My idol...Kent Howerton on that Husky! And I dressed just like him. Blue and gold Hallmans, yellow Hallman jersey with blue Husky logo. Blue boots, w/ yellow socks folded over the top of the boots. Hallman red/whi/blue gloves.
Also, had to cut the Scott face guard to fit perfectly around the mouthguard now...
How kewl! He and Gary Semics dressed too cool.(Wished I was half as fast)

How about a custom made set of "Trim" leathers with one leg bigger than the other to accomodate the Lennox Hill knee brace underneath?

Remember how slippery the roads and pits would get when it rained at Saddleback?

I once saw a big Winnebago----probably a 30-footer----with the wheels locked up, sliding down the road between the high-school track and the short-track oval! The poor driver looked scared to death, but he did a fine job of keeping that big ol' RV centered on the road.

Iron Jaw, Electro Helmet, Super Seer goggles, Hi-Point boots and Red Dot tires. Sweet Yamalube patch mom sewed on the jersey. Circa 1980...Millville Amatuer National 100cc class. YZ 125 chassis with a 100 cc cylinder.

No fancy track barriers or tuff blocks. Just some old snow fence. Those were the days.

Hey Steve,

Yes that is me but I finished 8th that year. Scott Hinkle ended up winning the class if I recall. Won the class in '82. As for the Bigelow's...Kreg was the only brother at this race and won the 125 title. Was back in the day when they only had 4 classes at the Amatuer Nationals. 100, 125A, 250A and Open and the race was held in October.

Loading the CZ, Husky and Bultaco into the back of my Grand-dad's econline van with a 55 gal drum of fuel and heading to Indian Dunes for the long weekend with my friends, all 6 of us crammed in the van, some of us sitting on the bikes, crouched over for the drive from Reseda. LOL

Hey, that's the Team Dynamic watercooled 100cc that Steve Ellis (now at Honda) made back in 1981? Team Dynamic is re-connecting with old racers these days.

Nice call on the old school stuff: Check out the Harry's Cyyle Sticker and my old CMC/CRC cards from 1979. Can't find the NMA Card? How about the Bill Walters leathers I wore with Norestar Boots. Electro Helmet and Shoulders pads. Luft Racing Shock and Klotz Octane Bosster! Happy Juice for the YZ 80

Actually Ellis made that YZ100 kit for the 81 YZ's and this is the 80 amateur nats and the air cooled 100's.

How about cantilevered fox shocks on dad's Maico 400. Or A J Whiting's Snake pipe on his YZ80. Guys today are spoiled. I go to the track and they complain about the track not being prepped to perfection. In '75 prep meant the water truck made a round to keep the dust down and hopefully it didnt get stuck in the sand and have to dump its whole load making a new obstacle, "the pond corner".
