I got heat stroke about a month ago. Was riding a lot for previous weeks, and then spent a Sunday in the back 40 clearing brush on a warm, humid day. Felt fine all day, drank good fluids. That eve sitting on the porch having a cold beer and next thing I knew I was on the ground, covered in sweat like I'd been hosed down and nauseous as hell. 911 call, a ride to the ER, and 3 bags of fluid later I went home. It was not fun. I'm old (59) but very fit and it kicked my ass for a couple days. I know I wasn't hydrating enough on Saturday and it caught up to me. Never again.

I hear ya. I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. Drank plenty of water, but was reminded electrolytes are real. After getting two IV bags, the ER tech said drinking all that plain water actually made matters worse, lowering my mineral levels in my blood.

Needless to say, I’ve tried many many different electrolyte mixes. Pedialyte SPORT is the best I’ve found. It’s not just salt & sugar. Most mixes are high on salt & that’s it, including Ryno’s mix. Pedialyte SPORT actually has over 10% of your daily value In each calcium, magnesium, sodium, & potassium. Also, drink lemon water. Eat cucumbers. Celery. Etc.
Your Pedialyte SPORT has sugar....no bueno. Try the stuff I linked on the previous page. Stevia is okay, sugar is no bueno.

We've been lucky with a cooler National summer than years past but with 89 this weekend for Ironman and triple digits for Pala, buckle up buttercup.
Here’s an idea push the start date back a month. Give these guys some time off after soupy. Have 2-3 races in the south east during the fall. You know when it’s cool, never rains and everyone isn’t melting. Including the fans.

Its really not all that hot if that's what the temps end up being. I don't think its really "hot" until its over 110F. And for all those humidity whiners, Dew point in Phoenix/Chandler right now is 65. Dew point in Atlanta is 70. Point being, it's not a dry heat in AZ during the summer monsoons. We ride every weekend, sometimes twice a weekend throughout the summer. You get used to the heat. 101 for a high temp isn't a big deal IMHO, regardless of humidity. We've been hitting 102-105F with 65-68 Deg dew points lately. Hell, I like the moisture.

I don't see the temps being a major factor for the race. Ironman was going to favor Eli and Pala was going to favor Chase regardless of the weather.

These last 2 races are going to be crazy good.

much better, and a better price. Thank me later Wink

also, your post about the carbs (fructose) being 'no bueno' is kind of a misnomer. Carbs are crucial in fluid delivery throughout the body. This is why ketogenic dieters struggle with hydration. On training and riding days I will consume over a gram of salt and 200 carbs before running and cycling or before I finish my first moto. It's the sugar in these drinks that puts the life back in you; the rapid uptake of energy and mobilization of fluids. If you have health concerns then none of the above applies to you. Same with being slightly older. I'm not there yet, so i plead the fifth.

Thanks Bomber, I'll give this a try. I ran into the heat stroke issue a couple years ago myself, raced four hard motos in late Texas summer, came off the track and literally flopped down in a chair after putting the bike on a stand. My friend's wife looks at me and asks if I'm OK, but I was a bit loopy (nothing too unusual for me after a hard day of racing a couple classes). But that day I couldn't get out of the chair for like an hour. Tried walking to the tower to check overall results, had to stop and go back before I fell over. Have never been the same since in the heat, even working around the farm. So I learned "the hard way" that I'm 60, not 16 anymore. I used to race at Indian Dunes in the blazing heat and never felt like that day in Texas.

Mix it up in a hydro flask with some ice cubes and it's like you're a kid drinking Kool-Aid again. It's super tasty and doing your body favors at the same time. It looks like someone else linked a less expensive version above but I try to avoid sugar at all costs.

For those of you who like sugar, buy some stevia packets and carry them around with you. I'll order tequila on the rocks and I put a little packet of stevia in it when I want something sweet.

I ordered some, going to give them a try this weekend. Riding both Sat and Sunday, so I need to hydrate plenty - starting tomorrow. I usually drink a lot of water and unsweet tea, but ride days I have to pound the fluids.

The riders will be able to handle the heat, especially the guys who train in insane humidity.

The local fans won’t have a problem either, they live with high temps every day.

Can we please stop using terms like "Soupy" "Racecraft" and "Color way?" Shit is worse than JT$ using "nuance" 15 times everytime he's on Pulp. Start the down votes, but that shit is lame. Soupy? Really.....

If this forecast holds we are in for a bit of a scorcher with triple digit temps. This is a bummer for spectators. As for the track, it could really mix things up with a super dry track or an over watered layer on a dry base. I was planning on going but I'll admit I probably sit on the beach and watch on my iPad if this holds:

Heat and wind, not a good combination for prepping a hard pack track.
Sounds like blue groove and no scoop tyre for Tomac.

I still don't understand. Sugar (sucrose) is extraced from a natural plant. It's a natural product largely if it is additive free. Fructose from fruits is obviously natural too. Depending on your situation, it may be better to drink your energy rather than eat it for the purposes of digestion. Also, the product I linked contained no added sugar. It has 0 carbs.

Food is a tool. The right tool for the job is important, and the wrong tool is not a "bad" tool, it's just bad for the job.

The pandering in here... oh my gosh.

Motocross is one of the most brutal sports alive. Keep it that way. It's what makes us. If you're hot, there's a movie theater and shopping mall open with cool air conditioning. They might even have the triple width seats at the theatre for all of the new American Ham Planet™ Physiques. The races are supposed to be hard.

Your Pedialyte SPORT has sugar....no bueno. Try the stuff I linked on the previous page. Stevia is okay, sugar is no bueno.
My brother in Christ, sugar is a great carbohydrate to drink during heavy exercise. We aren’t anorexic people stunting for Instagram likes. For example, Skratch labs hydration is: Cane Sugar, Dextrose, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Magnesium Lactate, Calcium Citrate, Potassium Citrate, Lemon Oil, Lime Oil, Lemon Juice, Lime Juice, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C).

The whole no sugar thing is for sedentary people who are overweight.
