are the 450s the best we can get? can an open 2 stroke be faster on a track? Or maybe a 4 stroke fe a little smaller or a little bigger can do better lap times? What about fatigue on a 30 min plus race. I mean on extreme enduro 2t 300s rocks but its a different sport. Still im asking cause sometimes rules are made for bringing the new tech on a competitive lever as fast as possible. So 450s outclasses 2t 250s almost instantly. But now 20 years later they still are the ideal bike for racing and results or something different can be faster without wore out the riders?

Luckily technology has prolonged the 450s life by making it easier to ride, but sooner or later it’ll be gone, we’ll all move on and they’ll be relegated to nostalgia and dirt track/ desert riding etc like the 500 before it.
However to date, nothing beats a 250-300 2t in the fun factor.
Heck, I use my CRE500 for single track and what some would call 'extreme' riding. Not for much, well, virtually any, fast work nowadays.
As a new ICE Bike, I'd love to have a modern, 350 - 400cc 2 stroke.
But, they don't exist.
I'd say an E Bike that suits my needs - as in, a real Enduro type bike, not a Foo Foo bike, from a Major Manufacturer ( I've 3 friends awaiting Stark Vargs - and yes, they are 'sort of' happy to wait on them, so I'll get to ride those) will be available before my preferred, and almost certainly forever non existent ICE bike. So, I'll end up on one, while keeping my ICE bikes 'til I cark it.
My favorite was always 125's... Just appreciated the feel of throwing it around and keeping the grip twisted.
Its all you really need.....

450’s are too "heavy" for me…250’s (four strokes) don’t have enough top speed, and I’m always looking for another gear on them (I’m a desert rat)…but a 300/350 four stroke would be ideal I think…I just don’t want to pay $13k for one from a European manufacturer, so I stick with 450’s.
There was a run of projects with people dropping 200 engines into the first generation 125/150 sx linkage frames 11-on because the the cases are the same, which gave you a pretty modern 200 MX bike. Folks have worked with the later linkage frames by modding the new 125/150 cases. And you used to see 200 engines dropped into the first generation Suzuki 250f frames.
I built a moto based 2008 XC/SX hybrid, the only non 200SX part was the power valve governor (or the 200 specific springs), which is different in the 200 SX to allow it spin up faster. Such a fun bike, but my body was over riding. Still have a stock 200SX pipe if anyone interested.
