Nice work. Would love to do the same to an '87 KX 250 like the one pictured in my avatar. Last year I raced seriously. Keep the pics coming.

Sweet looking bike! I loved the 1985 - 1989 Kawis.

By the way, where did you get the OEM decals from? I'm looking for some myself for an old Kawi semi-restoration project.

Very nice! What kind of paint products did you use for the frame and engine components?

MXM.....I love it!!! That is one of my favorite KX125's ever! I am frickin' jealous! I won an Indiana State Championship race on that bike back in 1987, and for some reason, that bike and I got along great. Like everyone else back in the day...I sold the bike at the end of the season to upgrade to a new 1988....and ended up regretting it. I didn't get along so good with that 1988, and ended up going to Honda from 1989 and up. Please keep posting the progress of this baby!!

These pics from 1987 bring back good memories!

Keep it up! It looks great so far! I am in the middle of doing a race resto on my 1987 KX 250, but am sort of at a stand still at the moment. I painted my frame in a more grayish color but it looks no where near as nice as yours. I also have an old PSI pipe on mine, but it's been beat to hell, haha. By the way, what parts did you find in Europe? I am over here and can't find that much. Having to get all my stuff off eBay from the states and ship it here. I look forward to seeing the final pics!

Glad you enjoyed the pics. I have to laugh now too at that rear break guard....I had a sponsorship from Maier plastics back then, and to show appreciation, I wanted to advertise all their stuff available for my KX. On a positive note, it was functional and made my bike stand out over everyone else's! Oh how great the 80's were....all of that innovation! Love the old school JT gear....will look great hanging up next to your bike!

Yeah that's been my problem as well, but I am using some aftermarket parts to finish it up, and I do intend on racing her in some vintage stuff. I have had to make some mods to my frame and subframe (fix broken tabs and nut plates). Like brake lines, my old ones look rough but they are ok, then again, there is a company here in Germany that can make custom brake lines as well as radiator hoses like you can get for newer bikes in the states.

Thanks, MXM. I'm so pumped to follow your progress. I love this machine and all of the mid-80's Kawis. What a great time in Kawaaki's motocross history.

Your work is outstanding MXM, I'm loving this thread. My last year racing was in 86 aboard an 86 KX125, after a couple years on YZs. The '80s sure were a good time.

I think youretakingmthe comments the wrong way. The bike is sweet, you did an awesome job. Its just you added those couple aftermarket parts that stand out. Who cares if the stock sprockets suck? We all know they suck, but we like to see stock bike. Get it? You even said you arent riding the bike, so even more reason to use the junky oem stuff. It will be a better build that way. I wissh my 94 was as close, I wouldnt put an aftermarket part on it.

Still sweet, and we know the rarity of the 87's.....we ARE Kawasaki fans afterall.

Nice job! I always liked the single radiator KX125's. They were unique and trick at the time.

Awesome. It's a real treat to see a 'brand new' bike from a special time. The KXs of that generation were wicked bikes, they still look trick today, only it's rare to see one in great shape. That's why this one is so damned cool, I'm a 19 year old kid again walking into the dealer when they just arrived....
