I remember one year in particular at a Silverdome doubleheader when RJ and Bailey were Honda teammates. They were a such a contrast in styles, Johnson super aggressive and brash while David was ultra smooth and quietly confident. They had a new double double section right after the loop into the stands and we sat in the first row of the stands with it right in front of us. I remember looking at the spacing of the jumps and the proximity to where they dropped into the stands and thought to myself if someone had big enough kahonas they could triple single that section. Well RJ must have thought the same thing because a couple laps into practice he drops back down into the stadium and pins it over the triple and the crowd went berserk! ( the younger guys on here have to realize that nobody was tripling jumps back then) RJ was riding like a man possessed (like always...lol). Bailey would come down out of the stands and calmly double double while staying nice and low and causing himself no drama. We all thought that RJ was going to clean up because he looked like he was going warp speed and the triple jump was so impressive. Long story short they battled big time and Bailey won the race in part because of his smooth method of going through the section. RJ was having to set up for it and then he wasn't landing it all that great but damn it was impressive! And if my memory serves me Ricky didn't do the triple in the Sunday race and won. Also Guy Cooper was only other guy doing it that night and he was doing huge crossups and entertaining us.

Lance Norick was racing at the time and his dad was the Mayor of OKC. I'm sure that had something to do with it.
I thought that name sounded familiar...Lance Norick. know the name from Nascar in the 90s.

wikipedia: says he races r/c cars professionally, whatever that means.

That was RFK stadium in DC. JFK was the Kennedy that got shot.
Oh yeah...RFK got shot too.

It was 83. I remember because I was set to go and ended up in the hospital that night getting ankle surgery. No problem, I thought- "they'll be back next year!"
Still waiting almost 30 years later.

Yep, he did the truck thing after the bike thing. I think he had a couple of decent years.

We use to drive to phoenix to watch sx when we lived in Vail. CO. I moved to florida thinking I would be able to enjoy multiple supercross races only to watch my first one at the citrus bowl. What a freaking dump. I plan on being in Daytona, but I understand why there arent more races in orlando, crackville citrus bowl.

Both Charlotte venues; Memorial Stadium and the speedway. Wish they would come back to CMS but I'll settle for an outdoor nat within a couple hours drive. The only downside to that would be not getting to watch K Dub ride.Sad

Pontiac!! The best year is when they had two rounds at the Silverdome, we could go to Tikki Bob's twice!

Some classics - Rich Stadium in Buffalo, NY...The Medowlands SX in NJ, and The Pontiac race at the Pontiac Silverdome...even rode amateur day there!
I was at the Rich Stadium race also. One of the Team Honda riders (I think O'Mara) called it one of the worst tracks he raced on. It was broadcast through the PA system. With the small crowd and that comment, I was pretty sure that was going to be the first and last race there. Took a lot of pictures that day. Things sure have changed. Factory teams were working out of box vans.
