Cotton jerseys-----nuff said
Hard to change goggle lenses-----I used to scoff at high priced goggles until I changed a lens on my Airbrakes. Worth every penny.
shitty suspension------nuff said
narrow footpegs-----my feet thank me
Hard starting 4-strokes.
Man...those early days... I swear if you even looked at the bike wrong it wasn't going to start
Unreliable bikes, used to wrench for 2 hours to ride for an hour.
I had the same experience with my Airbrakes. Holy crap, changing lenses used to suck so bad.
Steel handlebars on new bikes
Spaghetti stock chains
Handguards that mounted to the clutch perch and brake master cylinder
Seats that had an arch like an old horse back
Play dough clutch baskets and inner hubs

I kinda miss steel handlebars on bikes. If you were riding a CR with white handlebars we knew you weren't "serious." lol
I know some old-schoolers won't agree, but I am so glad to be done with carburetors. I love modern FI so damn much.
I don't miss when race tracks were only open for organized races and never had open practices.
What!?
How can you not like perch mount handguards!?
I actually can't believe they haven't made a comeback more with all the extra stuff on handlebars these days.
Especially with ethanol gas.
Vince Friese, at least for now
The snow shovel KX rear fender.
Aluminum frames.
(I had to change mine to what I Don’t miss)
2 strokes, saddleback, cone pipes, seeds and stems, Big Lenny.
I don't miss needing a 10mm wrench and 12mm just to remove one bolt. Or the more randomness to bolt or nut sizes on older bikes. Like 8mm bolt for side panel 12mm for seat bolt 10mm for silencer bolt.
Bikes without safety seats
Drum brakes
Plastic clutch n brake levers

Changing altitude mid ride on a 2 stroke. Fouling a plug only to realize, you don’t have a spare.
Rubber-band starts…ever have someone snag the band and it “came lookin for YOU!”…?
Throw away/non-rebuildable silencers
Drum Brakes, yes…even double leading shoe
1981 YZ125 frames that fell apart
Scott Storm-Trooper boots
surprised not mentioned yet but the guy that used to run this forum with the cop complex. guy b something or other.
mullets. individually applied numbers. drum brakes.
Man, there are definitely less parts on new bikes that I’m immediately getting rid of. The steel handlebars with no bar pad 😭
1970s era Honda CR125 pistons that ran 18 hours and then scattered into the crankcase and pipe. At least it was easy to pry the pieces out of the crank, since they appeared to be made of a silver clay material..
Pit Row
Flaking electrofusion on the ports of my '89 KX 125
Broken power valves (twice) on my '89 KX 125
Exploding clutch basket on my '89 KX 125
Replacing untold number of head gaskets on my '89 KX 125
Having to replace the impeller and coolant seal every second ride on my '89 KX 125
The garbage swing arm bearing seals on my '89 KX 125
TLDR: My '89 KX 125
Edit: shit...it was an '88, but not editing all that.
Honestly, my Kickstarters, and changing clutches on my kids 50 KTM like every other ride...
Obnoxiously loud 4 stroke pipes. It seemed like every Tom, Dick, and Harry had an aftermarket pipe that would wake the dead.
Was just about to say mid 2000’s pro sr 50’s
Steel frames and their vanishing paint.
Seat covers that could double as slip n slides.
Subframes that would bend in a tip over.
Having to use solvent to clean my air filters.
Pilot jets.
- Mixing gas
- Pre Decoster KTM bikes
- MIllsaps helmet neck roll
- Bulky Gloves
baggy pants
helmet skins
hololenses
plastic helmets
I believe it was for a good 3-4 years there in the early 00s where they’d just constantly show crowd reactions while the leaders were battling. For like a good 5-10 seconds at a time. It was awful.
