Sorry, no new bike pic…..yet.
Considering picking one up this weekend 😃 How are you guys liking your 22/23’s? I’m a vet novice guy and currently am running an Rmz 450.

Had a blast building mine and fun to ride but back to a 450 for racing.

Should be perfect I never had a problem vet racing on mine. I've won a bunch of races so I'm not sure how is not competitive.

I’m not any faster on a 450 tbh. I do race but being competitive doesn’t mean what it used to anymore.

Then go for it. You will work harder on the yz.  The 22/23 yz does have a lot better ergo's to me.  I dont feel like im sitting in the bike anymore

Hadn’t ridden a 2 stroke since 85s. 15 years later bought a 23 250 to keep hours off my 22 450. Great bike, loads of fun. Besides the motor characteristics, it really doesn’t feel that different from my 450. You’ll love it

I'm getting motocross fever. Time to get a bike again. This time with a '22 YZ250 maybe. Would be a fun build.

For me I love the bike.

But I’m 6’4” and go about 260lbs

i screw up anything on the 250 and I’m in trouble.

I will ride both bike’s tomorrow at the Oatfield in Central cal tomorrow.

big grins on both.

I spent some time on a '20 ktm 250sx and those were my same thoughts. It's certainly not a 450 but the mid range pull was no joke and more than enough for me. I also appreciated the low end feel as I'm not much of a clutch abuser.

Last time I rode a yz 250 was an '06 model back in 2009 lol. I'm excited lol.

I got about 35 hours on my 22. Stock valving is a big step back from the 21 imo, I had a really hard time getting it to feel balanced. Other than that the ergos are really nice on the 22/23 bikes.

Currently I just have bars/levers, revalved suspension, and a gytr flywheel weight. And I'm pretty pumped on it for how stock it is.

Did the stock valving feel too stiff or soft for your liking? And the bike has non-rubber bar mounts, right? This was one worry I had considering I've only ever been on bikes with rubber mounts. Wondering how the vibration is too?

The YZ250 is a great bike….I m enjoying a 23 model.

I also have a CRF450 2022 (vortex ecu, full yosh exhaust, KYB A kit fork and shock)…..bike is collecting dust since I got the YZ250.

I have so much fun riding the YZ, but my CRF is so much faster and also easier to ride….easy to clear some jumps coming from a tight corner……more open lay out tracks its easier to be fast with the YZ

Sometimes I go to the track with both bikes and usually I use the 450 for just 10 minutes and then I enjoy the rest of the day riding the YZ.

For racing purposes I will choose the 450 hands down….for pure fun the YZ.

Nice Bike, saw one at the track today. Guy looked like he was having a blast. Not sure if he would have been any faster on a 4 stroke not that he was fast.

Bike is phenomenal. Did one more light session to complete break in. Some take aways:

1. KYB SSS forks are amazing. First time on this fork and this is what suspension should feel like…and I’m sure it’s not fully broke in quite yet.

2. Powerband is buttery smooth. Flick of the clutch and it lights up. Roll on power is very controllable. Also the Keihin is a great carb. Very crisp and responsive.

3. Every bike I’ve owned had rubber mounted bar mounts. These are directly bolted to the clamp. I was worried about vibration but it’s not too bad imo. I don’t care for the feeling of non rubber mounts. To me, you can feel everything under the front tire. I checked to see if I had a flat front initially but it was just the sensitive feeling of no rubber mounts. I really want a full Ride engineering split clamp setup. That’s for later.

4. Front brake is a bit spongy and weak but I like it. I prefer having my brake finger closer to my throttle tube for corner control.

5. This bike truly is a Swiss Army knife. Moto track, single track, fire roads….I had fun today and love this bike.

The Xtrig PHDS bar mounts really help with the feeling your talking about.  As for the brake your best bet is a solid mount front rotor and a braided line.   I would also suggest for you to run some race race or get the head cut for pump gas as the YZ's like to detonate early on pump from the factory.

How's the apex? I really want one. I hear it's basically the best mod for the money.

Haven't got much time on it and I ride strictly moto. I was looking to lessen the hit it felt pretty good probably not as abrupt but was my  time out since last fall so my riding skills are lacking a bit.

Front end was too soft, mid stroke to me was almost nonexistent. Yep solid mounts, you get used to it though.

Really solid bike with just a few odds and ends.

Can Xtrig PHDS be ran on the Yz 250 clamp? I'm not seeing that as an option.

I’ve got 15 hours on my 23… at about 10 hours the suspension breaks in and gets soft.. you will want to get it revalved or sprung for your weight..

I have fmf pipe/shorty combo vforce 3 reed block, 9 oz flywheel weight, for motor mods and It gives me a good broad power in the mid but it will sign off on top. But the flywheel weight keeps the motor from falling off coming into tight corners and helps slow down the power delivery coming out of corners.

i got some light speed carbon head stays and that took some vibration out, changed to protaper fusion bars unlocked and that helped too.  Going to probably do the apex head soon with tbe MX dome.

im 42 and 215 and it pulls me around just fine everywhere. It’s my 2nd yz250.

About 12 hrs on my 23, it’s the “X” model but really happy how it performs up here at 5,000’ and 20-80* weather so far!
mods:

Bulletproof Design radiator braces, disk guard

AXP skidplate

FMF gnarly/turbinecore 2.1 w/ E-Line pipe guard

IMS 3+ gallon tank

I have  a 2014 that i bought new.  I've been through many bikes but this one stays in my garage.  Anytime riding motocross becomes stale......i bring out the smoker.  It really is a do it all bike.

Mods?  Set the suspension up for your weight with a revalve or spring rate.  Add a tooth to the sprocket.  Apex head if you aren't running race gas
