Was both sorry and shocked to hear about the passing of old school Michigan pro rider Todd Nesler as reported on Racer X today by his brother Greg in the Racerhead report. Todd was a great guy, always willing to help out with anything. Truly a unique person who will surely be missed. Godspeed Todd. Don't know if you check...

BB67, These are from RedBud. Looks like you are in the one start pic. Also included the results. Just a guess but did you end up 13th? Can't seem to find anything from Loretta's 82. Cheers

Yes, Scott Hinkle took the win on a Suzuki in a sea of YZ 125's with 100cc cylinders. His brother Mark won the Open class I think. The Hinkle boys were good. Amazing to me they didn't move on to be successful pro riders. Don't think Scott is in this picture. Must have been buried in the pack.

100cc. Back when they only had four classes at amateur nationals. 100's, 125A, 250A, and Open. Wonder how the promoter made any $$$ and what you would do with all the extra time left in the day. LOL. I think the moto's were pretty long though 30 mins I recall.

Millville Am National 1980 #32 RedBud Am National 1981 Loretta's 1982 Silverdome 1983 Golden State Race 1985 Redbud 500 National 135 lbs dripping wet on a 500...I survived. Silverdome 1987
I rode some 500 Nationals in '86 and '87. The AMA used to split the season with half the season on 250's and the other half on 500's. I loved riding 500's but I never got slammed on one either. You could jump anything on them with little or no run at all. So much HP. Pretty lucky I guess...
Yes Tom, those certainly were good times and I do of course remember almost every independent bike shop having a team of some sort. Twin K, Champion, K & W, Foltz Cycle, Flushing Yamaha, Action, Charlotte Yamaha, American Competition, Holder's Suzuki and many others were all out in full force. The business concept seemed to make sense. Get the best...
I started riding for them in 1978-79. You had to wear one of the variety of color jersey's and were considered "support team" I think. Sweet Electro helmet LOL. 1980 Millville amateur nationals. When you earned enough points or cred you got to wear the red/blk/white jersey. Still rocking the Electro but tricked it out with an Iron...

Nice work. Would love to do the same to an '87 KX 250 like the one pictured in my avatar. Last year I raced seriously. Keep the pics coming.

Loretta's 1982 Champ. Best bike I ever had. Good memories from this thread. Handled awesome, super reliable and easy to work on. Wish I would have kept this bike. Hoping to find one someday to restore.

It looks like that #7 guy is on his arches and no finger on the clutch. The #5 guy is on balls of feet and has a finger on the clutch............ Sorry I couldn't resist. Seriously though, that photographer is awfully close to the action.

For all the oldschool Red Bud fans gearing up for the National next weekend...Anybody remember this double from the mid 80's? A few of the 250's and 500's got over this jump throughout the day. Lechien jumped it ALL day on the Works Honda 125 and made it look easy. That bike must have made serious horsepower. 1985.. Last...
