Also those couple of 03/04 throwback gear sets Thor released were good. I bought a set but haven't had the chance to ride in it yet, although out of all the gear sets I've tried on it's been the comfiest.

Those "way-to-far-out-there designs of about a decade or so ago" are by far my favourite era of mx gear. I honestly love them so much and wish those designs would come back into style. I know this is a very unpopular opinion here but they're just so good. I mean I'm riding motocross, not attending a business meeting. Throw some zany colours and choatic designs on the gear. And bring back No Fear too.

Anyway the closest thing to those designs at the moment I would say is this Leatt gear, I would probably buy it if they didn't have this stupid idea of having to purchase it as a set rather than jersey and pants seperately, which means I'd have to buy 2 sets since I'm a different size in pants and jersey. L502303290-ALT1-HOST.png?VersionId=yznsL6t2NsJEv

Funny, I absolutely hated the confetti vomit years of moto gear. 2009-2012 or so were just awful IMO. But, different strokes as they say.

Seems like I'm the only one who likes those designs. Don't think a single person I've seen a single person say they liked them, nevermind love them haha. That kind of mx gear is my favourite, second would be the Fox gear RC wore roughly from 05 to retirement, nearly all gear sets that don't fit one of those descriptions are pretty mediocre to me.

Though I do appreciate the way-to-far-out-there designs of about a decade or so ago seem to have passed...I don't miss those at all.

Try TLD’s Scout off-road pants. I originally got them for The Rip and then wore them in the Eastern Sierras & down into the Dez…then on my ADV…

They’re a looser fit and have zippered front and back vents that open-close and…pockets!

I’ve ridden in 110 degree dez heat and then up to 10,000’ cold snow all in the same day. That’s where these pants really shine (from Hawthorne Nevada to above Virginia Lakes California/July 2021).

I've consistently been happy with Klim gear...the look, the fit, and the durability. Plus?  Pockets!  I love pockets.

I love seeing the major manufacturers following suit with good quality off road specific gear (TLD being one).  Offroad is just hard on gear, and moto specific materials and construction just gets destroyed...

That's awesome. I'm glad you like them...variety makes the world interesting.

These are more my style:

Klim Mohave Jersey

Mohave pants

I think there are a ton of options for almost any taste. FXR has wild, bright colors and then some clean designs. Fly is generally pretty clean and not too wild. But they have athletic fit in the Lite line and also a 'baggier' feel in the EVO. TLD usually has some wild options. I've been wearing the AStars Fluid stuff for a review and it's just black and white. Not super tight. I actually prefer the athletic fit though. I do like the idea of some retro looks. Helmets are my biggest issue. Some are very uncomfortable and only the the two I prefer have a high price point.

I dont understand the vitards obsession with mx clothing. It is the least important riding equipment.

In my opinion paying so much attention on what are other dudes are wearing is kind of gay.

What's the business logic in these companies putting new gear on the riders every week, that customers can't even buy?

Very few of the companies do that. I don't think AStars is too concerned with mx gear sales to be honest. FXR, Fly, etc usually has all their gear available

Oh shut up. We are in the golden age of gear performance and the designs are great. Alpinestars makes basic and edgier designs. Sextons gear looks like Italian terrazzo stones to me. I own a set. The front and back are mesh and vent insanely well, and the arms are compression. It feels great on.2BC8A569-FA77-43DD-BD58-AD0CBAC95565.jpeg?VersionId=BMh Km1UUmrkl2UqNnoSaQ45

How durable is the new Astars Supertech? I saw they said it won't snag which hopefully means tears won't run like last years back panel material.

I havent tried the Supertech, but I have a few sets of Techstar and I really like it.

2022 techstar rips super easy on the ventilated sort of mesh part. This is on the inside of the sleeves and side of torso and wraps to the back a little. The back of a 2022 Supertech looks like the same stuff. The 2022 Supertech sleeves are tougher than the techstar from experience.  The 2023 Supertech material looks completely different.

Sexton raced in his polka dot pajamas at San Diego and the new Moose stuff in the MXA Mid Week report has neon colors for a throw back to the 90s.  Ugggh!  Give me some Hallman GP goatskin leathers, Jofa shoulder pads and you can have most of the gear today.

Who do you think has the best looking gear at the moment?

Ok, I get it, you’re old-school.  I am too….but, bring back goatskin leathers?Dry

With Alpinestars it seems like most of their custom gear for the pros is the entry level colorway on the top level materials/patterns. Most likely this is done to drive higher volume to the entry level gearsets, where the profit margins are higher than the top end gear. The fans are happy because they can look like Jett and Chase and Eli at their local track and not break the bank, and the racers have a better chance at buying the athletic-fit gear they need before it sells out.

Most riders aren’t going to shell out $60+ for a jersey when there is a $35 one next to it.

I have to disagree. This is a sport where people regularly spend hundreds of dollars for different colored parts, bolts, and wheels. People will buy the gear their favorite riders wear.

It is pretty obvious what sells by what is stocked at your local shop. If $200 pants sold a lot they would stock them instead of 4 different colors of the $100-120 pants.

Apparently only Fox sells.  That's all anybody stocks.

Sorry I just cannot buy Fasthouse!

Not because of the way it looks.

It's because I'm way too slow to be running around in gear called Fasthouse.  True Story!

Need a combination of the kitty cat gear from Thor again and baggies to get caught on the kicker of a SUSUKI so you fall over sitting still.

No Fear and late 90s green Shift gear was the coolest.

I think some of the reasons they put out designs that are not for sale would be to see what people think of a colorway they are considering making, To get people talking about the brand and maybe go and check out their gear and see something they do make, that they had not seen yet and then buy it. Testing out materials .  Make the rider feel special. etc.

And of course when they run the entry colors on high end fit, to help drive the sales on the lower end stuff. I'm sure some other reasons. but those are some that I could think of.

These are a few designs that i did for CanvasMX when designing still.

I had a lot of free reign when designing, but I know a lot, if not all have to confine to the "corporate look" now.
