The OP didn't say Jett will, just that he's the only one that could.

I think even saying could is a stretch. 3 perfect seasons, 103 MX wins, and 73 SX wins is flat out unattainable these days IMO. I 100% agree with the guy I was quoting on Jett, just seemed like he didn't read the first post.

Could he end up an all time great? Absolutely. Passing up MC and RCs numbers? Not a chance in hell. He still has to race Sexton for most of his career, and the "old guard" top guys still have a couple years of winning potential left.

I agree. It's a hot take on OP's part.

Not to mention needing 11 MX titles and 8 SX titles on top of all those wins.

The most important and potentially confusing stat is if Jett can go on to break the Vital post and reply records. I say confusing because it will probably be J-Law vs J-Law duking it out for the title!

17 Supercross races and they couldn't take 1 of those away instead?

Well, he would have had a chance had he not stayed in the kiddie pool again this year

Well, except for that pesky little thing called a contract, you're exactly right.

Jett does indeed have "it".  As far as a 250 goes, as far a his popularity goes, as far as his personality goes, yes,  he has it nailed.  Will there be a steep learning curve in the big class?  Of course.  History has shown that over and over again.....it's a given.  But can he put his name in the books as one of the all time greats?  Who knows.....  Several factors over the next decade will help decide this debate.  He's young, wealthy, fit, fast, charming on a live mic, and damn talented.  It's all up to him.  In last nights field of the 450's, he could have been within the top 5 without question, even on his 250.  He is THAT good.  His racecraft is superb in how he handles a moto, and he demonstrates  that over, and over again.......that is why he has multiple championships at such a young age already.  Haters will hate, fans will cheer, he doesn't seem fazed by either.  I say everybody just shut up, and enjoy watching the ride.  Love, or hate, he's just an insane talent.......  In this era, he is exceptional at a young age already.  Let's just enjoy the show.

Can we wait until after his 2nd season on a 450 for this talk?

Reed had 18 SX wins after his first 2 seasons and he still only got to like 60% of what Mc had. Bubba had 24 in his first 2.5 seasons on a big bike (2005 he rode 6 rounds since got injured early on). If Jett is anywhere near those numbers then lets talk.

He has as good a chance as anyone to beat the records in the next 12 years or so. It's not fantasy.

So I think we've seen enough evidence and race after race where he puts it on cruise control and just has this wacky ability to maintain a gap.

One thing I don't understand is that probably most of the time, the gap he maintains isn't enough to keep first place if he tips over...I mean, it looks obvious in that when he gets that gap, he just cannot be reeled in.  It must be extremely frustrating to race him, but why not edge out to an 8 second gap rather than a 4 - 6?

Whatever you have to tell yourself. People put too much emphasis on the 250 class. Jett’s great, but many, many guys have been the next hero in Jett’s shoes and they didn’t deliver on the big bike. Jett doesn’t compare at this point in his career to guys like RC, James, RV, Reed, etc. He’s not touching MC or RC’s records. That’s crazy talk.

I haven't heard Villopoto's take on Jett, but Carmichael, James and Reed, RJ, and many other knowledgeable champions, have all said watch this space for the next 10 years or so. I've not heard any of them say the same about other 250 champions.

The point has to be admitted that he is still on a 250 but he showed his 450 chops at MXON convincingly.

All the top 450 rider, except Sexton are in there late 20s, so that's one thing going for  him. Who else on a 250 is going to stop him from winning? In the next 2-3 years it will be him Sexton, Hunter & maybe AC. But not a chance he catches MC or RC.

Explain to us the reasoning and logic why you think he cannot.

It is mathematically very possible.

Afterbar loves to hate on jett.

1st you say don't put emphasis on the 250 class.

Then you say ohhh he doesn't compare at this point in his career?

So what is it? 250s don't matter or they do?

At 19 years and 5months old jett has 3 titles and however many race wins.

At that same age only stewart is more successful.

If jett wins this sx series. He will be the second youngest rider to 4 titles.

Before jett came along most fans would say. Coz of the facilities and the way the riders train

No1 can do what stew done.

No1 can do what Carmichael done.

Jetts almost doing it and some ppl just wanna hate on it.

Maybe Jett went pro 2 young. Maybe he should have waited till he was 17 like rc and RV.

Ignore his rookie season, reassess his stats and see how he compares.

He is still going 450 full-time at a younger age then rc and RV. And like 6 months older then stew.

I'm not trying to say Jett is better or anything like that. But he is the only rider with comparable stats.and in all sports every1 tries to compare the modern star to past champions.

We might, but highly likely from the hints that Eli will be riding internationally; WSX.

Only James was more successful?

RV and RC won all three of their first 250 MX titles. RC won every race his second SX season then moved up. Go back and compare wins and you will see that Jett was not as successful as those mentioned. I don’t love to hate on Jett. He’s a phenomenal rider and has a great career ahead of him, but I can’t stand his fans that disregard facts to overhype him. Seeing people say he will break MC’s and RC’s records is laughable. Unlike you, I’m not willing to add a bunch of caveats for Jett to fit a narrative. I’m going off results. Not the fact that Jett started a few months earlier.

See, you are wrong though, via a simple logical fail. His record to date doesn't have any bearing on his future performance and no facts are being ignored.

It is entirely possible for Jett to break those win records within the span of a realistic career. You cannot deny the simple mathematics.

Jett has the timing right. The best rider of the generation is retiring, and the top 5 guys from the last decade are all on the wrong side of 30.

and I really don’t see anyone coming up behind him that is going to have anything for him.

Actually, everything I posted is factual and not just opinion, like yourself. Since you want to pretend like RC’s first year doesn’t count in a comparison, I removed it to fit your narrative. In RC’s first year racing SX, he won 4 races compared to Jett’s 3 his second year. Jett did not win any his rookie year. In RC’s second year (his last in 125 SX), he won 9 races. Compare that to Jett’s third year in 250 SX at 4 wins. In RC’s 1st and 2nd years outdoors, he won 15 races. In Jett’s 2nd and 3rd seasons (where he was older than RC during his first and second seasons), Jett won 13 races. Spin it any way you want. RC was still better. Take away your biased caveats and in their first 3 seasons outdoors, RC won 24 MX races compared to Jett’s 14. In RC’s two and only 125 SX seasons, he won 13 races compared to Jett’s 3 in his first two years or 7 in his first 3 years. No hate. Just facts.

Hi Silver Spurs, you are correct that mathematically Jett could break RC's and MC's records.  But by that same logic so could Brandon Ray, and hundreds of others.  It helps narrow things down quite a bit if you include historical analysis to predict future performance.

I'm saying it is entirely possible for Jett to break those RC and Mc. records. He has the time available.

Jett will have four titles as a teenager. He's done it pretty easily too. It's the MXON performance that was really impressive though, beating all the heavies under that kind of pressure. If he stays healthy anything could happen. He gets holeshots and rides smart which ups the odds. But is there better competition than RC or MC had though?

Hi Mate.

My logic is the reasoned variety, and counts in his very strong credibility to date, not just the mathematical probability.

It is supported by the opinions of at least one of the record holders, RC, that Lawrence has more bike skill than himself and likely a long career.

As GrapeApe already said, anybody could break those records using your logic. Possible? Of course. Probable? Highly unlikely.

Same thing every year. Comparing the winning 250 riders times to the 450 riders times. It's meaningless.  Ferrandis had nights on his 250 with better times then the winning 450 rider. How's that working out for him now? Please stop

Same thing every year. Comparing the winning 250 riders times to the 450 riders times. It's meaningless.  Ferrandis had nights on his 250 with better times then the winning 450 rider. How's that working out for him now? Please stop

I’m fully aware that it’s meaningless. Just pointing out to dadofagun who said Jett would have been “top 5 without question” that Jett didn’t have a top 5 lap time on a smoother track. People don’t give enough credit to the 450 riders.
