For all the oldschool Red Bud fans gearing up for the National next weekend...Anybody remember this double from the mid 80's? A few of the 250's and 500's got over this jump throughout the day. Lechien jumped it ALL day on the Works Honda 125 and made it look easy. That bike must have made serious horsepower. 1985.. Last year for full-on works bikes.
The picture does not do the jump justice. Use some of the fans in the background to judge how far it actually was. Nearly 25 years ago and that pic is still super cool. Lechien was one badass rider in his day.
Remember how cool the infield used to be compared to now. Lots more jumps and some tricky ones.
wish i was around for the good ole days.
The Shop
the open face helmets met a worthy demise though..........
Way cooler...
Parking lot jump. Right?
Don't know if it was called "parking lot jump"? Back in the day there was a left turn after where Larocco's Leap currenty is back down into the valley and a right hand bowl turn that had a pretty long run up to this jump. I'm the guy in the bottom picture. 38 other 125cc guys and myself chose to handle it this way. Even with my super bad DMC motor mods it was not ever considered an option. LOL
