

Reed ran a 49 in the main and Bailey and Johnson were in the 1 minute range. It’s the same deal with the track and conditions but 10-12 seconds is a lot.

If you think ET is cutting laps 10 seconds faster than RC and Stew you are full of dog hair.  I feel sorry for someone that didn't get to see RC and Stew ride and that includes you because you obviously haven't.

Oof. This is actually a good question tho. Can we get racerx or someone to find two tracks that resemble each other as closely as possible in length layout and surface and compare *average speed* (to control for doffs in track length)

Makes you wonder...

My guess is tomac avgs 2mph faster than RC peak to peak in sx and 0.8 mph faster in outdoors over a race. 1.5mph diff in qualibspeed.outdoors

A current bone stock 250F is way better than a 83 factory 250 2T....which puts a 450 in another time zone.

You cannot compare generations.

Is 2023 Eli faster then 2015 Eli?

If riders get faster as they age then yes each generation is faster.

If riders plateau at 22 then no.

Technology advances.

Knowledge advances.

A rider from this generation should be faster then the last and then the 1 before.

They all grew up using skills James had and work ethic rc had.

But saying Eli is faster then rc even if he is. It's an unfair comparison due to those factors.

Evolution.

Fairly specific guess 😂

In my opinion nobody has ever gone faster around an MX track than 2015 Tomac at Hangtown and Glen Helen. Not even Eli later. Rode the track in a completely different way.

Lol, put those same kids on the old iron and sit back and laugh....hell, they couldn't start half of the bikes, especially a left kicker

The sport has evolved so much, with style, bike, and electronic technology since 83. I’d say on a modern day Daytona they’re probably better than 10 seconds.

I think if any of the stars in 83 were born in 2000, they’d be just as fast as the current top guys.

But I’d say you’re crazy if you think these guys are going 2 seconds faster than RC, Stewy, and Reed.

The advancements from 2006 to current isn’t much. But from 88 to current is absolutely massive.

Main progression came with 4 strokes. 125’s were applauded for tripling and skimming whoops. 250F’s are quadding and skimming faster than 450’s.

It would be a lot. They wouldn’t even qualify for the night show.

That's why Carlsbad was the perfect track to compare different eras for laptimes because that track literally was exactly the same from 1975 to the last race it held there. Same bumps, jumps and blue grooves. Only diff was the starting gate type.

RC, Stew, and Reed...is that a law firm? Never heard of 'em.

Now ET I know. One of my favorite movies from the 80's.

Yep, nor broke both of their shoulders in one crash, like he did at Thunder Valley that year.

His lines were full on F1 like. They had to be to carry that speed. Afuckinmazing!

There isn't a C class rider alive that would beat the former top pros no matter what bike the C guy rode.
