Reading Unphiltered on Racer X and Phil Nicoletti is asked about commentary. His answer is spot on in my opinion:

“Haha, even though I say what I want, when I want, I do have a filter. Just in a normal setting, I’m going to act how I want to act and say what I want to say. Unfortunately, some people don’t like it, but I can honestly say I don’t give a shit. If some people say it’s unprofessional or whatever, then so be it. But I bet they talk the same way in a group setting with their mates. Most are just hypocrites, really. I would actually love to give it a shot, I think there’s so much that gets overlooked. I’ve talked to the guys who are in the booth and whatnot. They have to stay in a certain window of criteria, which is a shame. Our sport has so much to offer in terms of data, chassis, engine, and training yet it never gets talked about. ‘They maintain max heart rate for 15 minutes, and it’s the most physically demanding sport.’ We hear them say it. Okay, well why? What’s the difference between Haiden Deegan and Nate Thrasher’s bikes? Or ClubMX vs Star bikes. What’s the difference?

I want to talk about this stuff. We are all about dumbing it down to a basic audience, but most don’t even know the difference between ClubMX and Star anyway. So why not try and make it elite. The “Science of Supercross” is just a janky way to show our sport. That’s my personal opinion. For instance, Honda has a new GET data system. Why can’t they show or have anyone explain if they can change the settings in a blink of an eye from one practice to another, or even during practice? Let’s talk about the difference between tire compounds, etc. People in NASCAR are mind blown over our sport and can’t even comprehend our chassis/suspension numbers. They are in awe when they see the data numbers from suspension. When I mean mind blown, I’m not bullshitting! These are high-end NASCAR engineers and they’re impressed. Let’s talk about it! Now I’m really going off. There is so much info out there and the dummying down needs to stop!”

I want to ask the PR or broadcast people why the Olympic level of fitness that the top racers  possess is never featured or even mentioned?

…MX/ SX  is the hardest sport on earth- like Nicolettl mentioned, why is this side of moto a secret kept from the casual fans who watch the broadcasts?

If anyone ever watches Tour De France or any bicycle racing on TV, rider fitness and strength is mentioned by the commentators on a regular basis.

…someone from Feld or MX Sports wish to chime in?

In the Outdoors yes, but I don’t recall much focus on the subject in SX, except a Baker Factory story in one of the documentary style shows about 5 years back?
SX & MX are different beasts on a fitness level, which is an interesting topic in itself.

I vote they just talk about the race that is happening. They all need to get a lesson from Paul Malin. And for the love of god get rid of RC. He can barely form a coherent thought

That was the most ridiculous thing I have seen yet in Supercross. I'm blown away that somebody came up with that idea, ran it by the higher ups, and they said sure let's give it a shot. I mean wtf, are they just trying to make it a circus?

Mitch talking about intake angles probably gave the nbc blue bloods a conniption as it is. They take a dim view of their customers. Theyre ivory tower types.

To highlight who was the leader.

Obviously anyone here would know who was leading, but I can see how it would make it easier for casual fans or folks further back and higher up in the stadium to easily identify who was leading.

That said, personally I don't like Supercross looking like Tron.

semifreeguy:   You do realize it's called Feld Entertainment?

Ever wonder why they dumb-down the whoops?  Tighten up the points chase, sell more tickets.  Feld doesn't want a Jeremy McGrath type season where one guy wins every race.

Feld Entertainment

Put DV and Phil in the booth and call it a day.

This is exactly what the broadcast  and sport needs.

Stop with the storylines. Or better yet in the Thursday production meeting when they go over the story’s to be covered ask who is the demographic those story’s are pertaining to.

Then ask what stories are we covering the hardcore fans want to see.

Maybe try appealing to new, current and old fans every race.

Of course, maybe they don’t have time for all of it. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄✌️✌️

Feld doesn't consider it a sport, even Carmichael and other ex-racers involved in the broadcast call it "the show" now. That there are technical aspects to the bikes, and the riders are athletes is not important to Feld or the promoters. That is why it is promoted by showing wrecks. Look at even how many RacerX covers show riders T-boning one another, it's just a show to them too, if it bleeds it leads. Plenty of other sports out there, Feld is selling spectacle.

It’s a cool idea that they should be doing during  race day live, not the actual broadcast.

Race day live is supposed to be the hardcore fans, but honestly, it sucks 80% of the time. It would make it a lot better if the implemented that stuff there, instead of listening to them banter about nonsense and industry cool guys.

When motocross raced two 45 Min + 2 lap motos, it was much more physically demanding sport. Today's riders, while technically faster, would be hard pressed to push to that distance. Yes, there is still a demand for conditioning, but that extra 15 minutes was where past champions won their crowns.

Back in the day Monster Jam had separate teams. Now from what I understand, FELD owns the trucks and all use the same equipment; FELD has the parts in their trucks. Is Supercross going to eventually be like that? Maybe with the introduction of electric bikes? All the bikes are technically the same, just their Star, Club MX, Redbull plastics are different?

Supercross is under the "Productions" tab, right next to Disney on Ice Dizzy

If you watch any mxgp weekend it really makes it hard to watch supercross as they have it dialed in!! Paul malan doesn’t miss any action and if camera guys aren’t on the battle he tells them to switch immediately!! No comparison period!! Hard to believe that Weegie told me on pulp show that they are doing great job!!

I saw something on RacerX that they also intend to use the newer/more numerous transponders (part of the position lights) for race  data acquisition.  This will allow them to provide "sectional" stats during the race.  ie: what line is faster, who's going thru the whoops faster etc etc.    As if we don't already know who is.

Just what we need...more interruptions/screen shots taking away from the racing.    They'll probably assign it to Screetch to blather off details.     Save this stuff for after the race.

What other sport and especially what other motorsport dumbs down their content trying to cater to newbs or casual fan? None that I know of. If a sport is compelling enough it will stand on its own and the newbs/casuals will educate themselves and appreciate it all that much more for what it is. I understand having a fluff piece or two also but the race broadcast should focus on the real details of the sport and be intriguing for the hard core fan imho.

I 100% agree with Phil. Our sport has the potential to really bring in some money and crowds. Instead we are stymied by whomever calls the shots with Bono.  I wish they would show that our sport isn’t a red neck sport. Instead we look like idiots who explain things like kindergarten children. How boring is that? I really wish DC would explain why he feels things are going well with TV production
